Beautifal day; easy walk to the lower falls. Will bring visitors here, for sure.

This is one of my favorite swimming spots in the summer.

Gorgeous falls. We've hiked all over the mountain states and this beats all those falls. A Virginia treasure.
be prepared for lots of stairs. We were hiking with our dog. He's fast, big and experienced but the steep wood steps were covered with wet leaves and slippery. we worried he might slip. We didn't get very far.
great park and great hike

This was my first visit to Catawba Falls. I tend to stick to less traveled trails but I had a friend with that had been to the upper falls and he assured me it would be less populated. Being a Monday morning there were already not as many people there.

I would say that it is a walk to the lower falls and a scramble to the upper. I remembered to turn on the recorder today which shows the route up. There were a few options and it makes a loop going up. we went to the right at the fork which was a more difficult trail but we (I) wanted to do the easier route coming down. Because it had rained recently the trail was a little slippery so I mostly slid down on my butt. I thought that was a better option than falling down the mountain.

The upper falls were beautiful and worth the climb if you like that sort of thing. (I do). We did have to lift the dog up and down in a few places. I will definitely do this hike again. All in all it was less than 4 miles so not really a workout but it was fun.

Good hike but the view from observation deck was not very exciting. If your looking to get closer to a waterfall choose a different trail.

I did this trail on a weekday in early October and it was perfect! I saw only a handful of people so it wasn’t crowded this day. The trail is mainly shaded for the entirety of your journey, although it was still nice and humid. It’s basically a constant incline, featuring lots of rock steps and some just gradual incline. So on the way back you’re at a constant decline which is a nice reward. It’s a pretty long trail but so worth the views. Halfway up the “out” portion of the trail you’ll get your first taste of the views and from there, there were about 3-4 more epic viewpoints. Take lots of water and at least a few decent snacks because the trail is essentially almost 7 miles long in total.

Small parking lot, but spots open quickly as it’s a short tourist spot. Easy walk down to amazing views and a path under the falls. We were too early for fall color, but I bet it’s brilliant in this canyon.

Easy to moderate hike. Well worth the time an energy. Waterfall was nice but you see it across the gorge. Nice half day hike.

This is a tough one. Hardest one we've done so far. Bring lots water we ran out coming back down. The views at the end are amazing. There were only a couple of things I didn't care for and neither had to do with the trail. We started at 9:30 and this hike was really busy the whole time. Several people were playing loud music and being loud themselves. It took something away from the experience. I do feel a huge sense of accomplishment though, this one was tough.

Loved it. My GSD also enjoyed. Did this trail in October when the weather was cool. Falls were refreshing. Bring snacks.

If you are impaired and can't do the stairs go to the picnic shelter for a view of all 3 falls. Good place to take a break. Port a John on site.

Pretty falls, easy walk, crowded. Was able to share the view with about 30 new best friends.

Great view of falls from road or a quick 5 minute down the steps to get directly behind the deluge. Well traveled, well worth the time, but I wouldn't recommend the outhouse!

Beautiful water and falls.

Done the trails to Hurricane falls. Sooooo many steps down 560 so that means 560 up. Legs was quivering after this but well worth the hike. Breath taking views !
Loved it and will do this one again.

Easily the best hike I’ve done so far in S.C. Plenty challenging with a great payoff at the end.

Easy, and fun to walk under the falls, we visit regularly for a quick fun walk to cool off

Absolutely worth the hike. Pretty easy trail overall.

Gorgeous falls, wish we would have had our swim suits to swim at the base of the falls. Rocky at some points but still easy to hike.

Great trail. Well marked and easy to follow. Excellent view points over seeing the lake.

It's been a few years since I hiked this trail, but its a great one. At roughly 700 ft of climbing per mile, it is a tough one but it doesn't take a marathon runner to do it. I did the trail in early September so it was real hot. Do take plenty of water and some food. The trail starts off moderately; then gets steep about 1/2 way up. There is a good overlook at the shelter but it only gets better. You hit a ridge line where you get views facing south that are incredible. After this the hike is not as steep as you hike towards the summit. Once you hit the summit it goes downhill a bit towards the view that overlooks the reservoir. The day I went it was kind of rainy so there was hardly anyone on the back side of the mountain. You can also do a bit of exploring on top of the summit. The backside is facing north and there are not any roads or sounds other than nature. It was really quite serene. I hope to get back and do this hike. I would put this hike in my top 5 in the NC, SC, Ga mountain trails along with Looking Glass Rock hike, Blood Mountain, and Grandfather mountain.
