This is probably my favorite trail in the entire park. This is like a giant playground. It feels exposed and if you are afraid of heights, this probably is one to stay away from ...but the views are amazing and worth it. It is a pretty easy hike and the payoff for the view is well worth the scramble. NO DOGS allowed on the trail for obvious reasons ...I don't want someone hurting their fur baby trying to get them up to the summit for a pic, there are plenty of other places for that in the park..

One of the best places for sunrise/sunset if your up to scrambling up and down the rocks.

Beautiful views on the blue trail! We got a little turned around at the white rock viewpoint but eventually found our way back to the trail. Would definitely hike this trail again!

This hike was more of a nature walk. My husband carried our son in his carrier and there were no issues at all. One stream crossing but crossed easily. Path is very wide, was slightly muddy but expected after a day of rain. Took about 1.5 hours to complete the loop. Lots of spurs off the main trail if you wanted to do more. Went on a Sunday and passed about 10 other groups.

It’s under an hour, but it’s a great hour. Rock scramble is fun, you’re inches from sheer cliff in a few spots, though. Can be crowded.

Bearfence is always a hike. Short and sweet with quite the view at the peak. It is challenging for those who do not like heights or are unsteady on their feet.

Short trail with some challenging rock scrambles, definitely not pet friendly, nice views

Fun trail between Key Bridge and Chain Bridge. It is overgrown and as you approach Chain Bridge it is very poorly marked. Does remind me of the Billy Goat Trail at times. Lots of rocks and creeks to cross. Beautiful views. We walked back to Key Bridge on the tow path.

Beautiful trails with dog friendly people

Nice spot for beginners like me, I try in the summer and mosquitos were in full force, will try fall and early winter to see how things go

We hiked the blue trail and it was a lovely hike!

Nice and flat. A few muddy spots and fallen trees (MTB obstacles). Good trail for intervals.

My favorite trail during my time in the park. Fun rock scramble at the end and a beautiful 360 view to top it all off.

Beautiful views. Peaceful place for the sunrise, quick rock scramble.

Nice variety of trail loops with same great views.

The trail is not maintained, overgrown vegetation in most of the trail areas where you can barely walk through it. The trail ends short about 3 miles due to fallen tree and now way to get to the other side unless you kayak through the waters. At the end I returned to my vehicle door crow barred at the top/failed attempt to break in my vehicle in the main parking lot. A lot of runners, kayaking, bikers. Seemed safe, just never know

real nice trail lots nice plant life it tends to have a bit too much foot traffic but other than that it's pretty good

This has to be one of the best value hikes in Shenandoah. The level of effort vs rewarding views is awesome! My 12yo son and I made this out first hike in Shenandoah and it was a perfect way to break-in to hiking. The trail was lightly trekked unlike Hawksbill or other popular trails that can get crowded. There is a fun little rock scramble and a false peak that is the perfect place to take in the views and a snack. It only took 30-45 minutes to summit at a relaxed pace and stops to take in different scenic or fun spots along the way. We did it on a hot and humid July day so I look forward to doing it in better weather in the fall.

Good trail, good view. But too many mosquitoes, and the markers are inapparent and confusing.

Great place

very nice trail, ample parking to be had. went on a sunday morning and the main area/main overlook was PACKED. if you want some time to yourself and pictures i suggest going off weekend. once you get out of the main overlook the trails are good and much less congested. the two overlooks in the back had no one there and i was able to eat lunch solo. sugarloaf also gets points for trail markers along the trails not just at the crossroads. that was a nice touch.

Beautiful nature but poorly marked blazes on parts of the blue trail. At one point we may not have been on the trail at all as the path was very overgrown and narrow on the east side of the mountain.

This humbled me! Totally worth it though. Rose River Falls was the hardest in my opinion. Definitely take advantage of the oppurtunity to rest at the bottom of Dark Hollow.

The 360 summit was everything. And I will quote my dear friend who went with me, "It's like we're in a picture." We stayed up in the summit and just sunbathe for an hour or so because we had already completed the trail. There was a cute grass clearing perfect for camping up ahead the summit too and the woodland sunflowers blooming everywhere was absolutely magical to me. We turned back around so we could enjoy the 360 view even more. A great trail to do before you take up Old Rag! Also stop by the huge rock that looks like a perfect shade if it's raining! But for me, it was more like a giant natural stone sofa! Will definitely take this trail on again when Autumn is here.

Good level of challenging, some steep parts but such a well made path it was no problem. Ample parking (with video security), free (with donations recommended), great views and different path options. Overall great hike!

A short trail, but don’t let that fool you into thinking this is an easy hike, it’s a scramble. Awesome views, must do.

Great hike. Fairly easy, but White Rocks( north and south) has scenic views. I will agree some of the markings(blazes) were difficult to see. My wife and I did lose the trail at one point. However, given this property is part of a foundation, I am very thankful we have access to it. Worth the hike.

We did both the Bearfence Trail and the Rock Scramble. We loved the rock scramble and the views from the top were outstanding. Definitely do the scramble. It’s not as hard as you think!

Awesome trail one of the best in the Fredericksburg area. Lots of different terrain and wildlife. Would be great for mountain biking. Long enough to give you a great work out yet easy enough to keep it fun.
