As an amateur hiker, I found this moderately challenging but satisfying. Lots of incline but with a wonderful view. It was a beautiful scenic route and heavily shaded. Terrain was a bit loose in some areas so the correct shoes for this hike is essential. Parking was a bit confusing and I think we began at the wrong end as we started decline end first. I would not bring my children here however there was a family with small children. Overall, one of my favorites so far, definitely one to do again (in the the spring, when there’s more water)

El Dorado county needs to start connecting the trails (either dg it or pave it ) and have it go continuously past Camino on into El Dorado National Forest, I love biking it, it's a good trail

Short and sweet hike for those looking for a low key jaunt. Pretty atmosphere.

This is classified as a moderate hike but for the first time hiker it may be a challenge. There are many sets of steep wooden stairs. Also rock “stairs” to navigate. Dogs on leash are allowed to hike here. I would not recommend taking a dog that is not used to steep rocky hikes. My girl is a good hiker and can handle inclines but this was too difficult for her. We had to take several breaks and she only made it about halfway. Be careful going down as some of the places have gravel that can cause you to slip. Finally I would suggest going in the winter or spring. I went in the summer and though the lake was pretty the waterfalls were almost non existent.

Great hike mostly an incline up stairs and rocks. Great picnic area about 1.4 miles up. Lovely mystic look with a forest feel.

I do not recommend this trail for solo women.

I went biking on this trail midday on a weekday. I rode from ~ Del Paso Blvd to ~Capital City freeway and back.

Not only were there large groups of transient men congregating both adjacent to and in the middle of the trail, but I was followed on bike by a seemingly well-off guy who I believe was haunting the trail specifically for the purpose of following women. (He was a white male, medium athletic build, mid 30s-early 40s, blue cycling outfit, phone band on left arm, with brown mid length hair.)

I successfully got him to stop following me but the trail is so isolated and lined with dense vegetation that anything could have happened without a passerby noticing. I won't be going there again, not alone at least.

I love this lake. Sweet tree you can jump out of right off the trail. Definitely will return.

This place is getting trashed unfortunately. Would be helpful to try clean up the area. We filled the only bag we had but still had to leave with a ton behind. This place/waterfall was more beautiful when there wasn’t graffiti everywhere.

I’d say it’s a boring local trail. No views. The loop at some point takes you along the hwy, not very pleasant to walk with the dogs. There’s really nothing to this trail. I see why locals enjoy it: close by, easy. Maybe winter, fall, spring be a little better. Definitely not a summer trail.

Park itself is very nice. Definitely worth checking it out.

The hike/walk to the waterfall was very nice, we got there later than we wanted to, we got there at 10:30AM. It’s definitely up to you and your enjoyment but due to the heat and very little shade, I recommend getting there earlier. But the sun did feel very nice on my skin ☀️ and don’t forget your sunblock. We took the upper trail that lead to the waterfall. It took us a little over an hour to get to the waterfall then we climbed our way down to swimming hole. The waterfall was very nice but the scenery to the river was gorgeous! I could have spent forever there. One more thing, if you decide to take your pet(s) please check the weather, go as early as possible, and take a lot of water. We ran into a few very hot and dehydrated pets. Fortunately my friend was a genius and brought quite a few water bottles with her that we were able to give water away to them. Please be safe.

This trail has many options of different length hikes. They provide paper maps at the trail head to help navigate though the park.

Beautiful trail, but part of it is closed for repair and there's no warning signs until you get to it, there's a walking path that takes you up the hill and around it but not biking.

Great for families.

Part of UC Davis - mostly paved - plenty of ducks - well marked signs detailing the plants and trees from around the world

Gorgeous trails with views of the river. This is a great hike for a hot day because there are so many places to take a quick dip and cool off.

Nice and easy, good relaxing stroll

Lots of climbing but pretty scenery throughout! I didn’t feel there was a big ‘pay-off’ moment at the top with a nice view so that’s why I’d rate this one a 4!

Nice easy hike, mostly shaded. Saw deer and lots of birds.

great paved trail for road bikes. went 15 miles out, stopped for breakfast and 15 miles back.

Great trail! Fun swimming spots, but beware there is little to no shade and on a hot day it’s a bit treacherous. Take extra water!

a nice hike that loops at the end. falls and swimming hole.

Great hike for kids and tons of water to play in once you reach the Falls. We were there at 9AM and were the only ones on the trail! Definitely would do this hike again.

A fabulous hike with diverse trails. We took the high trail to the falls and later found out it was the best way-better Trail. We got excited as soon as we heard the Falls so cut ourselves short. We should have followed the recommended route. We also went a bit of different route back but still a great loop.

Reviews were so helpful! It made the loop feel very accesible as we knew where to go. Started out at 9am and weather quickly neared the high 90s, some shade but there was a nice cool breeze to help w the hike. Would go again in cooler weather or even just earlier on in the day this summer!

Watch out there are snakes on the trail. We saw one hidden in the bushes and one on the trail. Kept warning people to watch out.

Great trail (walking and biking). I have exercised on this trail, too many times to count. A very good hike, 5-6 miles round trip is very doable.

I loved this hike, Hiked in to the waterfall felt pretty easy going and I did it 30 weeks pregnant, just made sure to bring lots of water and brought some snacks. You do have to maneuver down the the swimming hole part but it wasn’t too difficult and the water felt great!! Definitely will do this one again!!
