Went on Sunday 8/19. Got there at 3pm and found parking! Hike started with lots of people and then there were less and less until we were only by ourselves. We got a nice view of rainier on the way up but it got too smoky after so the mountain faded away but still amazing sights to take in. Make sure you bring water, sunscreen, snacks, candies and camera with portable charger and lots of space for pictures! It gets a little breezy at the top but never had the need to put another layer on. Took the golden gate trail back down crossing through meadows of green and flowers and a stream. What a sight! Would definitely recommend this hike and will visit again if I’m ever around the Seattle area

Beautiful hike. Pretty quick hike, but you’ll definitely get a good workout in. Amazing view from the top. Lots of smoke because of wildfires at this time.

Hands down the greatest hike I’ve ever done. The first day we went to do it (June 29) it was completely fog and snow covered which was super haunting and spooky. We heard an avalanche on the upper mountain, wish we got to actually see it. The next week we went back and a huge portion of the snow was gone near the bottom, and the views were INSANE. Absolutely amazing, expect to cry when you see the mountain and the view from panorama point.

If you want the classic Instagram photo with Mount Rainier, this is the place to go. There are many rocks to take pictures off of along the way and great views. When we went, there was smoke from the BC wildfires so we didn’t get a good view of Mount Si and Mount Hood. The total hike took about 2 hours, but with photo shoots along the way, we took about 4 hours in total.

Amazing!!! Sadly, the smoke was bad.

Amazing!!! Sadly, the smoke was bad.

Definitely a rewarding hike. I loved it.. by far my favorite place.

We did this hike on Friday, 8/17/18. Glad we did since it wasn't as hazy out as the day after. We got there after 3 PM and the parking lot was full. We hiked it counterclockwise. Breathtaking views everywhere! Some hikers warned us about a black bear although we didn't see one. Lots of marmots and chipmunks tho! I highly recommend this trail. Will definitely go back!

Great moderate-difficult day hike with outstanding lake views at the end. The trail to Rachel lake can get a bit confusing as there are no marked trail signs but keep looking for where you find the maximum density of footprints and follow along. Recorded about 11.5 miles RT to Rampart lake and back.

Arrived at 10am on Saturday, August 18. Main lot was full but the overflow lot had plenty of spaces. Trail was beautiful and well marked with lots of options to jet off and take other loops along the way. There were a lot of people on the trail between 10 and 12:30, including some groups preparing for Rainier. You have a view of Rainier almost the entire way, and about halfway through the loop you get to Panorama Point, where you can see the cascade range including a view of Mt. Adams and Mt. Hood on a clear day. It was hazy from the wildfires but we did see the top of Mt. Adams.

I’m new to hiking so I wasn’t sure how I’d do on this one being all uphill but it wasn’t so hard to get to Comet Falls and it was beautiful all the way. We went ahead and went all the way to Van Trump Park, which for me was quite a challenge. My phone tracked me going up 150 flights in less than 4 miles. At the top we saw some mountain goats in the distance. It was beautiful up there.

Beautiful! Moderate hike, hard on some of the switchbacks and uphill parts (depending how much weight you’re carrying). Bring a lunch to eat on the lake with a gorgeous view. Definitely worth the hike!

Hiked 8/13.

Awesome hike and such a beautiful view. I definitely recommend swimming.

I got engaged by the lake when we got to the top. I’m pretty sure Andrew (from the comment below) took pictures of our proposal. The pictures are absolutely amazing! Thank you again, Andrew!

once a year we do this hike and it never disappoints.

Did the skyline trail on a busy Sunday morning but it didn't feel crowded. We managed to get parking in the main lot since we arrived early. At one point on the trail we could see the long lines of cars trying to find parking.

A moderate hike that was easily marked. Just arrive early!

Gorgeous. Moderate/intense because of the elevation but no climbing or anything which was good news for me!! Absolutely stunning views. I highly recommend!

