Nice and easy hike to Cascade Falls. So many great views along the way.

10-15-18 The parking lot is closed. Park off the highway and the trailhead is 1/4 mile. Bathrooms were unlocked, but have no running water. Outstanding hike. Tons of room to explore at the end of the trail. Waterfall was small at this time.

10-15-18 Parking lot is closed, but it is only 1/4 mile to the trailhead. Cascade Falls is to the left and this trail (to the right) appeared to be labeled Desolation Wilderness. The notice posted at the trailhead stated that from 8-29-18 until 12-31-20 the Desolation Wilderness is closed unless you have a permit (see photo). THERE ARE NO PERMITS IN THE BOX. Cascade Falls was awesome!

I have mixed feelings about this hike.
The trailhead is somewhat easy to access (located at the very back of bay view campground). Limited parking especially on busy weekends.
You get incredible views of Emerald Bay from several view points on your way up.
There are lots of switchbacks on your way up. LOTS of elevation gain!
Granite Lake is lovely and a very nice place to take a breather.
There are two peaks:
The northern peak has better views of emerald bay. I did not see a clear trail to this peak.
The southern peak is about 200ft higher in elevation, has better views of desolation wilderness. The trail to this peak is very clear.
Dog friendly!

Pretty and relaxing walk!
Easy to access trail, lots and lots of parking.
You can access the beach at many different places.
The trail itself just goes along the right bank of the river it doesn’t cross back and forth like the map shows.
Dog friendly!

Beautiful hike.
Gorgeous views of Cascade Lake and Lake Tahoe.
Trailhead easy fairly to locate (at the very back of bay view campground), not a lot of parking especially on a busy weekend.
Trail to the general ‘falls area’ is short but narrow and pretty rocky.
Once you reach the general ‘falls area’ there is no defined trail, lots of space to wander.
Lots of rushing water in the spring, only a trickle in the fall but there are some beautiful fall trees.
Dog friendly.

Beautiful!!!

A little steep at some points, but views at the end make it worth it

Pretty short and easy. The views of the lake are amazing. We did this hike the first weekend of October. The sound and views of cascade falls are beautiful. It probably took us 20 minutes one way, maybe less. You can explore further than the falls if you want, but the falls are a great place to stop and have a snack. Even if you’re not a hiker or someone who keeps active, this hike is fairly easy and the views are well worth the travel.

We didn’t realize parking is available in the campground right in front of the trailhead. Although there isn’t an abundance of parking there, it is available. There are signs indicating where parking for the trailhead are allowed. Just FYI for anyone thinking you have to park on the road outside of the campground.

Great view from the top!

This is an amazing hike! Anyone with some hiking experience can do it w/o a problem! It drizzled all the time but we still enjoy it very much! On a clear day the views must be breathtaking as they were on a rainy day! I totally recommend it!

Nice hike. Path starts out flat and even then turns Rocky. My adventure took me about 1.5 hours total but I stopped at the water and explored for a good 45 minutes. I hear it is better when there is more water but there was still a sloping stream to explore. Very peaceful if not crowded. I went on a Monday morning and it wasn't too crowded and I found parking.

Spectacular views on this well groomed trail!

great vista views up and down

Kind of a disappointing backpacking trip. The permit system kinda sucks if you want to be secluded...After the first night, backpackers can camp wherever they want, not just in their zone. Cathedral Lake ended up being extremely busy and there are only two decent places to camp. Also, be very aware that people will be hiking up the the peak of Mt. Tallac as early as 3 AM to catch the sunrise. I understand hikers need to be loud to warn bears, but blasting electronic music and hollering was a bit much.

Tough hike, but the views along the way are breathtaking.

Such a beautiful and amazing hike. Great incline.

Don't forget the falls aren't there in September. Still awesome though, was able to cross the "falls" and go way further and higher.

Awesome trail! Well worth the effort! My wife and I hiked it with our 3 daughters, 4, 8, and 10. Took just a hair over 2 hours to get to the peak. Absolutely breathtaking views. And the girls loved it. Best hike ever.

fun for family at salmon run and pretty

This trail was really scenic and a joy to walk. The only downfall is that the trail just ends. You need to be careful and walk through the big boulders and lead yourself to the cascades by the noise of the water.

Beautiful hike! Elevation gain from the start all the way up! View from the top is spectacular!

Great short hike to beautiful views of cascade lake with lake tahoe in the background. I disagree with this hike taking 20 minutes.. we didnt bring water because we read that review =( About an hour to enjoy the stream / falls out & back. highly recommended.

Amazing hike. My Garmin clocked it at 4.5mi and about 1,400ft elevation gain...took us 3 hours round trip. Be prepared to climb - no rock scrambling but a lot of vertical starting at the trail head and going all the way up. Totally worth the work

Good 5 mile hike out and back. Beautiful views with a lot of other hikers coming through. Overall increase in elevation was about 900 feet from the parking lot. Please don’t feed the grouse. A pair was calmly walked alongside us for 20 feet or so.

Beautiful views nice short hike!

Beautiful and short. Could be done in 20 minutes one way. Great view of the Cascade lake with a waterfall at the end

This hike is just BEAUTIFUL! My husband and I did this hike about 2 years ago, and we had such fond memories we had to do it again. Our dog loved it too! The views are beautiful, it’s a little dusty, but SO worth it!

Great hike! Incredible views of both Cascade lake and Lake Tahoe. Hike was moderate with a lot of steps on and over boulders! I would definitely do it again!

Easy hike, great views, lots of waterfalls, double lake view and peaceful. Lots of mosquitoes, bring spray!!!!
