Beautiful hike! Snowing the day I did it, microspikes came in handy.

We went Nov 3, 2018 and the trail was snowy but doable without spikes. We were visiting for the weekend and it was very easy and had no issues with the altitude difference.

Great hike and view that you won’t regret trekking too

I've done this trail many times, but most recently hiked yesterday (11/7/18). It was all snow covered but packed down marking a clear path. Many people went without spikes, but it did make it easier having them from Dream to Emerald where it got a little steeper. The road up to Bear Lake is icy/snow covered but doable in a 2 wheel drive if you go slow.

Great trail!

I went sunday, 11/11/18. The final 0.6 miles of road was closed so the whole hike is about 9 miles round trip. It was absolutely gorgeous, it was snowing when I went, wasn't too bad till you get past Fern Falls, then it was about a foot of unpacked snow. If it's fresh snow, I'd recommend taking snowshoes, tho not completely necessary, I went in trailrunners and the whole thing was about 3 1/2 hours round trip, tho I may hike faster than average, I'd plan for probably 4 1/2 to 5 hours. Highly recommend it, especially in the snow, if possible, get the lodge at Fern Lake, that would be absolutely amazing to wake up to that!

View at the top is flamesssss. Traversed up here because I heard there is a dope view of the continental divide as well as the YMCA. Smoked a fat bowl at the top and chilled with some Blue Jays, amazing time. Wore some spikes for this run but could have done without; they did help getting back down the mountain rapidly in the snow as dusk approached.

Super doke lake, one of the most beautiful someone I meet on the trail said. Once I arrived I was in agreement with him on several accounts.

super great trail! Would definitely recommend snow shoes or at least spikes on your boots though. I just had my yaks on and I sunk a couple times but overall gorgeous hike especially with snow and I will be going back.

great hike! be sure to wear layers as it is extremely windy at the top by the lake. few patches of ice

Great there and back walk on a great path - was snowing on the way out, sunny and clear on the way back - great views. Starts at 9000ft above sea level but we were fine

Great trail. My family and I hiked it in July. Still snow on the ground in places. Beautiful views. Bring a camera and a water bottle.

Hiked this trail 10/26/18. If you’re looking for a nice, easy and scenic hike this is the place. Every corner you turn is picture worthy. At the time the lakes were partially frozen over. The closer you got to Emerald Lake the more slippery the trail got. I didn’t need crampons but I’m sure now you’ll need them. 10/10 hike it’s a must see.

Definitely a hike you should go on when you’re in the rocky! The views are amazing! The hike was not too difficult, but it will get crowded towards the day! Overall amazing place to explore!

Definitely need showshoes. We made it about halfway before blowing snow and gusts made us turn back. That was right when the trail was no longer distinguishable at 10,400. Can’t wait to try it again when the weather is better.

Beautiful hike on 11/04/18. I was actually the first on the trail in the morning as it was snowing and got to make the first tracks which was great. It was the perfect distance for me and the summit was gorgeous and so fun to see over Estes and RoMo. Would do this hike again!

went in the snow early November and it was so so so cool to see the Loch like it was. super worth the hike but be careful! trail was pretty icy at some parts

Hiked 11/2/18. Lots of snow and wind chill, but overall awesome hike. Hiked in my hiking shoes + poles without spikes and was just fine. All the lakes are frozen which makes for gorgeous photos!

I hiked to emerald lake on 11/1/18 and it was a snowy wonderland! I am glad I had micro spikes because it was slick in spots but with the spikes it was not a problem. I started hiking around 9:30 and only 4 couples were in front of me hiking. As I came down there were many more people. It was nice to have the Trail mostly to myself on the hike up so I could enjoy the views uninterrupted. I am not a hiker and came from sea-level the evening before and I could certainly tell my lungs were adjusting to the altitude. I did the the whole hike and 1x around bear lake in just under 2 hours.

Fun trail. Great views, scramble up the back side of gem wall of you're comfortable for a stunning 360 degree view.

Hiked to Loch Lake yesterday. We were on the trail at 7:30am. We like to get up early to beat the crowds and always get a great parking space. The trail was great, only icy in spots. So I definitely recommend bringing your traction devices. You will need them. It was cold and very windy at the lake. It is about 2/3 iced over but still very thin. Dress in layers.

Phenomenal. Parking is the only drawback.

Beautiful hike. Went up to Fern Lake and Spruce Lake today (10/28/18) total time about 5 hours. There was still parking at the trailhead at 10:45am. Trail conditions were good. No ice or snow on the trail up to fern lake. The trail from fern to spruce can be tough to follow at a few points so pay attention. There was a little snow on this portion but I never had to use spikes. Neither trail nor lake was crowded at all—perfect peaceful solitude for a final summer hike.

Amazing opportunity for incredible views with not that much effort. If you have time head to Lake Haiyaha. Its well worth it. (Review for Lake Haiyaha and Emerald Lake Trail). I got to Bear Lake trailhead at 8am Sunday. Very few cars. I had the whole trail to myself pretty much. I did Emerald Lake and then on the way back turned and headed to Lake Haiyaha. I'm glad I did because it was the best part. Its steeper and harder then Bear Lake trail. At the end there are a bunch of boulders to scramble over to get to the lake. Be careful, I fell, snow is deep and make sure you know how to get back to the trail. Its not as easy as it looks. Really incredible. Wear traction. Wear traction. When I came down the whole lot was full and there was a mile long line of cars trying to get in but they were routed to the visitor center.

Beautiful hike!! Rent shoe spikes and poles at a local hiking store in town or bring a walking stick at least. Parts of this trail are SLICK ice. I’d rate this trail as moderate. I could definitely feel the elevation climb! Well worth your time. We got there at 930 on Saturday with a few parking spots left. By the time we left at noon parking lot was full/closed.

This is one of the most popular trails in Colorado and for good reason! If you go on the weekend it will be tricky to find a parking spot. This is a moderate hike with huge rewards, stunning views!! If you only have time for one hike in CO do this one or st Mary’s Glacier.

This is a great hike! Alberta Falls was cool. We decided to continue on to Mills Lake. This portion of the trail got really slippery in parts. Poles or spikes would’ve been nice. The Lake was absolutely gorgeous. Definitely worth the hike. Coming back down, we saw a moose just a few yards off the trail. I highly recommend this hike.

Great hike with great views! Each lake was spectacular. There is ice/snow packed in certain spots. We rented spikes and poles from a shop in Estes Park for $9 for the day...I would definitely recommend it!

Beautiful views!!

Beautiful views at each lake. Still icy in patches but so worth it!
