This is one of my favorite trails in LA! Beware there's little shade in the first part but this trail is incredible early in the morning. Ample parking and just difficult enough to get me into shape

Beautiful hike with shade, views, and a range of terrain and scenery. Great for a short hike on a lazy day to build an appetite.

Amazing views throughout and wide, well kept trails.

What a great hike that has all kinds of layers and adventures to it. I did the lower east loop that goes through a bunch of epic rock formations (great for rocking climbers), the former set of hit TV show M.A.S.H, and ends with the rock pool where people gather to swim and jump off mini cliffs in the wilderness. I could only imagine how this park looks when there is actually water in the Malibu creek, it was all dried up pretty much when I went except for the rock pool area.

Most of the trail is wide and flat for the most part making it very doable yet still a great workout since it's about 6-7 miles long (roundtrip).

just loved it! was perfect for walk and jog and sights were wonderful to see!

We started early at 6:45 AM and noticed a lot of cars park already. Coming from Los Leones Canyon entrance trail, it is 1.5 miles of narrow and relaxing hike with trail covered with trees. Then you will be exposed to open overlooking views of ocean and city and there is a bench for resting. Then the rest of your 2 mile trail to the Parker Mesa overlook will be wide and exposed with few inclines that will give you your cardio workout. The overlook is amazing and breathtaking on a clear day.

We loved this hike and did the full loop. I’m so glad for the other reviewers’ notes. We came prepared with a pen to fill out the parking fee form and the $4. We also arrived by 8:30 AM — there were two other cars in the parking lot (by the time we left there were about 6 cars). Unlike another reviewers notes, there are actually two parking lots, and it looks like they hold about 6-7 cars each.

There is a full-time resident ranger on the property, which is great. We also left no visible belongings in our vehicle to prevent any possible theft interest — you’re out in the wilderness and quite a ways from nearby rural-area homes, so someone would really have to go out of their way to drive up the meandering road to get to cars and break in.

The bathrooms are well maintained, compared to other California facilities.

We used the GPS continually from All Trails and were super glad to have it because there are many trails in the this area. From the get-go we started on the wrong trail, and the GPS reoriented us and kept us in the right spot. Thank you!

We found the trail to be fairly well maintained. There are some inclines that require some average fitness, but nothing too bad. And you do have to keep watching that you don’t stumble over a rock, because much of the trail has rocks that could trip you up. The scenery is fantastic!!! Highly recommend.

Beautiful easy hike. Loved the MASH set.

Great ride with views

Short, well maintained, well marked trail with great views of the San Gabriel Mountains and SGV. Perfect beginner hiking trail, also would be a fun beginning MTB trail.

a nice short hike with a view down to La Canada and Glendale and the Crescenta Valley and you can see Descanso Gardens. we did this hike about 4 months ago

love this place

Dogs are allowed but be aware there are coyotes. I was with my daughter and two dogs. A coyote came up behind us and I think he was eyeing the smaller dog. Be careful!!

Great hike for a Saturday! There is potential to make this hike up to 10+ miles. It was neat to see the old MASH filming site. Nice change of scenery throughout the hike. The earlier you go, the less people. The trail starts getting busy around 8:30. Highly recommended!

Very nice and clean trail. It was an easy trail, very little inclines. About 6.8 miles back and fourth trail. Connects to los Leones trail and got to see that beautiful ocean view. Hiked Labor Day 2018 at 12 pm, very little traffic. Perfect running trail for the way down.

Easy hike to do with the dogs. Easy parking. Limited shade so not good for the middle of the day!

Beautiful view

Great moderate hike for the whole family. Always nice to see the original M*A*S*H Site.

Like everyone else said, this hike has some pretty scenary but the end is a huge disappointment. I guess I should have read the reviews more carefully but you really just end up at a gate at the precipice of Malibu lake... So close, yet so far. Wish it would have ended up at the lake so I could check it out.

I would rate this as really easy. Mostly flat with one part that has a 10 minute incline you have to hike.

One way took me about an hour.

Very simple hike. Very little shade. Watch where you step

This is a pretty neat hike. There are a lot of different trails here, so just make sure you know which one you're going up. The trail to the far left is my favorite. It has plenty of shade, but it's a bit of an incline, particularly at the beginning. I've run into snakes here and they didn't make any noise, so always know where you're stepping.

Great hike but not a lot of shade on the way up. The incline isn’t too steep here, but when you factor in the heat it feels like the trail never ends. I would recommend going either early it be morning or later in the evening. I went at noon like a moron. Happy hiking!

When I went on this hike on July 14th, the trails were poorly maintained. So much of the grass and brush was overgrown that for 40% of the hike you’re walking on a path a foot wide, with plants scraping at you up to you waist. The trails are also not clearly marked. The trail has little shade as well. The view of the ocean is nice, but the majority of the hike is in overgrown grass, and this view could similarly been seen by driving to an overlook. I would avoid this hike.

The hike up from main Sycamore trail is heavily overgrown until you get out of the creek bed. Then it opens up. Did the entire Serrano loop back to Sycamore, then about three miles down the main trail to the campground.
Lots of spider webs across the trail on the way back down. Over 90 degrees up there today

This was one of the more scenic hikes I’ve done in LA. The views (on a clear day) are amazing and once you hit the peak you get a nice [reward] panoramic view of the shoreline and cityscape. I clocked in 7 miles from start to finish on this one. I would rate this as an easy to moderate hike. It’s an incline for most of the way up (not TOO steep but does give you a workout) but there are many parts of level ground. What makes it a bit more strenuous is the distance. The trail is exposed so bring hats, wear sunscreen and bring water. I went around 2pm and ran into hikers/bikers maybe every quarter mile or so, not too busy. Saw people coming up to the overlook point from different trails so assuming many other trails lead to this peak.

A few nice views of the Coast and Ocean. Not a lot of shade so make sure it is a cool day.

I'm laying here after hiking and I don't know if it's the sun or just taking the more challenging parts of trail but I'm tired... lol This is a nice hike. What I like about it is that it is challenging enough to hike/run without being disappointed that there were no ocean views because of the haze. There is no shade so be sure to stay hydrated or hike closer to sunset. This trail is dog-friendly so be on the lookout since some people some don't pick up after their dogs.

The fire road trail is wide and paved in a way that is versatile enough to hike/bike ride and have your dog off-leash. On this particular day it was kind of hazy so I didn't get the clearest views of the ocean but I read that in a clear day you can see to Catalina. Always be aware that not only are there lizards and snakes but also dog poop to watch for. Also know that some of the mountain bikers come down hill quickly so be alert.

This was my first time but I found out about it because I wanted a trail that was close enough that I could take the dog with he visits. I like that there is a parking lot but also adequate street parking. Respect the neighborhood and when you visit we shouldn't have to worry about permits when the lot is full.

With nice views, a versatile trail and being another gem on the west side I can say that I would recommend this trail for those looking for a little bit of a challenge. Stay hydrated.

This hike was awesome! Seriously there’s so many different trails I’d have to come back several times to try them all out. Bring plenty of water & have fun!

Great wide open paths in the beginning, Beautiful wildflowers, unmarked trail going back down, path narrow and overgrown, lots of bees and lizards. I would’ve been lost without the “AllTrails” map -super helpful
