I climbed this trail with my bro, both equipped with snowshoes! In winter, this trail is beautiful! We took some amazing pictures! The view from the fire tower is phenomenal! It was really cold and windy up there, but it is so worth it!

Great view from the tower and a nice little cabin at the top to read up on its history! Just a few days after the storm (3-11-18 hiked) so snowshoes were a must. First time snowshoeing and I’m glad it was done on Goodnow! A couple little icy streams along the way. There was another cabin of sorts about 3/4 of the way at the top but it appeared to have mostly collapsed under the weight of recently accumulated snow.

Pretty tough and steep at times, came here with my boyfriend and our husky and made it to 3500 ft elevation before we decided to turn back because the ice made it super slippery and dangerous. Will be back in the warmer weather!

Did as part of the Tupper Lake Triad today. All 3 little mountains is just under 8 miles. Fun to do all 3 in one day. Very short hike 2.2 miles total. Great views from summit. There is a fire tower but if you do not like them you do not need to climb it to have good views. Look for the little benches to see great views.

Great trail!

The last of three for the day. Great climb. need spikes. There is a fire tower on top.

I LOVE this mountain. Absolutely wonderful Winter hike. I used microspikes but probably didn't need them. 45 degree day which was awesome. However, it was super windy & cold at the Summit. That was fine. This was my third Summit in under 24 hours (Rattlesnake & Poke-O before it). Amazing way to wrap up things up!

I did Rattlesnake just before Poke-O. It ended up being tougher than my previous hikes here. I had to navigate up a huge wall of ice in my microspikes. I hit the Summit right at sunset. I headlamped it out and bushwhacked around the ice wall on my way down (no problem). A nice day of elevation gain.

Great hike!!! Easy, but fairly long trail. views on top r stunning!!!

Easy walk, as prior reviewers said. If you are doing the fire tower challenge, it is the easiest trip. Nice view of the High Peaks to the west and a bit of Lake Champlain to the east

Started great, takes you straight up. Very icy! Definitely need crampons and an ice axe. My husband and I were using our micro spikes. Got close to the summit but unfortunately didn’t get to reach it. Decided to turn back as we felt it would’ve been unsafe. Lots of slipping and sliding lol BUT we will be back

Easy walk, it wasn’t too icy today. Beautiful view from the tower.

Sunday January 21, 2017: Parked at Mill Brook Rd at around noon, a very pleasant and steady uphill climb in snowy, sunny and warm conditions. I would say the last .75 miles is where your gain most of the elevation, and, the balsam forest on top is very nice in a few inches of new snow. This is a good and relaxing walk up to the fire tower. Was back at the Parking lot at 4 pm, I walked down with a fellow hiker.

Note that the entrance on Beaver Kill Rd may be somewhat difficult to access in some cars. It turns into a seasonal road and the snow maintenance is spotty. But the drive down that road is beautiful on its own.
Anyway, I just did this hike with 2-3 inches of snow on the ground. It's a little steep in some places but very manageable. The trail is beautiful overall, there's a spring and a lean-to toward the top of the mountain, and the fire tower view is spectacular. Also, the dense pine forest at the top of the mountain is straight out of a fairytale, something that needs to be seen in the snow.

Have hiked this trail at least 20 times starting as a youngster. It never disappoints and views from the fire tower will are amazing!! If it’s a windy day, the tower does shake. Climb anyway!!!

Great little trail to start off snowshoeing in the ADK mountains. Had to break the trail today starting halfway up due to the recent snowfall. Pretty good traction though with the fresh snow. Very little ice to deal with. Sunny today so there was a great view at the top!

This was a great first snowshoe hike. Took exactly 4 hours. Stunning views.

Great hike weather was cool and sunny red trail up was a running stream. Views were excellent
Made the 7 mile loop was a great moderate trail
Everybody should do this trail at least once

The peak was not as high as I would have liked. Nice and clean!

Great little walk or short run along a dirt road. However Very rewarding views from the Fire Tower Cab for the short distance. Stopped here after Poke-O-Moonshine and was not disappointed.

The New Trail offers several great views to keep you motivated to press on. The work they did to the trail is really amazing. I never went up the old trail but several locals enjoying the Tower truly agree the trail they placed now is great. Keep a note round trip does change to 3.6 miles. Also Someone has however removed the sticks that were placed to keep you from taking the old trial. So when you come to the Y with red trail placards going two opposite directions note that the one that is brighter and newer is the one to follow. When you come up to this section don’t take the trail to that cuts off to your right keep moving straight ahead. You will soon step across a stream and even though it seems to be taking you in the opposite direction of the Fire Tower it will wrap around and be well worth it. Great rewarding Views from the Summit with no need to climb the tower.

Really fun with amazing views.

The trail to the top of Black Mountain is heavily used and well-marked. The views from the top are awesome, The loop down to the ponds is wet in places but the ponds are nice. Carry a map and you won’t get confused by the side trails and intersections on trails that lead to other ponds.

A little icy towards the top but other than it was awesome.

Beautiful hike today up Goodnow! Great views from the tower, with hardly any ice on the trail (I was fine without micro spikes, just wore my trail runners). What a great day to get outside.

Cute hike in the snow. Short n sweet with great view. Did as part of triad on Thanksgiving
