Can’t tell you how many times we’ve done this hike! We bring all of our out-of-state visitors there ages 23-60+. We’ve visited in every season and will continue to go back! Also close to downtown Breckenridge.

Had a beautiful hike today! I made it to black lake and it was great. Started at the trailhead at 8:45 and got back about 1:15. I would’ve liked to take more breaks but I was racing a storm so I had to hustle. The trails were completely covered with snow but packed well enough that you weren’t falling through every other step. I had crampons which were a huge help. After Mills Lake the trail levels out for a bit but the final push to Black Lake is pretty steep. I was very lucky that I had the whole trail all by myself.

Great, quick go-to trail for hiking in the front range! Dogs loved it too!

Great hike, a little harder then we were thinking. Brought two labs along, they got muddy but the Arch gave a nice view and a great place to sit and eat a little snack. The hike it self was out and back, the way there being mostly up hill. I thought it was "moderate" but definitely some slippery rocks this time of year. Wish i had worn my hiking boots, no my old tennis shoes.

Hiked on 4/22/18. Started around 930am and took us two hours with a nice stop at the top. The trail had very little snow/ice but a lot of slush which made it slick at times. Spikes not needed. It was moderately trafficked but it felt like mainly with trail runners. Absolutely beautiful views from the top.

nice quick hike. last half mile is still snow covered and icey as of 4/14. you'll need a vehicle with high ground clearance to drive to trail head.

Hiked on 4/22. Close to Denver and low foot traffic which makes for a nice option. There is certainly a steep incline at first but it levels out some and is doable for the whole family. Beautiful views at the top.

Wildflowers are beginning to come out

Earth Day! Two 9 year old boys, one lazier than the other, hiked bootleg-coyote-mule-barn- bootleg. We started around 10 am, stopped for 2 picnics and ended at 2:45.

The Coyote trail was difficult with the vertical gain, but best to do the work upfront and coast on down.

We had fun, likely will not return until fall to this trail. The meadows are filed with aspen and that will be gorgeous in October.

Great hike when you have a couple of hours to kill. Well maintained. Moderate traffic. Very dog friendly. It was fun for my pup and I to get our feet wet once we got to the falls! Definitely go in the spring vs the summer to see the falls.

$8 per car so bring friends. Beautiful hike. The top part of this trail is closed until July 15, 2018 but you can still hike to the continental divide view.

A bit muddy, but otherwise clear. Make sure to do spouting rock above the lake.

Fabulous hike. Go early to avoid the tourists in flip flops.

4/20/18 Steeper than I expected. There’s a period of elevation in the beginning where I got worn out, then it evens out for a bit and you get excited/ relieved and the last portion steepens with large rocks.
There is a restroom about 2/3 of the way up.
There wasn’t a parking fee when I went.
The lake wasn’t frozen. This trail would be better during summer when the trees come back to life!

Did this hike 04/20/2018. Before getting to the entrance of the park, you drive very slowly through unpaved dirt road not leveled at all. The entrance to the park is $8 per vehicle. Once you enter the park the bathrooms are right at the entrance, no more bathrooms after that. The park is breathtaking. The hike is through canyons, steady incline going up, no climbing over rocks or difficult obstacles. I would rate this easy if you get tired just take more breaks. There is also a trail called Fowler Trail you can do after this hike. Fowler is a super easy trail, the views are amazing, plenty of places for pictures.

Gorgeous hike. Can be heavy traffic on the weekend but still not bad. The view is worth the hike.

Beautiful day on the trail. Even though this is ranked moderate it’s a tough one. The views from the arch are incredible.

Great trail with spectacular views of Estes Park and the Rockies! Worth every step!

Only made it to Mills Lake, but it was beautiful. The weather can still be incredibly cold in the morning, but warms up significantly during the day. The trail conditions were a little sketchy at parts if you're not wearing crampons or snowshoes, but it's doable. Just prepare to sink into some soft spots. Especially once you get to the higher elevations.

Beautiful destination! Hanging Lake is stunning as is Spouting Rock just above it! Definitely worth the trip! I would probably rate this trail as on the hard end of moderate. You're gaining 1000ft of elevation over the course of a mile. If you're new to hiking it's going to be a tough trail but if you're more avid, it's not terribly difficult. Beginners should take it slow, bring lots of water, and be prepared for essentially climbing a miles worth of stairs (also some heights exposure right before the lake). I'd recommend at least some level of fitness before tackling this trail as there aren't many flat areas and it can be narrow in places. Parking lot can hold about 40ish cars and I've heard can be insane during busy times so go early or during an off-time/season! It's not just an easy on-ramp/off-ramp and there's no circling around the lot waiting so parking could be really annoying when busy. There is a nice biking/walking trail one might consider if they're more fit and not wanting to deal with the trail-head parking lot!

Only went as far as Mills Lake, but we hope to go farther next time. This hike is amazing. We saw bighorn sheep on the mountaintops above us, so don't forget to look up while you're there.

Awesome hike! The climb was a fun challenge. Be ready for a crowd.

Great day for a hike. Beautiful park. A bit too crowded for me. I got here early so parking was not an issue but there are not a lot of spots to park.

Kind of a crazy day today- winds reached up to 90 mph in the Denver area, and even in Estes the winds were blowing pretty bad (although not quite THAT bad). When we started off the hike, it was sunny and blue skies, with only a few clouds. By the time we got to the lake there were snow pellets slapping against our faces and we had to cover our faces as much as we could on the way down so we could see where we were going. We got pretty cold and wet, but the hike was worth it. Can’t wait to do this again in the summer!

Most of the hike was without wind except the top of the mountain. Wonderful hike! I agree with the previous review, this hike is a gem!

I loved all the different colors and scenery on this hike. Lots of different plants and flowers. The beginning of the trail was probably the hardest and strongest incline, after that it's fairly flat. There was some snow when I went and certain areas were kinda slippery so be mindful of the weather. Beautiful trail.

Love this trail! Short but challenging, and a beautiful view from the top!

It was easier than I expected, these is a great place for beginners, trail is clear and accessable, bring layers of you get there early in the morning before 7-8.

Pretty steep if you're not used to the elevation, but otherwise not a terribly strenuous hike. Bottom to top in under an hour should be easy. Went up 4/15 and there was a small amount of mud and no snow left on the trail. Parking lot was half full at 9, completely packed at 10:30. Sounds like a shuttle system will be put in in May, so get your hiking in before the busy season.

The trail was, for me, steep in a lot of places. I just took it slow (I'm not accustomed to the altitude), and was rewarded with fabulous views on the way up, and a nice little lake at the top.
