A nice drive, with an emphasis on “drive”.

If you’re looking for a nice drive with okay scenery then look no further. On the contrary, if you’re hoping to off-road, there are offshoots (one of which is Holy Jim). Other than that, this is definitely an easy to moderate trail.

First time taking the lifted 4Runner out. No water in August, but some technical areas. No scraping of the vehicle. In 4 High most of the time, put it in 4 Low on one incline, and one decline. Took 2N75 back to Arrowhead to make a quick trip back to the house.

Awesome. Took this trail from Silverwood lake all the way to Lake Arrowhead. 4x4 might not be necessary, but to make it up some of the hills I would recommend a rear locking diff if you are traveling alone. High clearance is a must. The first half mile or so starting from Silverwood would be passable in a car (I saw 2 Hondas and a Ford Focus on the trail)... but after that, high clearance is needed for sure. SWEET views of the lake, and about 2/3 of the way through the trail, the whole scenery changes from high desert to forest. Tons of wildlife.. my first time seeing a fox in California. Highly recommend.

Got my first 4x4 (2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee-High Altitude). While still getting familiar with off-roading my buddy and I followed each other (up then down) 7 miles each direction. Had a blast!! Great views and a nice upward windy trail to the top where you can have lunch overlooking the valleys. Some partial spots w/ jagged rocks but nothing any all-terrain tire can’t handle. Did it in 4WD high the whole way, but the majority could be done in 2WD in a truck or SUV with good clearance. Unfortunately I still had the stock (non all-terrain) tires on that day (July 2018) , the jagged rocks took a few half-inch chunks out of my stock tires (265/50/20) so I upgraded them last week to the Nitto Terra Grappler G2’s (same size) and wow...what a difference! Went back on the same trail w/ my wife last week and had the confidence to tackle it with ease. She wasn’t as enthusiastic about the windy and bumpy trail as my friend and I were (ha!), but kudos to her for being a trooper. Fun trail, will do it again in the near future.

Pretty nice and easy trail some challenging areas but nothing for a Cherokee XJ, compared to last months Cleghorn run this was a piece of cake.

Good trail for beginners looking to get their feet wet with off-road adventures. I completed it in a stock 2018 Raptor. I used 4H just to give me a bit more stability, but it could have easily been done in 2WD. A truck this wide will get some pin striping and there are some tight turns but I didn't have any issues

The trail is not terribly challenging. You'll need more clearance than your typical car has, but any cross over should do just fine. RAV4's, CRV's, Ford Escapes, Subaru's shouldn't have a problem here, especially if you have AWD variants. There are protruding rocks and ruts so you'll want to mind your speed if you don't have a huge amount of ground clearance to avoid bottoming out. If you have something more capable like a SUV, Jeep or truck, you can carry a bit more speed without worrying about bottoming out.

There are virtually no side trails here, you get to a dead end and head back the way you came with no options to explore much of anything else. I personally find Otay Truck Trail quite a bit more enjoyable. It's longer, better views, and has tons of side trails, many of which can be pretty challenging.

Super simple trail, we went during July and no creak water crossing. Not a bad trail though, super easy didn’t even engage 4x. Lifted sequoia.

My husband and I are first time jeepers. This was definitely a fun one for us. There were a couple challenging parts but we did it just fine in our stock Rubicon.

Awesome trail, as easy or as challenging as you want with all the off shoots. The views are absolutely beautiful.

This trail is great for beginners. Very rocky at some points. The only thing I didnt like was all the bushes sticking out into the road. Got the side of my trucked scratched up pretty bad and it’s unavoidable. Also be careful lots of rattlesnakes

took my 2007 Nissan Titan 3 inch lift 35 only had to back up and change route ones due to trail conditions otherwise had little trouble going through the trail. manageable in a two-wheel drive if you have decent tires and ground clearance.

Was a perfect little trail, plenty of areas to explore and even let my sister drive my Jeep to try to off-road (now she wants one) trails are very clean, no graffiti or trash. The last little bit where you come to the water you can either park or if you have the clearance then you can drive down there as well. Even saw some wild trout down at the pond at the end.

