Really long and tough. We were in good shape with two collegiate track athletes and it took us 10 hours. The rim is actually a bunch of up and downs with the final push going up 700’ at 30• and there is still 8 or 9 miles to go after that. Bring lots of water. There is none at the top. Views are beautiful. No wildlife.

Hike is easy for the first 3-4 miles and quite strenuous for the remaining few. Rocky, steep sections prove difficult, but the high mountain terrain, striking views, and fly fishing make the trip more than worth it.

12+ miles, not 11.4. But absolutely gorgeous! ! I will do this, again for sure.

Trail disappeared in the snow and mass of fallen trees near the top when I tried last October. Turned back without ever seeing the lakes but the hike was beautiful anyway. Trail split a few times with no markings. Lower part of the trail was clear. Be aware that weather at the trailhead and weather at the top can be very different.

Awesome hike! Last 1.5 miles is killer...pick your own way to go! Total round trip is 13.1 miles

Awesome hike. Took Moose Tracks to Bone Crusher then up. Bone Crusher ended but it's pretty obvious where to continue. Up to the tram station. There's been brutal fire around lately so because of smoke, I hitched a ride back with the tram (as seen on the route), then hiked the South Service Rd to the base for the sake of time. Do not do this if you're afraid of heights, have vertigo, or dislike shear drop offs on both sides of a fairly narrow trail. Coming down would have been brutal if not for the tram.

Beautiful, well maintained trail. Emerald Lake was gorgeous. Would do it again...

What a beast of a trail. I live at 300' elevation and decided to tackle this monster while visiting. I've hiked all the best trails in Virginia but this was better than all of them. Wasn't that hard to reach the saddle, but proceeding right to summit was incredibly difficult. It's nothing but loose rock or rock scrambles to the summit after the first several hundred feet. I definitely wouldn't have made it without two poles. I would be very cautious while attempting, I had nobody with me and took my sweet time to ascend. Two hours from trail head to saddle. Two hours to summit. Also, the beginning of the trail confused me, stay right instead of going left up the hill. Hopefully that'll make sense when you see it. Lastly, when you reach the saddle the trail goes to the helmet and quickly declines. Instead, find the stack of stones with a stick upright in the middle. There's a trail that puts you mostly half way to the summit.

Beautiful hike to Lake Louise. Moderately trafficked, well maintained trail. Total hike is 7.4 miles. Lots of nice campsites by the lake, we saw about 8 tents 7/29/17. Good fishing for Cut Throat trout.

Fairly easy to the saddle. Then steeper and trail a little less clear. Fabulous views in upper half. Some loose footing in upper third. Recommend one pole for top half.

Good hike. A little scrambling involved for 75 yds on ridge and towards the top due to steepness. Great views. Not recommended for dogs.

Hiking trails are great for an all around cardio-strengthening workout as you get a strong interval training on the short up and down hills.
Off and on shady and sunny.
The views aren't too shabby either.

One of my favorites.

Awesome hike with a beautiful lake. I ended summited Mount Jefferson and Hollowtop Mountain so I didn't spend too much time, but a beautiful area. Didn't see too many people while I was there.

Hike was extraordinary. Getting to the trailhead requires a 4 wheel drive vehicle with the clearance of a pickup or higher. Trail is easy to follow and terrain is easy enough even for young children to do. Lake offers spectacular shades of blue and is a must see

Steady hike. Tons of mosquitoes!

Lots of mosquitoes at the top so bring bug spray, but overall one of my most favorite hikes!

The trail information for this hike is out of date. The trail shown in the app is no longer being used and requires a wide creek crossing at the beginning. The new trailhead is 1/2 mile further up South Boulder Road #107 at Bismark Reservoir. The hike is closer to 8 miles out and back. The road is rutted and is peppered with rocks and boulders. High clearance vehicle is a must.

It's an amazing hike with incredible views!! I tried climbing up to the top of hollow top mountain from the lake,, but I only made it up about halfway till it was almost a vertical climb.. so I turned back!!

Full of snow right now. At least 7 miles are covered by multiple feet of snow. Lake is still frozen too. Gorgeous mountain views on the way.

Great trail, beautiful scenery and views.
Encountered snow on trail that required a turnaround about 3 miles into the lakes.
Nice steady grade, a few fallen trees across the trail but pretty easy to get around. A little concentration required crossing the creek around the 2 mile mark.
Nice May Sunday for a hike.

From big horn peak to shelf lake there are some pretty crazy drops. The views are absolutely insane.

Pros: Pioneer Falls and Creek, beautiful scenery through Flying D Ranch access road, moderate grades
Cons: Heavily used horse trail, horse droppings
