on Chester Lake Trail

Very easy to find the trail head, with designated parking/ washrooms. Many different choices of trails, from walking, snowshoeing, cross country skiing. It was a fairly easy hike up, I had beginners with me that were OK with the occasional break. The view when you get to the lake is beautiful. One of my favourite parts about this hike was the Gray Jays, if you do not like birds I highly recommend not sticking your arms/ hands out. They are very friendly.

We had snow shoes on, did not need them as the trail was well packed.

Super easy trail - it’s perfect for a late afternoon if you want to get out of the city and see some nice scenery. Its perfect for dogs too I took my male dog and hiked up to the hoodoo and back. This area can get busy so it’s best to go at a later time in the day.

We just did Chester Lake today with our 8-year old dog. It was an awesome hike! The views are beautiful and the hike is very doable. Gets the heart pumping a little on the way to the hike, but levels out quickly and it’s quite easy to the lake.
We will definitely be doing this hike again!

NAFTA and dairy quota talks aside;Trump and Trudeau supporters alike would find this hike enjoyable. It is an easy to moderate hike; we went well past the waterfall and saw some gorgeous boulders in the creek. There was a RC car group driving their toys on the rocks, for whatever reason. One and done for me.

Nice views at the lake, easy hike with slow graduation. I would rate this as heavily trafficked.

So convenient from Canmore, but a respectable hike. Great views without all that much effort. The "more difficult" trail could be pretty dicey if there's ice.

I loved this hike through the snow. The fir trees were beautifully outlined in snow and the larch trees were still a bright yellow on Oct 7th. Once we made it to Chester Lake, we took a break and watched the river as it began to freeze over. Chipmunks were playing in holes in the snow, and a few other people were enjoying the views and sliding ice across the lake with the snowy mountain backdrop. Another one of my favourite parts of the trip was that we saw so much wildlife. We must have seen about 20 big horn sheep on the road as we passed through Peter Lougheed Provincial Park, and at the end of our trip, we saw a moose licking salt off of someone’s truck in the parking lot. A guy near us said he lives in the area and hadn’t seen a moose in 25 years so I felt pretty lucky since I only moved to Canada a few months ago. One of the best days on record for me.

Favourite lake in Banff!! ❤️

5 starts for the lake itself but too crowded for my liking.

One of my personal favourite spots! Nature at its best! Hike was easy and rock climb was a fun challenge. We started this trail early evening and basically had it all to ourselves. Love. Love. Love. Would 100% recommend.

Great first hike heading into Banff. Beautiful views and waterfall was amazing too.

Easy hike but we had spikes and we were happy we did as many people were slipping on the way down. Second lake is closed but it’s still worth seeing the first. A good hike to start with!

If there is one must do hike in the Canadian Rockies .. must be this one for the view .. easy, short, breathtaking view!!

Recommend the “more difficult” trail, if you like to see a wonderful village view and a surprisingly pleasant fall which is surrounded by snow. The “More difficult” option is not difficult at all, but you may want to use something like crampons for the snow season just to prevent slips.

Great little hike in the snow . Beautiful on a sunny day with trees filled with snow.Much of it is in the forest

Very pretty view of Peyto Lake right after the snow storm. Please wear the proper gear as we saw people slipping all over the place. Take the trek up to the left to view beautiful snow covered forests.

easy walk to the top

Easy walk with exceptionally stunning views!

Seriously underrated. We came on a Sunday morning back in June and there was not a soul in sight. It's essentially just a leisurely stroll with a huge reward. I absolutely recommend this for families or those who just want a small hike for half the day.

Prefect spot to propose, and she said yes

Too bad the actual lakes were closed but easy hike with great view of the valley! Agree to do the difficult trail up! There's lots of running water streams so be careful.

The view is a 5 star, but the crowd is a 1. It's a steep incline up and today when we went it was a little slick from snowfall. The view was beautiful and it's short walk to get to. However, the tourist were rude and it was elbow to elbow on the lookout. The best views are if you escape the crowd just a little going beyond the lookout platforms to the right and take photos with no one rushing you and even better views...this will require a slight adventure but nothing that was difficult to do.

Great hike, a bit slippery when wet (lots of rock stairs toward the end of the "difficult" side of the trail). The difficult side is not really too difficult unless you are carrying toddlers in your arms....
The actual lakes are currently fenced off and closed, so don't expect to be able to walk around them. But you do get great views of the valley and the waterfall from the top.

Heavily trafficed is an overstatement! It is basically a narrow paved trail the entire way where you are weaving in and out of tourists walking at turtle pace like they do not have the entire Canadian Rockies to explore! Once you actually get to the lookout, you cannot get a single good picture because someone else is always there. I don't think I need to see this lake again, but was glad I braved the crowd to at least see it once in person.

Parker Ridge is a trail I found to be pretty challenging even though I’ve seen it shown as an easy trail. On my visit in late September, the bottom section of the trail was incredibly muddy. (If you don’t want your shoes to get dirty, you might want to check the trail conditions or go elsewhere.) The next section was snow covered which made it a bit slippery. At the top of the ridge was dirt covered trail which was by far the easiest part of the trail. It is a short, but at various points, steep hike. You are awarded with an incredible view of a valley and mountains on the other side of Parker Ridge. Keep walking to the left, and a lake will come into view on your right. It is an amazing sight. As you proceed to the left, the trail becomes rather narrow, so proceed carefully. Not for the faint-hearted. The descent was possibly just as challenging due to the slippery snow and mud.

beautiful fall colours although not as many larches as I expected, had the trail essentially to ourselves... took 2 hrs to get to the lake at 4 yr old pace

Done when snowing and this makes the trail a lot more harder. but views at the end are just stunning. And even better with the snow

Really enjoyed it! Had great weather.

For a new hiker or someone visiting: this would be great. For someone who is a seasoned hiker this one is kind of “meh.” Lake isn’t anything wild. Moderate hike with minimal gain. Nice views on a nice day but if it was cloudy I think it wouldn’t be very interesting
