Absolutely gorgeous! One of my favorite places to visit no matter the season. This area does require that you have a pass or fishing/hunting license but it is easily acquired through the DNR website.

I love this area! This trail is perfect for those who haven't hiked in a while. Waterfalls, views, swinging bridges. Apparently there was a tornado in early November and the trail suffered a lot of damage. It's clear now but one should use caution. There are broken branches and whole trees leaning and hanging overhead. We heard a loud crack and watched a large limb come crashing down right in front of us. They've also had rain which has left some parts of the trail submerged. Not too deep but plan on getting wet feet. The rain has also increased the flow at the falls, it's pretty spectacular. Right below the falls is a good place to take a break, we stopped for lunch and enjoyed the view. Rattlesnake Point is breathtaking. Talk about a vista! I expect in the spring and summer it comes by it's name honestly. I'm looking forward to exploring other parts of Savage Gulf State Natural Area.

A great hike to do and the overlook spots had beautiful views.

Great loop around the lake. Easy to walk.

Pleasant trail. Many viewpoints along the canyon ridges. Expect heavy traffic on weekends...

this is the fourth time I've been to this trail. usually it's great but today the trail was closed due to dangerous conditions and fallen trees from a recent storm. We hiked anyway but encountered many obstacles that forced us off the main trail. We never made it to the falls due to impassable piles of large fallen timber, brush and branches. Heed the warning signs until they finally get the trail cleaned up and cleared again.

Nice easy trail with pretty overlooks of mountains.

The scenery is fantastic, especially in Autumn when the leaves are changing. There are plenty of ups and down, but it's mostly uphill until you reach the midway point. There are a bunch of roots and rocks, some narrow points and such. Overall, it's a nice, fairly easy hike, but I could definitely see it being a bit slick after a rain, and there are some rocks that certainly looked stable until I stepped on them.

Beautiful hike - lots of roots and rocks! This time I combined with Sitton Gulch for 10+ mile hike

Beautiful trail!!

This is a great little hike, although you could make it longer and keep going down other connecting trails. Parking is very easy at the Craven House, I think the previous review didn’t realize this. The view from the top is fantastic, a must do if you’re in Chatanooga.

Very nice hike - fairly easy - just the distance. Waterfall is beautiful as is the overlook. Great walk for someone like me trying to get into shape and get some outdoor time. Was fun!

Very good trail. 2.6 miles and worth the effort! Watch out for a lot of roots along g the path though. I'd give it a moderate rating.

Gorgeous!! The hike would be classed MODERATE as rated. Mainly because of the roots and rocks one has to navigate on virtually the whole trail. The views are incredible and we caught the Fall foliage just at the right time!! November 3rd was a perfect day for our hike. I recommend this to all my hiking friends.

Beautiful and a good hike with some challenging parts! Crowded at the beginning/end. Do the waterfalls trail while you’re there!

Great overlooks. Beautiful fall colors Nov 4th. We got there about 1030 and not awful crowded but on the way out near the beginning of the trail lots of hikers just arriving. Glad we came on the earlier side! Took us a little over 2 hours. This trail has some ups/downs but a good deal of fairly level walking too. Definitely lots of roots and rocks.

Good ups and downs with reflective hallowed ground to take. Tall, thin trees of all kinds. Some fallen with some gnarly roots to check out. Great for families. Our fit bits marked the loop at 2.7 miles. The app says 1.5 and the sign to enter the trail says 1.7 so it must have got extended over time for a wider circle.

Wow! Beauty all around but it was definitely a Moderate hike. So many rocks and roots to navigate along the way but worth it. Just have to take your time. The water, rock formations and multiple lookouts were spectacular. Leaves were peak so lots of people. Go early and you might get some peaceful moments!

More of a walk

Tough to beat!

Buggy and lots of dense brush limits visibility

No parking and really crowded

Definitely a good starter hike for anyone, including families. The walk was picturesque and the swinging bridge was particularly a healthy challenge for my kids. We loved hearing the stream, and finding so many kinds of leaves, fungi, rock formations, and bending trees to look at. Yet it was a bit odd to hear a nearby lawnmower as the houses in the area were very close and there were 2 sewer lids. One sign even said (paraphrasing) that there was unfiltered sewage emptying into the stream at one point. That made me feel very uncomfortable. The distance (1.6 miles) is also only for the loop. My oldest used his Fitbit and the entire hike is right at 2.4 miles.
