Went up 1/16. That first portion was all mud and ice.
Immediately used yak trax. I wore the trax the entire time. Mostly powder packed, mostly not slippery but occasionally.

Had to be more careful than usual going down the final scramble from the top due to melt on rocks.
If you’ve done this trail before, you’ll be fine.

Was a beautiful day today, trail was getting slushy and muddy. I wore Spikes but my friend did not, all up to comfort level. Great views from most parts of the trail!

Nice little Sunday hike. View at the top is incredible. Justin dropped his phone in a crevice but I saved the day with a long stick. Superb hike for when you want to sweat a little but not die completely.

did this yesterday (1/20) it was beautiful but so windy and cold at the top. I used my snowshoes up and spikes on the way down. the trail is packed enough that spikes and poles would be fine the whole way. great trail with nice views!

Absolutely perfect trail for having dogs off leash. Very dog friendly. It was a really windy day out but the trees blocked the wind for the most part. It’s a little confusing to find the trail head as it’s across the street from the main parking lot and separate from many of the trails. I would probably rate this as easy not moderate but would definitely do it again.

Great day hike from Denver! Used microspikes and that was perfect. Lots of beautiful views! Definitely more of a moderate trail in the winter.

Great trail close to Denver. Not very busy midweek during the day. Some good views of peaks, downtown and red rocks once you get on top.

Beautiful sunny day with snow capped mountains calls for a winter hike . I brought my four legged companion, new hiking boots, essential day pack, and a positive outlook to what was to come when I arrived in the parking lot. I went counterclockwise, and trekked up the icy , muddy mountain top first (realized that when I finished my loop route) please be careful as there’s a lot of black ice venturing upwards, especially in the shady parts of the trail when you curl around the mountain. It was very muddy throughout the beginning and near the end of the hike. Overall found some gorgeous gems, had a great workout for my physical body and a much needed adventure for my soul today . Out and back took 2 1/2hours . The last half hour was collecting rocks and sipping in the sights of downtown Denver whenever there was clearance through the forest . Ski poles are recommended even with waterproof winter hiking boots.

Did this hike on 1/11/19 after 6 inches of fresh snow (and still snowing) that morning. It was beautiful in the trees with all the snow. Can’t comment on the views because it was cloudy and snowing hard. Incline was tough with all the fresh snow, would recommend spikes!!

Hiked on a Sunday morning (1/13/19) after about 6 inches of snow on Friday. It was absolutely beautiful and we only saw two other people. Lots of snow so spikes are necessary for the incline. The last mile (the 0.5 out and back) was inaccessible because of the snow and the trail had not been cleared so you would need snowshoes for this portion. The loop had a semi cleared path though!

Did this hike on 1/15/2019 in the late afternoon. Still completely snow covered from 1/11 snowfall. We did not have spikes/yaktrax and still completed this hike with our dog with relative ease. Rather slick on the packed snow in places but overall made it up okay. Difficulty is moderate I would say especially with the packed snow. At the top there is rock scrambles to get to the views but it was worth it. Beautiful short hike with the snow cover. Good views at the top after the rock scramble.

I went hiking on Saturday January 12, 2019 and it was snow packed. It was beautiful and I had to use my hiking poles.

Trail nearly covered in snow except for a few areas... made for a fun hike. Should have brought trekking poles for better grip. Good views of Red Rocks. Fun hike for how close it is to the city.

Great views along the way.

Fresh snow but I made it most of the way with spikes and poles. Just follow the power lines - but be careful, parts of the lines were covered in snow. About a mile up the snow got deep enough I decided not to try going farther.

Beautiful covered in snow. Took my dog for a walk - can make it as short or as long as you’d like.

The trail wasn’t difficult, I didn’t love it but didn’t hate it. The view at the top isn’t great, it mainly blocked by trees. It was a good way to get outside and enjoy the outdoors!

perfect quick hike, and the views were great! microspikes were very helpful, and it is pretty windy at the top so bundle up!

Almost nothing but straight up and straight down the whole way. Just a few not too long flatter parts. I didn’t mind going up and didn’t find it too difficult. Going down was not so enjoyable, however. It took longer than anticipated having to be careful not to slip on the loose rock and dirt and by the end my legs were tired of the constant weight forced down on them with each step thanks to the steepness. I guess that’s why it’s rated difficult. My girlfriend who is afraid of heights was not a fan of the steepness, loose rock and dirt, and scrambling towards the top. Pretty extensive views of Denver, surrounding towns, and Rockies throughout, including 360 view at the peak, though honestly the view of the mountains at the peak wasn’t quite as beautiful as I was hoping. Some of the further peaks were covered by snow storm which may have affected that. Also FYI super windy as you go up. Little chilly at the top. I will probably try it again. No snow or ice as of today, 1/7.

Completed this hike on 1/6/2018 and it was the perfect mid afternoon hike. Not too hard, not too easy in some parts but overall, one of the best day hikes close to the Denver area. The first mile or so will require spikes/yaktrax just to help with the slipping of the snow but the last half mile is not covered and does not require traction. It is always windy at the top so if you plan on spending time up there this time of year, go prepared with some layers. Had an excellent view of the sun setting above Mt. Evans and it probably got better as it continued to set. Parking was easy as there was a lot of it in the designated pull off.

This is not an actual trail, but a social trail where you have to climb over a fence to get to it. Shouldn't be listed here.

Since it's not a planned and built trail, it can be difficult and dangerous in places where (as these types of trails cause) erosion is damaging the steep parts.

My first hike in Co. Easy trail and beautiful views! Fairly marked trail, not too much traffic too. Great place for pets too

Nice hike, well marked trail for the most part, beautiful views at the top. doesn't take more than a couple hours to complete the full trip!

It's a good workout with great views. NOTE.... the driving directions via Google maps is NOT the best way to go. Check another map source before you start the car.

Went for a sunrise hike and it was spectacular. 14er views for 1/5 the mileage. Started hiking at the trailhead at 6:15 and made it to the top by 7:10, about 10 min before sunrise(by myself, allow more time for a larger group) I would definitely recommend the early start, the white cap mountains were a burnt red before the sun came up, absolutely beautiful. Snow packed still, yak tracks or snow spikes were a great help, would be slipping the whole way down without them. Expect to be the only party on the trail if you go for the sunrise. “Parking lot” is on the right and the trailhead is off the road into the trees on the left as your driving from Denver. 1

Great Mountain for training.

Love love this trail as a quick hike but a hike that’s not so quick. The sceneries and nature tidbits are loaded within this hike as well. My dog loves this one so much!

Completed this hike with my family on 12/31/18. It was sub-zero temperature and snowing pretty heavily when we were out there but we thoroughly enjoyed the walk around a partially frozen creek with excellent photo op spots. We did not have much time on hour hands so this turned out to be a nice choice. We had snow boots with traction devices attached but I think we could have done it without them. Overall a relaxing and easy loop around the creek. We probably did a 1.5 mile loop and not the entire 11+ miles as listed here.
