beautiful trail, the falls are gorgeous. Mile markers would be nice for first timers. Watch your time in the winter PM. Quite a few signs of sasquatch.

Amazing beach walk; really nice! Easy access off Hwy 101, a paved parking area with restrooms, trash and recycling receptacles and a few picnic tables, some of which were "accessible"...We found it to be our favorite beach in the Crescent City area; the sand was immaculate, sand dollars were prevalent, interesting driftwood was plentiful...the ocean view, the breeze, the sun, the waves; it was all perfect today!

We only had a little bit of daylight left and were in the vicinity so we chose this short, beautiful trail. Only problem was you could hear the street noise (hence the 4 stars). The park service is trying to re-establish the waterfall and creek which were covered over years ago due to logging…hence the pipe that someone complained about. But we found it quite beautiful.

on Trillium Falls Trail

Was really disappointed to find that Trillium Falls was water coming out of a pipe. Wouldn’t waste your time on this if you are just traveling.

I did this hike in and out from Mattole in 4.5 hours with my dog. I took a path that stayed above the beach and also diverted up and over to Windy Point. Misty rain on the top with a rainbow bending into the ocean. The end of the hike is the Punta Gorda abandoned light house. Great spot with seals resting on the beach in front of the light house. Had our lunch on the top of the light house watching the seals and the crashing waves.

I only wish I had more time! I drove through a few times during my week in the area. I would have loved to wonder the area much more though. It was a beautiful drive.

Beautiful, wild and surprise.

Easy hike beautiful views!!

We passed the trailhead twice before actually finding it. It was late afternoon, around 4:30 when we started. The beginning is all downhill, it’s a pretty easy descent. You can hear the waves throughout the trail and it’s really wonderful. There are parts of the descent that are dicey, I had to watch my footing from a steep fall off. We didn’t run into anyone on the trail at all on the way down. When we got down to the beach, it was pretty misty and it added to the eerie feel. It was so secluded and quiet, with only the waves and the trees and it was thrilling yet terrifying. The way back up was a lot more challenging than I was expecting, but I didn’t seem to mind the drop offs on the ascent. Overall, despite the steep incline on the way back up, it’s a cool, short trail with rewarding views at the end. I’d probably do it again.

Read reviews and noticed some mentioned an upper trail. Unless they are talking about the road on top of the ridge we never found it. The hike is an easy hike EXCEPT the sand, man there is a lot of sand. It made this hike one of the most difficult hikes I’ve done because of it. Beautiful views, awesome lighthouse. Be sure you have a tide schedule because there is a section you have to go around a point that I can see the tide could come up and you could get stuck trying to get back. Otherwise amazing! Hated the sand though.

Beautiful trail and a great hike. was all alone on the trail in late August. I will give warning that I ran into a black bear at the trailhead enjoying some of the black berries there. Yelling and waving my arms scared him off, but still a scary moment.

Beautiful, so quiet, just the sound of my footsteps and the soft trickle of water. The trailhead to the beach trail is 2.5 miles and the beach trail is 1.5, so more like 8 miles. The trail had just been brushed and is very nice. Take the trail behind you at the beach cutoff, it appears like the trail might be to the right and down, but that is just a scrabble.

We loved visiting the light house and made it just in time for a tour at the end of low tide. The volunteers who work the shop are very firm on tide schedule and will ensure all visitors are off the island the moment the tide starts coming in.
Met some really incredible locals who said visiting even when the shop is closed to see the buoy tree in memory of crescent city individuals who have been lost at sea is a common practice.

As of August 2018 a bridge is down, so this trail is closed.

Short easy hike, not closed anymore.

A very nice walk along the beach. Read other reviews about walking in the sand. Do suggest getting legs into shape if you don't walk a lot. Did hill work since I didn't have access to sand. Was good to go. Sights and sounds were wonderful. Seals were very fun to watch once you get to the lighthouse.

absolutely amazing trail. went in August and the water was still flowing. the hike was beautiful. didn't see a soul the whole hike. huge recommendation from me for a short hike.

This was a great “break up the drive” loop we took with our kids while driving down the 199. It is kid-friendly, lots of parking, with great views of the ocean.

Easy easy easy...decent redwood action, weak waterfall

A beautiful hike! My wife and I carried our lunch in our packs, and ate just after we got to the falls; an easy hike at that point. We decided to finish the entire 2.5 mile loop. Be warned! The last 2/3 of the hike is much more difficult, and--VERY important-- there is NO cell phone coverage in the area. I would upgrade this hike to above moderate for the entire loop; fairly easy for the hike to the falls. The Redwoods are spectacular, (better than LBJ Grove)! Oh yeah, I did not see even one Trillium; they must bloom at a different time of the year.

Rigorous, especially for kids. But worth the walk for the views and the adventure. Parts of the trail are slippery and the way back is a climb, but we all enjoyed it.

Nice trail. Went around 6pm. Was greeted in the end by a little brown bear. Really scary when hiking alone. But I calmly walked by and it didn’t come towards me. I was by bridge view the elk.

Beautiful hike! The waterfall is very small but there are endless blackberries!

A great place to find tide pools near Crescent City.

Beautiful hike along the beach. I highly recommend taking the upper ridge trail - we took the beach for half of the way there and definitely regret it. Although the upper ridge is soft sand in parts, overall much much better trail with just as beautiful views. Lighthouse was stunning with elephant seals sleeping right on the beach!

I love getting to see the great trees—perfect little walk from the visitor’s center!

Love this to take friends who can’t walk far. Loop trail goes through quiet green forest with ferns, creeklets, and yes Big trees.