Great hike to the top of Black Mountain. The trail has a consistent 15-20% grade with a few steep parts near the top. The trail is very exposed with scattered oak trees that offer a respite from the sun. The view at the top is excellent and a lone pine grove rewards you for making it to the top. Bring plenty of water in summer months.

Took the trail in my completely stock 2012 tacoma trd off road dropped into 4x4 hi but I feel like I didn’t really need too. Some minor ruts but I made it through with stock clearance. It was very rocky in some sections. Will be back again with a lift bigger tires and aired down just to take away from the rocky sections.

Had a fun time running this trail in my 2WD locked 4runner. Took about half the off-shoots, turned around on a few but still had a blast.

Took my 89 XJ down the trail and had no problems, just pick good lines because some of those ruts could leave you on your side or worse.

Great hike with great views. Watch out for ticks!!! Both my dogs and I had them. This would be best during the fall.

Today was my first time doing off road. I love this trail. I recommend it for beginners. Too much fun!!!

Great fun. Easy drive with a great view!

Great trail. I'm in a crosstrek, no lift, grabbers and had no issues. plenty of places to stop to recharge and take in the view. not just a flat grade, plenty of bumps and rocks

this trail is best when you do every single off shoot you see instead of the boring fire road. jeeps are able to take all the offshoot lines, which isn't hard if you already have off road experience. however, in a Toyota truck, or 4 runner, the hardest lines will definitely 3 wheel due to lack of articulation with IFS... unless you disconnect front sway bar. the only challenging portions are towards the end, which is also the best part to finish the trail. lockers are not needed here. I've been here twice and towards the end Toyota guys crowd up to watch the jeeps do the steep rutted off shoots. gotta love having a jeep!

Took the Subaru up to the top without any problems, any car with a high clearance will make it up easily. Great views from the top of the surrounding forest and lake. Trail had 2 heavy duty gates both of which were open, no signs to say when they may be closed. Likely closed when maintenance is done to the trail since it looked like there was work done near the top. Excellent for dirt bikes and trail running. Took us 2 hours of careful driving (

Just finished this trail on 4/28/18. loved it, I used my stock 2000 dodge dakota 5.9L V8 4x4 on this trail. So much fun will be doing it again! I have 32 inch tires on 15 inch wheels when I was doing this trail.

It was a really nice trail today. Not too tight with enough room to get around someone. The forest department has provided a very nice staging area off the 138 about 2.5 miles east of the 15fwy. On the 138 there's a forestry sign that says something about Cleghorn staging area next right. When you see the sign, they mean the next right!! A dirt road about 200 feet past the sign. We were towing a green sticker vehicle and were a little concerned when we saw a sign that said no green sticker vehicle on this road. But I guess the sign only referred to the.25 mile dirt road to the staging area. Trash cans and toilets at the staging area--very nice. My buddy and I only had one complaint---people will you please take your trash out with you!!! If you can carry in the beer cans, food wrappers, etc., you can certainly get your shit back home! I am a backpacker for 35 years but the body is having trouble carrying the load, so we're learning the off road experience. We brought one kitchen trash bag for our trash and whatever other trash we may have come across. Crap, we should have brought a dump truck. If we all can't start taking care of our off road areas, the government is just going to say, screw you guys, we're shutting it down!! Let's show a little concern for our wilderness!! Enjoy the drive!!!!

04/13/2018, hiked Los Pinos Peak Fire Lookout Tower from four corner, counterclockwise up to the peak and looped down via spur meadows, way trail, corral canyon trail and wrangler trail for 9.06 RT hiking mileage and 1,537 ft. elevation gains! Great view of Corte Madera Mt from the summit! I was surprised and disappointed to see lots trash of empty plastic water bottles and tuna and/or sardine cans! Good hike and passed mountain bikers and a few motor-cross bikers. Overall great hike!

Scenic trail

This was a great trail! The alternative routes add extra fun to the trail. I wouldn't recommend off shoot 8 which has an extremely steep incline. But 9, 10 and 11 are good. A fun trail for beginners and moderate off roaders.
