parking wasn't bad. the trail was fairly easy at the beginning. starts to get a slight incline a bit later but overall was an easy and relaxing hike. The way back is worse though because its mostly up hill. Seeing the old kiln is cool and if you hike past that for a mile is the river which you can eventually go down to if you want. The path to the river is a bit narrow so be careful. I'd go again. I went during the week in the early afternoon.

Nice work out due to terrain but easy to get lost. If you're a bird watcher you would probably enjoy this trail. We saw a downy woodpecker, two pileated woodpeckers and a barred owl. Next time I would bring binoculars as the forest area is thick so its difficult to find many of the birds. Trail signs would be helpful.

Fun hike close to home. There were some steep hills that work your calves. We took our dogs and ran into quite a few people with dogs. Started this hike about 2 and it was moderately populated. There was a little bit of water in the waterfall.

So nice to meander along the Coal Creek looking for little babbling smallerfalls and enjoying the coolness of the little valley. Up to Primrose Loop and back to the main path is nice to get an out-of-city experience in the shade, while staying within the city limits. Bonus points for the gorgeous and plentiful creek bridges all smelling freshly of oil and pine:

Decent view, nice hike

Trail is ok..make sure to put on bug spray lots of mosquitos all through out the trail.

Much of the trail follows a beautiful stream through relatively dense woods and ferns. The trail is both long and attractive, especially considering its proximity to the city.

great walk with the dog definitely had some switchbacks but I was able to make it without a problem

Good for a morning walk with a buddy! A little anti-climatic at the turn around, but interpretive signs were pretty interesting. I’d do it again.

Very much enjoyed the hike by far the best is the second mile and 1/2 past the warning signs there's some nice spots in the river to be able to swim and the tunnels were pretty amazing!

The trail is clean and easy but people leave their trash there. There was a pile of trash by a tree. Diapers, cigaret butts and bags of dog poop everywhere. What is going on?

Beautiful forested path along a creek. Some elevation. Dog friendly.

Coal Creek - Red Town Hike. It’s Good. You can walk or run (almost) through the entire trail. Half of the trail runs by the side of the creek. It’s serene.
Without rain there is little water at this point, but it’s still beautiful. Reasonable amount of Parking space down at Coal Creek Parkway. Kids friendly, Dog friendly.

nice trail, good historical markers telling history of the coal mining that went on at the trail location.

Nice easy hike. Great for trail running. Mostly shaded from the sun. Hikers and runners be alert. A Cougar and kittens were seen a few days ago. The cougars were seen in the northernmost section of the park near Coal Creek Parkway SE and 119th Avenue SE off of I-405.

I really enjoyed this trail! It was well kept after and the dogs and I liked the little bit of trial you could walk through the water. It was their first time in water and once we got to the little waterfall they didn’t seem to mind. Nice, quiet and not heavily trafficked on the weekend we went. We also sort of happened luckily upon the little waterfall, we had no idea because the trial markings weren’t the best that we were coming up onto it.

Beautiful hike but too much garbage once you get to the waterfall.

Gave it a 4* rating for convenience to escape the hustle and bustle of the city

This is a pretty area to walk through and is relatively flat throughout. Parts of the trail don’t have tree coverage, so it does get warm. There are a ton of mosquitoes on this trail! I rarely get mosquito bites, but I spent the whole walk trying to brush mosquitoes off of my husband and he still ended up with quite a few bites.

Beautiful woodsy and easy hike! I loved the river spot! Sometimes you just don't want to climb 3,000 feet!

Parking was definitely a challenge. First visit on this trail. It was scenic and nice, several spots could have been wrong turns but we found our way. Not muddy at all today! Many families with small children, some thought it was a bit far to carry toddlers.

Great trail a few places not marked so well but loved the hike

Easy trail with some hills and plenty of offshoots that give your dog lots of access to splash around in the creek. I never did catch the smell of coal.

loved the view and historic feel of a piece of Washington's past of the railroad

nice walk to the old kiln and nice good cold swim at the river! but warmer than lake 22

Great waterfall hike with lots of wildflowers.

super easy. great with the kids

Great hike! Brought a couple of dogs and they loved it. Especially the extra hike to the water. It was pretty easy overall. Some parts are pretty narrow and we got eaten by mosquitos. But it was very pretty!
