Hiking

The road to the campground and trailhead are still closed. Hiked the road up to Lockett Meadow but crampons or snowshoes are need for the trail itself. I'd give it a few more weeks before this trail is fully ready for use. Great views and hike though.

Nature tripsGreat!No shadeOver grown

went June 2020, there is a closed gate to stop cars from going up. so you can walk all the way to the meadow, or you can turn back lol. it is not closed. very minimal contact with other hikers but everyone was extremely friendly. great hike and found a meadow. left because we saw bear droppings.

Great fall hike when the leaves are changing, pretty relaxed. Need a truck or jeep most likely to get the the trailhead

Great hike & views! We went in mid October so we missed the GOLDEN TRAIL. Was suggested to go at the end of September next time.

Road was blocked to go up to the trailhead, so if your planning on going up like we did make sure you give yourself extra time to hike the three miles up to it. Lots of snow and slush so make sure your shoes are waterproof.

Went for a Halloween day hike and it was beautiful! The road is a bit scary because it’s very narrow, rocky and there are sharp turns. Would recommend to get there early to avoid meeting other cars on the way up and to drive slow. Leaves from the aspens are gone but still beautiful!! I will plan to be back next year for sure to catch the fall colors!

The aspen meadow is absolutely stunning. Close to 5.5-6 miles round trip, but absolutely breathtaking.

The hike is easy to follow, very beautiful as well. The drive to the trail is a bit dangerous, I recommend getting there super early and with an off-road. Also drive slow and be on the look out for other vehicles. The trail is very narrow and bumpy with sharp turns.

This is one of my favorite trails in Flag area. It’s gorgeous. The vast Aspen trees, moss and wild berries along the trail transport you into what feels like Colorado. A really nice trail if you want a little “escape” from Arizona.

Beautiful view but near the too the road has huge dips. These weren’t here 2 weeks ago. Several cars got stuck. Very deep holes and very deep sand. Don’t recommend in anything but an suv or off road vehicle.

We chickened out just on the drive to trailhead! Was off-road, rocky, very narrow going up the mountain with blind turns! This wasn’t mentioned in reviews of the trail. Make sure your vehicle is prepped for off-roading.

Nature tripsGreat!

Such an amazingly beautiful and peaceful trail. Highly recommend getting there as early as possible. Got to the parking lot around 7:30 on a Sunday and it was already filling up. It’s a packed trail for sure but you can still find solitude among the aspens. The wind blowing through the trees is almost haunting and adds to the overall experience. The hike itself wasn’t too difficult. It’s definitely worth it towards the end to head all the way up the switchbacks to get more views.

Beautiful hike, definitely get there early and please drive slower it gets really dusty for the other cars and campers. The aspens probably have another week of yellow but no matter what it’s a beautiful hike in the woods, definitely recommend!

The aspens were perfect this weekend! Make sure you get up the mountain before 8am so you don’t have to deal with the road being closed. Easy slight uphill out to the basin and nice downhill on the way back to the trailhead.

This place is insanely gorgeous in the fall, and insanely busy. If you want to be able to drive up to the trail head. Plan on arriving before 7am. After the parking area fills up you have to walk 3 miles up the dirt road to get to the trail head. It’s worth getting up early. And please, take your dog poop with you. We picked up at least 5 bags to throw away. Let’s keep it nice for everyone. @wifingaround on Instagram

Nice trail in the middle of aspen woods. At the beginning it was a mixture of pine woods and aspens, but towards the end it was all golden aspens and looked great! The last 3 miles of the drive towards the trailhead was off-road, narrow and steep. Make sure your vehicle is ready for that.
