beutiful this place

We started on the Visitor Center Loop, headed down towards the river, then back up, across Father Junipero Serra Drive to the start of this trail (one could go past the gate and park near the trailhead). The trail was well-maintained. Nice shade spot at Orange Cube Rock. Continue up some small switchbacks to rock climbing area at top. We were too tired (and hot) to try the rocks! Nice views!

Did this one as a loop. Hiked the Ho Chi Minh trail from the gliderport down to the beach, walked north on the beach to this trail, and then back up to the gliderport. Very cool & rugged sandstone canyons, caves, lagoons, and waterfalls. Highly recommend!

trail running

This is my twice weekly trail run so I'm biased. Just don't sprint and slow down around the many corners (to avoid running into small children) and you'll be fine. Make sure you don't stop at the trail end and go all the way around the lake. Find the stone spillway and the "new" bridge; bonus points if there is a wedding photographer there. Don't forget the " danger exercise sort of trail" or the Forgotten Splinter Pyramid or the I Can't Believe They Built This For Kids in the 80s Fort right next to it. There's also a little trail that heads up from near the Pyramid to split the nature trail if you only feel like a 5 minute walk.

Probably the most scenic hike in San Diego with breathtaking views of the ocean and cliffs. We went with some friends visiting from New Jersey and everybody really enjoyed it. There are some fun side trails that offer different perspectives so I would definitely recommend doing some of them.

the GPS coordinates for the trailhead through Google Maps take you to a gated community. look for another access point.

breath-taking views! Hike was a little too easy, but nice for sight seeing.

Not long trails but beautiful cliffside views

Beautiful hike which leads to the beach. Very easy but very crowded with tons of tourist.

Good Walk!

We hiked this trail on a really beautiful Saturday afternoon, and were very thankful for he clouds that rolled in since it’s in the full sun. We were the only people on the trail except for one other man we saw at the trail head once we were ending.
The view at the top is great, especially for being so close to Poway.
This trail is not well kept past the first quarter of a mile. Overgrown brush makes the trail very skinny at many parts, including the very steep parts. It appears that much of the trail is directly where water runs off when it rains, so the path condition is not always the smoothest.
As many other reviews state, there are a lot of unmarked off shoots. If you use the GPS recording feature on this app it’s not too hard to pick the right way.
Overall, a great hike for some quick, but intense exercise. The incline and the view makes this under 2 mile hike worth the trouble.

Very scenic

Very short but very fun!

Id rate this trail as easy although there were short sections that were steep and rocky. But those sections are too short to make this trail above and easy rating.

It was a Quiet but came across 30 people and 5 dogs. It was busy. Trail is mostly cleared and all of it can be ridden. Short vertical section on the west side. This is NOT lake Jennings. The map is clear what is what if you take the time to study it.

Great hike for a family Vista in San Diego. This was a great half day activity during our vacation. Not too difficult, great scenery, and minimal preparation required.

on Ho Chi Minh Trail

This is a pretty fun trail but can be tough if the sand is dry and slippery

Yes Black’s Beach is clothing optional so be prepared to see some unflattering views if you know what I mean. Where’s all the sexy athletic people when there’s a nude beach?!?! Lol but the views are amazing, watching the gliders catching wind, seeing the squirrels along the way also.

There’s naked people on the beach when you make it down there! Lol, I didn’t know I was hiking to a nude beach. Mostly men of course....anyway.... yes it’s very challenging and yes the locals go barefoot and say it’s safer. Awesome sandstone washouts and a rope to get you down the last 50. Head north on the beach and take the stairs back up, then head south along the ridge to get back to the original starting point.

Parked in the lower lot not knowing there is a 2nd lot up top. No big deal but we were short on time having to catch a flight so would have preferred doing more on top then schlepping up the Park Road. All was good though as we took in the Scripps Overlook then went down to Razor Point vea the Butte. Traversed over to Yucca Point which was great too then returned via the West Overlook and the Park Road. I guess I wasn't thinking straight since we could have gone down the Beach Trail and returned via the beach in probably the same time. Oh well, will be back to this park at some point to finish things up!!

Arrived at 8:30 AM and paid our $15 at the ranger station. Watch out for walkers on the road up to the upper lot. For a weekend morning, there were only 2 other cars in the upper lot. The restrooms were out of order, so they have several portable toilets set up. The trails were moderately crowded when we started, and very crowded by the time we finished. Weather and views were beautiful. On our way back to the trail head we saw signs for rattlesnakes - luckily we did not see any. After our hike we visited the small nature center. Watch out for even more walkers on the road on the way down. Luckily we found a spot in the lower lot to use the flush toilets and explore the beach. There's also a picnic area with shaded tables.

Did this trail with a local RSF resident who showed me how you can go for much of the way on a "secret path" along the West Side of the river before eventually crossing through the river (literally!) over to the East Side as shown on the map. Great scenery, I liked this hike a lot.

We went all the way to Lake Hodges so further than shown here. Mostly flat but a few slight uphill portions, I recommend this hike.

This should be the second part of the Coast to Crest after the initial part from the coast.

Beautiful views. But very steep at times. Wear hiking shoes and bring a hiking stick for balance. The water seems to have washed out a lot of the area so you are climbing rocks most of the time going up. When you come down you are also sliding down rocks. I wouldn’t say this is moderate the whole time parts are hard if you don’t hike.

Crossed paths with a rattlesnake on razor trail last week

Shortcuts to black’s beach

Great trail with awesome views! Easy & quick, but if you go towards the Tide-pools you'll extend the hike & discover marine life. It's adjacent to the Torrey Pines gliders, which you'll see gliding above you throughout your Hike. Depending on the season, you'll stumble onto a *nude* beach ;)

No dogs allowed. Was disappointed about that!
