Great hike! Did the entire trail plus added a bit extra on by going up the Weatherford trail a ways before turning back - would up a little over 12 miles round trip.My wife and I enjoyed all the new growth and wild flowers after a month of some monsoon rains. It was 68 degrees - perfect, wonderful getaway from the valley. Good workout hike too,

Amazing trail. Wonderful views. One of first times using the free app. It stopped recording somehow so not exactly how far i actually hiked. Preparing to go Havasupai - this trail has lots of ups and more ups! Good work out for me. Temp in low 80’s with overcast skies made it perfect !!!

Love this trail. Nice easy hike into Walnut Canyon. My dog's favorite trail to hang with other dog friends.

5 starts might seem a bit overboard, but this trail absolutely rocked. Such beautiful scenery with massive Ponderosa pines and random car-sized boulders, and peaceful to boot - blue skies, birds of prey circling the cliffs and the smell of evergreens in the air. We took a brief detour to the Pit rock climbing area first (take the right fork after leaving the campground trailhead), which added some great scenery and elevation, then followed Sandys to the AZ trail before returning, giving us a 3.7 mile RT route.

This just seemed to be pulled from a postcard. Incredible. Easy, yes, But awesome nonetheless.

First half of the hike was awesome, followed the directions from another post to get to the caves which were neat. Views at the top were great, practically a 360 of the city. We followed the loop to return, and must have taken a wrong turn at a fork because we ended up on a trail that parallels 89 for a bit. Walking near the road and in people's backyards were the only negatives to this hike. If we had stayed in the woods would have been lovely. Water/Gatorade/snacks highly recommended! Some shady spots depending on time of day

Amazing hike! My wife, 2 year old daughter and I had a blast hiking through the aspens, up to the incredible view of the peaks! I was pleasantly surprised by the deceiving amount of elevation gain, thanks to the long, sweeping switchbacks. Can’t wait to do it again!

Really loved this hike. Narrow road up to the trailhead and narrow trail itself at times. Hiked with two labs without a problem. Gradual incline with stunning views of the aspen trees. Keep going to the end to see a gorgeous view of the San Francisco Peaks. Worth it. Bet it’s even more gorgeous in the fall. Bonus: no fee to enter and park.

One of my favorite hikes. So beautiful!

Starts off fairly flat then BAM the climb begins and never ends. Beautiful at the top. Would of been five stars but signing for loop a little confusing. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Loved it! Good parking lot. Only hiked 2 miles in and out as it started to get more difficult for our small pup. Beautiful scenery. Good tree coverage. Definitely will be back!!

Fairly easy trail, with beautiful views.

It was a good hike, not too strenuous up the mountain. Missed the caves though. There should be a sign showing the trail to the caves.

hiking moderate and at the top great view of Mount Humphreys

I read that several people missed the caves. They are not marked. There is a fork in the trail as you near the peak where you can look over the saddle and see houses on the back side. The fork to the left takes you on the main trail on the loop to the highest point. The trail to the right takes you on a short run along the lower ridge toward the West. That is where the caves are. It is a dead end trail. It is a nice hike. The higher altitude makes it harder to get your wind. It’s a good workout.

Good workout ! Didn’t like the cinder gravel though

I actually really liked this trail even though we somehow missed the caves. I felt like the hikes were easy enough to follow but I always use the AllTrails App when I go out. We met a few friendly people along the way but it wasn’t too busy. The climb to the summit was a small challenge but you can feel it in your legs. I also saw a snake slithering across the path although it didn’t look like a rattler. It was a nice break from the hot Phoenix heat.

The forest was closed on 6/30/2018.

Terrible markings. We drove very far to see the caves and missed them entirely. I read all the reviews and did lots of research, yet we still went to the top instead of the caves somehow. Also harder than moderate.

Gorgeous home through the trees with a nice contrasting view of green trees and brown hills

Entrance to road is closed due to extreme fire risk

Trail is closed due to drought.

Nice views on top and caves were on top too. Lots a shortcutting if you want to veer off the path.

The trail is well marked. The assent is moderate, but nothing too difficult. The old caves are pretty neat and is worth the hike. There are also panoramic views of Flagstaff and the San Francisco Peaks. This hike is well worth it and only took a couple of hours.

May 16th 2018. Yes the road is rough and narrow going in but totally worth it. The aspen are not quite yet fully leafed out and wildflowers haven't arrived but still a great hike and absolutely beautiful!! The elevation will leave you gasping for breath if you're not used to it - 9780 at the meadow - but it's a steady climb and never steep so just take it slow and enjoy the scenery.

Beautiful area but hard to stay on the intended trail. After you descend down, you cross over the pipeline intersection and head towards the mountain. There are a lot of small off trails so I’m not certain I actually stayed on the intended trail or not. But.. it was beautiful and great views of Flagstaff. I’ll try it again soon!

This trail is accurately rated as a moderate hike. However, this trail is at a 8800 foot elevation or higher the whole length. So, be prepared. There are many aspen groves. Therefore, this would be a great hike during the fall. Also, the views of the valley below are spectacular.