Only hiked up to the first set of falls. It's pretty chill the first half and steep the second, but there is neat scenery between the beginning and end, from the rocky river bed with a view if Rainier to the falls and the creek. It does get rather steep but we saw kids, elderly people and people with babies hiking it as well.

Solid trail; 9,11 & 13yr old were able to finish. Great views. Much better in the AM

All uphill with a few straight aways...Its best to be in shape before taking this hike. Well worth the views! Real rocky watch your step. The jog down was nice

Hiked today, 8/15

I got up to the parking lot early, around 7:00am and was pleased to see the parking lot wasn’t busy at all. There were only two other hikers going up at the same time. I got to the top in 1 hr and 45 min. and my Garmin distance clocked it at 4.8 miles, so definitely a little longer than this distance says. Like a lot of other reviews, I’d say it’s more moderate than hard. There are some rocks you have to scramble over but it’s not too difficult. Weather was perfect in the morning. Views were blocked by the smoke from the fires but it was still beautiful. Highly recommend for a quick morning hike! Wish I would’ve kept going!

This hike is easy to moderate there are some steeper switchbacks but it’s not that hard and it’s in the shade. It’s pretty dry up until the last 2-3 miles then it gets more green the higher you go up and it’s very pretty. The view of the lake is amazing. I didn’t swim in it because I fear of dead bodies and sharks in all water lol. If you have a dog bring them because they will love swimming in the water there was two waterfalls and areas of water going on the trail so if your dog is thirsty that is a plus. Rocky in some areas and the tree roots are coming up in some of the trail so watch your step. Did see beat skat that everyone was talking about but saw no bears at all

Absolutely beautiful hike with glimmering alpine waters, jagged snowy mountain tops and fluffy mountain goats. Beginner hikers may find it difficult because of the length and the rocky incline. The road to the trail has MANY potholes so be prepared for a bumpy ride! Get there before 8 on weekends because it gets busy!

Best trail I’ve been on in the PNW.
Not heavily trafficked
Easy to make a day hike (right amount of challenge)but worth spending a night to really enjoy the incredible views.
This hike offered breathtaking and changing views the entire time.
It is very exposed so bring sunscreen/ protection.
We ran into mountain goats!

Was a very good trail to hike! Did get lost a couple times but ran into people who was able to get us to are destination! Would go agin very beautiful site to see!

The views along the trail were incredible, despite the smoke hanging in the air from the wildfires in the region which obscured some of the more distant mountains. The drive up from Icicle road has some amazing views and road is in good shape. Parking permit is $5. Took two and a half hours to reach the lake from the parking area. Didn’t encounter many bugs. Views at the lake were stunning, the water was brisk but refreshing; definitely worth bringing a bathing suit!

While enjoying the view I was unwittingly recruited to take photos for a lake-side proposal. He picked a great spot for it! I wish the happy couple all the best!

So stunning and so beautiful :) I have been hiking the entire summer and yet this one absolutely took my breath away. This hike is perfect in every way - you have a beautiful views and mountains and green valleys all the way through, you run into mountain goats along the way and then you have an incredible pay off at the end with a stunning lake tucked in between a gorgeous basin. And no bugs to bother you. What else could you want?

one of the nicest hikes I've discovered in the whole area. height 2 days ago very little bugs left campsites were full. Would love to have climbed over the Ridge from the lake and do a loop hike back to parking area. Should have actually done that after I seen on Google how easy it looked. we hiked with our dog up to the ridge 1 km before the lake and found a sign that said dogs were not allowed any further from that point. So be sure to research that

Great wild life. Flowers were in bloom. Trail was in good shape.

Definitely doable if you’re not fit but took longer with all the breaks. Be careful of stepping on shale. Poles help with this bit

Beautiful hike! Took about 3-4 hours in and out. Stopped a lot along the way to enjoy the views. Moderate incline going in. Good trail, rocky and rooty at the elevation. This was not a difficult hike but not for novices.
