Can feel like one long slog. Best as an overnight backpack. Have used the route to Sylvia several times over the past 20 years as a tuneup for long high altitude climb approaches. Dog poop can be problematic so watch your step.

very decent, not so steep hike. awesome forest. took us 4 hours

First mile or two is completely uphill and is unforgiving if you're out of shape like myself, so just be prepared. After uphill you head through a redwood forest, then out into the open for some amazing, absolutely unforgettable vistas.

Amazing views, great trail. We hiked this from Carson pass and it was about 12-14 miles total. Even in the middle of summer, there were snow here and there and it got pretty cold at night. During the day it was great and people were coming up to fish in the lake. Beautiful spot, we will be going back

9.6 mike loop. Awesome trail.

Nice hike. Some of the trail could be marked a little clearer. This one had enjoyable views and the dog enjoyed the water. The drive up to the trailhead is steep so drive slow!

Great hike. Just be prepared that parts of the trail aren’t clearly marked, so using GPS can be very helpful.

hiked back to granite lake which was nice, didn't know there are leeches in the lake. not harmful, just not expected while swimming

great hike but the main road is currently closed due to excavation (see pic). I drove up the road to the museum and down to Jamison Campground. Head towards the back, you'll hear the river, and near site 53 is a bridge that will take you to a smaller bridge and you'll end up at Jamison Mine and the trailhead. You will immediately begin a rocky climb and numerous rock steps. it was icy in the campground and small sections here. spotty snow along the trail to Grass Lake and Little Jamison Falls. there is snow melt and a 30 yard section with an inch or two of running water along the lake. it opens up to a short sections a large trees then a snow field and up again through switchbacks, snow from 4-9" and to a rock cliff section overlooking Jamison Lake. there were quite a few footprints until the last section. I saw one young trailrunner and then a fit older couple trail running midway and had the trail to myself the rest of the time. Happy hiking!!

First time out with snow shoes. Didn't make it to the top as trail was cut into steep ravine and snowed over completely. Still had a blast and was pretty.

great hike

Take the upper Trail to the top. Lower Trail is a dirt road.

It was still a bit snowy and slippery when I went in mid July so be prepared

I LOVE this hike. Although it's 10+ miles, it does not feel terrible. The ground is not nearly as rough as some other peaks (Mt. Tallac, for example), and the vegetation reaches higher up in elevation as well.

Great hike during the week but too many hikers on the weekend. Fairly easy until the final hike up Mt Rose proper. Take a jacket-the top can get chilly. Great hike and views if the fog is off the top and no smoke is in the area. My pedometer said 10.7 round trip two times in a row.

Nice day hike not too far from Sacramento. Easy grade throughout the hike, until just before reaching Lyons Lake. The trail up to the lake is steep but short and the lake was spectacular. We had the trail to ourselves for the entire ten mile out and back in mid week in early October. This trail appears like it would be pretty soupy early in the season, so one probably more enjoyable for most later in the season.

Great hike, gets pretty cold in the shade and especially at the summit with all the wind. Recommend something to cover face towards the summit.

With every step you take on this trail you are lead to heaven ! A little over 10 miles and 6.5 hours . One foot in front of the other ! Trail is clear with little to no snow. Till next year Rose....

Another amazing trip with the boys and dog! Great hike for intermediate explorer

I enjoyed this hike. I kept track of distance on my Fitbit and it said it was 10.6 miles. For the most part it’s a easy walk. Be prepared for the switch backs. Parts of the trail are a little confusing, but great scenery!

Very nice to have a trail which is easy to follow. Be prepared for very little net elevation gain during the first 2.5 miles.

My 10-year-old daughter and I conquered this hike today. It was beautiful. The snow is not bad, you just have to go a bit slow in a few places.

Great trail.

Snow the entire way, on the way back was starting to become muddy slush from all the people who had started up after us and rising temperatures. Unable to see anything at summit due to fog/ clouds. Very cold and windy and much more challenging in the snow. . Took us 7 hours to complete. Apple watch (with gps) said 10.72 miles.

My garmin watch says 12 miles round trip. We hike this last Saturday. The trail was covered by the snow all the way to summit. It was Freezing cold, windy, cloudy and foggy, when we reached the summit. Definitely a great and memorable experienced.

We would rate this as poorly marked Trail. Even with all trails we got way off course and basically made it up as we went. Beautiful area for kayaking. Wouldn’t hike it again though.
