For 25 years, the Trails Challenge has been designed to get you outdoors, exploring on your own, with friends, or with loved ones. This year’s Trails Challenge highlights 20 of our most interesting parks and unique trails for all abilities. We have included easy, moderate, and difficult routes, leading hikers to scenic destinations through a variety of parklands. We’ve also included information about special features in the selected parks. Keep in mind you can use any trail route to complete the Challenge, not just those listed in this year’s Guidebook, by exploring at least five trails or 26.2 miles (the distance of a marathon). Be sure to visit our 2018 Trails Challenge Web Page at ebparks.org.

Lovely views of the lake! Not a difficult hike at all. I I added on the Ten Hills Trail along the Golf Course to connect to East Shore and skipped the Cameron Loop connector to make my hike 5 miles. More paved route than I prefer but this hike was a good way to get out and avoid some of the smoke that is blanketing the Bay Area. It was pretty busy with fisherman, hikers, bikers, runners. Seems like a lot of people had the same idea of trying to stay active in the smoke.

Great place in the middle of city! Lots of cows and people. Some inclines to start and finished through the woods. Great view of the city! There is a portion of pavement which is my least favorite but on this route, it’s minimal.

I do this trip often. Its a good wide trail, good incline and lots of cows to see!

Sunday 10/28/18
Arrived at the trailhead at 7:30am. Gate does not open till 8am so we parked down the road and walked in. It's almost 1.5 miles from there to the top. Great hill to work your legs and get warmed up. Only passed a few people at the top of the ridge. Super clear day, views of Mt. Diablo were amazing and we could see the Salesforce Tower poking out of the clouds in San Francisco in the other direction. Lot of birds, seen about five Retail Hawks. Great hike with few people. Great Sunday morning escape.

Did this hike today with my husband and mom. None of us are avid hikers but the hike was the perfect length with just enough hills to make us feel like were getting in our workout.

Pretty nice hike. The last 2 miles up the Raven trail were tough (16-20%) grade, but the 360 deg. view at the top was incredible. Saw some mule deer.

Hiked this trail a few weeks ago. Went on a weekday afternoon. It was a bit crowded but fun.

Take the loop clockwise for the best views. Take it counter clockwise for more gradual inclines. Overall this is a nice hike, a scaled down version of some of the more demanding, more beautiful hikes in the Bay Area.

I only hike once a week and I felt this hike should be rated as moderate instead of hard. It starts of with several inclines for the first 2 miles after that it’s pretty easy. What I like about the hike is there are 2 caves you get to see on the way, as well as an amazing panoramic view of the city that no photo can explain. The trail does get narrow at times. Can be difficult for pets and young kids.

Awesome trail! Went there for the first time with family. Both my 5 yr old and 70yr old were well entertained. Of course we enjoyed too, nice views the rocks and caves were fun.. sad that we didn’t had too much time. And in hindsight we should have planned for a half or full day picnic. We will be coming back for sure.

Very enjoyable! Took my 68+ uncles and aunt here and they completed it with ease. We actually did the whole loop it was about 4 miles total. Awesome photo op at the peak of the hill.

Took 2 dogs and was a challenging hike with steep hills. Wide paths and clearly mark. Shady tree landscape. Would do again

I went in the evening and it was a great trail. I can imagine that it might get hot during the daytime. I was a bit surprised how much dog poop was on the trail. Wish folks did a better job picking up after their pups.

good trail, mostly covered by trees which was a huge plus when hiking in summer. the trail has some character to it, mix of hard bush, open grassland, Rocky scrambles and some scenic outlooks. the view from top of cordorouy hills was great. overall it's a moderate climb with no section particularly straining you. started early at 7 and finished before 11. there are areas with cattle but mostly it's isolated. good number of local hikers too. overall I would look towards coming back sometime in winter

simple pastoral trail typical of the East Bay hills. nothing particularly impressive. the day was beautiful and clear skies made for a picturesque hike.

Great for kids and exploring

Cows are the best part of this hike, and the view of the city.

Great hike, amazing old groves of blue, valley and live oaks. Tons of deer, a striped skunk and even a feral pig (scary). Crystal clear view of Mt. Diablo.

Simple straightforward trail hike and easily manageable. Had an 830am start and ended in time for lunch in downtown Danville. Beautiful view and weather was sunny 75F.

This trail appeared shorter than advertised. The start of the trail is not well marked so it’s difficult to find the trailhead although once underway all other intersecting trails were readily identifiable. The flush toilets at the parking area were a definite plus. I would rate this trail as easy and not moderate.

What a view! This hike gives you a little bit of all the trail types, wide, single track, over grown brush and a nice mix of shade and no shade. The cows were overprotective of their young today and at one point, we had to find an alternate route around the cows. One even chased us for a few second as it had been spooked by someone’s else dog that was not on a leash.

Eagle View was definitely overgrown and scratchy with a steep cliff off the side. Would not want to do this trial if wet.

Only confusing part was at the intersection of Canyon View and McCorkle, go to the left of the tree to head back to the park headquarters. The path looks like it disappears due to the cow prints but it picks up right after.

We saw a group of Elk when we were leaving the park!

Will do this again!

cool flat place to hike

Pay for a fee to hike. You can create your own if you dont like the app suggestions. Go here when its a little cooler. Not a lot of shade and it gets hot. Some areas are highly traffic trail but some are not.

What can I say about this hike? Amazing views, history and elevation galore! Will do it again!

Long enough and ends in a lake where you can buy things from a shop and swim
