Went here today with 4 adults and three kids 2, 5, and 6. It was very muddy, wet, and slippery so poles and cleats probably would have helped, but we all made to the larch trees which were just gorgeous. We will definitely come back.

We were out on September 23. Beautiful trail, but muddy at the beginning. Once you get out of the forest the views are great. We did see a grizzly on the trail, from about 80 meters away. We had an air horn and a loud whistle which seemed to work. Didn’t need bear spray. Be prepared

Fantastic hike! Took about 2 hours round trip with a break for a quick lunch. The first 20 minutes or so were steep and wooded but then the trail opens up and flattens out. Well marked the whole way. The larches were golden and the views were incredible from the start. Well trafficked in September when we went, but not overly busy. Some families and dogs were on the trail. A bit slippery on the way down, so hiking poles would have been useful. I will definitely be coming back!

It was raining and starting to slick up so we didn’t go past the first falls. But what a great walk with kids on a cold and rainy Saturday.

Great hike. Easy to do, fun to explore. Great pay off. I definitely suggest continuing past the first falls. You can go in behind the upper falls and it has spectacular views. Not sure if there is a direct path but we wound up doing some unintentional rock climbing to get up there. Well worth it.

Very easy walk. Quite short. Pretty falls at the end.

Lost the sun at the lake in the mid-afternoon, so earlier the better if you want to hang out there for a while. Bring cleats cause of the recent snow near the top (which also made for muddy swampy conditions towards the end in some sections).

Nice, moderate hike. Not too busy during July! Worth a day trip to Peter Lougheed- you will more than likely see a mountain goat or two! Only complaint is that it wasn’t longer. This hike could easily be tacked on to another day hike while in the park.

Very easy hike- great for a family with small kids!

Gradual elevation gain pretty much the whole way but not too steep or strenuous - good cardio training. A lot of the forest floor is changing colour which was beautiful to see. Definitely worth the final push up to the second lake. It was a little chilly and started to snow so we didn’t hang around long. Whilst have a snack though we did hear a wolf / coyote howl that echoed around the bowl, that was incredible. Well trodden trail that was a little slippy when wet. On a hot sunny day it would be easy to spend an hour or two at the lakes

3h 46min return which was a fast pace. 18.23km

Great hike! We did it in the middle of winter and it was fairly slippery. We slid down on our bums the whole way back and it made for some amazing memories ;)

Great hike! Did it with 7 people and 1 dog and it took us 5 hrs. We did stop at the first and fourth lake for about 30 mins each though. Steady incline but has some down parts and flat parts to help break it up. Once you get to the first lake, stay right to get to the second, go right at the second then once you reach the third, stick to the left for a bit of an easier walk through the rocks around the lake. Then follow up behind the last lake to the fourth. 10/10 would do this one again! Lots of pika and we saw a mink as well! Not too many people, and lots of people were fishing in the lakes!

Such a beautiful hike! Not too hard to get up and such rewarding scenery. It was quite chilly and windy even in the middle of summer so bring a jacket in case. I will definitely be going back on this hike <3

Loved this hike! Great views, decent climb and some nice lakes to enjoy lunch by. There are 4 lakes total so keep trekking to see them all. Our favourite was the last lake, it was nice and quiet. We brought our dog and she loved it. I wouldn't recommend bringing smaller dogs as there are a lot of parts that require stepping over lots of rocks and little paws may get stuck. We saw Pika lots of and a Mink :)

beautiful trails! go the extra hike to the upper falls and explore! its much prettier up there and way less busy :)

This is a good hike with beautiful views. We ran into a grizzly 50 yards off the trail just as you leave the trees nearing the top of the hike. We saw another 3 on the west slopes of Mist Mountain (1000 yards away). Go prepared and make lots of noise!

Gorgeous! Colours are starting to change. Lots of people out yesterday. Short hike with amazing views. Steep ascend. Easy if fit but will still wind you. Take your time and enjoy. It’s short and spectacular!

Great hike but long. Get early start, no later than 10am imho.

Great short hike with the first km a steady slope but doable for most levels. Don’t rush it to the top as it is a fairly quick hike. Take a couple of rests and enjoy the beautiful scenery along the way. Highly recommend it in early fall as you can see a celebration of colors! At the end of the rocky path (after the second mini-waterfall) there is a very small remainder of a glacier which is nice to see.

Short, but has great views! Definitely worth the hour and a bit to do! If I had enough time I would have sat and ate lunch while taking in the views. I started hiking at about 8:50am, not many people to run into at this time, then by the time we started heading back the people started coming.

My go-to for a quick but rewarding trip if you have limited time.

good one to do this afternoon with my dog (hot day) as the path is the shade (treed) most of the way. we missed the trail head so had to back track a little. parked on the left near the powderface sign, hence missed the start as no signage of when to take the path to the left... its open and straight up! will do again, but when it's less smoky so can enjoy the view at top.

Great for meditation

Beautiful hike. Started up the prairie view trail, came down jewel pass. Harder going up, easier coming down. Amazing views from the top. Worth the hike for sure.

Amazing hike, we went up the mountain (prairie view trail) instead of the actual barrier lake trail. Very much worth it if you’re looking for a good workout. We went down jewel “something,” and it was a great time. The view at the end of the hike was something else.

Easy, beautiful hike.

Easy walk- I wouldn’t even call it a hike. I think anyone could do it. Nice forest views and the waterfall at the end was pretty. It’s a trail I would go running on.

The air was still a little smokey which dampened the view a bit. Great hike, good elevation, a little sketchy walking the ridge but the view is worth it! It was nice having bathrooms at the entrance of the hike as well.

Did this hike today 3 September 2018. Conveniently only an hour from Calgary. As others have said, you will drive past the trail head and park on your left in the little parking lot. Then you cross Highway 66 and walk towards your right, passing at least one other trail before you get to this one.

Arrived just after a heavy morning rain so there were not many people on the trail. A lot of the hike is through forest, emerging from time to time in the open air and then to a kind of open field at the top. No scrambling or scree towards the top just a pretty easy walk up to a beautiful view and a rock cairn with a flag planted in it. There was light snow on the ground in the trees starting at about halfway up the hill. There are some steep sections on the way up to test your cardio, but not too strenuous. I enjoyed walking through the forest parts but from the comments below I gather that is not for everyone. All in all I thought it was a great hike. Would do it again
