The road to the trailhead is currently closed for construction. I would not recommend until it reopens as it will add miles of pavement hiking.

Still a winter wonderland and definitely worth a visit. Hiked on 3.18.18 in boots with a friend hiking in tennis shoes. Doable, but spikes/more tread would be helpful on the way down! The trail itself is hard to see in some places, but mostly just follow the packed snow. What a dream.

Breathtaking views from this busy trail. Went on March 18, 18 before the expected snow. crampons or spikes were a must, those without them were REALLY struggling. Didn't quite see the need to go as extensive as snow shoes, while many had them. my 5 y.o., wife and I did great with just the crampons, enjoying every mountain view along the way. Lots of deer, and elk not from from the trailhead as well.

The rating on this trail has been adjusted to easy. When comparing the rating of other moderates in the area, a .7 nicely built tourist trail doesnt compare to the 8+ mile round trip trails up mountains with cliff edge rocky paths. I am not putting down this BEAUTIFUL 5 star trail, however, I just wanted to adjust the difficulty level to keep it consistent with the Colorado Springs area.

Gorgeous snowy hike/walk on March 20. It took me longer than expected but it was so peaceful and I only saw one other person the whole time. So it was well worth the drive. Very majestic. Highly recommend it.

This was a lovely hike on a sunny, brisk day. I normally don't enjoy hiking up roads, but there was a lot to see in the first 3/4 mile - climbers, dam, creek...The turnoff on the single track trail was lovely and different rock out croppings provided awesome views of the reservoir. Easy afternoon hike. For more details and photos. https://etbtravelphotography.com/2018/03/19/road-trip-to-the-rockies-button-rock-preserve/

What a great little hike! Got to the trailhead about 8am on a Sunday and saw no one on the trail, must have been lucky!

Trail was very snowy and due to the past few days of wind the snow wasn't very packed. Super beautiful and amazing hike and there were plenty of people on the trail, but I would not recommend it without snow shoes or spikes

Pretty hike! Short enough to do mid-day, microspikes would be beneficial!

Hiked 3/13 with boots plus 30 lbs of camera gear, 20oz of water, a camera monopod/tripod/walking stick, and a MacBook Pro 15 (Which I regret carrying). Trail is mostly snow and very little ice unless you include the frozen lake. Great for first timers during all seasons. Definitely quite the winter wonderland and there's a fair amount of friendly people throughout the trail.

Hiked early in the morning. Decided to go out and back on Sleepy Lion trail instead of taking the loop back which would have just followed the road. We also took Professor's Ranch trail which takes you to the top of the Dam instead of going to the bottom where the water outflow is. You will see the sign as you wind down near the Dam. Great hike with views of Long's Peak and the Res.

Very relaxed and beautiful trail!

Hiked 3/14. Great hike for people who are familiar with the outdoors. We hiked with just hiking boots but microspikes would have definitely been handy as the snow was a bit slick/slippery. Beautiful weather made it an incredibly beautiful hike. When we arrived at Emerald Lake it was extremely windy but we were able to sit and take in the majesty of the lake for a few minutes before we headed back.

Nice hike.

Pretty and easy trail with a beautiful waterfall and view.

Almost completely packed down snow right, as all the trails in this area will be for awhile. Slight elevation gain to Alberta Falls, but nothing crazy. We have a 4 and 7 year old and the only one that used spikes was my wife. On the way back it would be helpful though. Right now you can see the water at the top of the waterfall running down through the ice... very cool. This one if good for kids. We do it once during winter and once during summer every year.

Great trail for beginners like myself! Can’t wait to go in the summer

Definitely recommend spikes. Snowy towards the end. Falls were frozen over which made the hike anticlimactic. Would recommend saving this for when it gets warmer.

Pretty decent. Get there early for parking

Hiked with family of 4. Great loop and views.

Amazing hike!

I loved this hike! One of my new favorites that isn’t far from town. We went early before everyone arrived and it was so peaceful and beautiful. Highly recommend this loop!

This is a short loop with little elevation change. Great for taking dogs or kids, or those new to hiking. There is plenty of parking and decent restrooms. Watch out for ice during the winter season. There are several drainage areas that stay icy for long periods of time. If this hike is moderate, it is barely so.

If you can end up at the reservoir around dusk this hike is magic.

Did the hike on Sunday, 3/4, and the snow was packed down enough to hike in my hiking boots. I had Yaktrax on, which helped a lot after the sun got warmer and slushed up the snow on some of the steeper parts. The trail does take on a few different paths at points, but they all converge together eventually. Get there early, too! I got there at about 9:30, and the giant lot was already half full, and by the time I got down around 11:30, it was completely full.

Snow is packed enough to do in boots!

This was an excellent hike. Took my 15 year old along, and she really got into the views. Most of the hike was only borderline "moderate", but as you approach the top there are a few sections that approach vertical. Made for a terrific day hike, and gave my boyfriend the urge to do a lot more of that.

Gorgeous winter hike. Tough with the extra mileage due to the road closure. Definitely bring snow shoes.

A nice place to go for a walk.. not a long walk.. but a good walk up the steps and down them.
