Not really a hike, more of a moderate intensity uphill walk. Still very enjoyable. There are several points at which you can walk off the paved path and climb to the cliff face. The views are incredible. Saw some blowholes as well. No whale sightings unfortunately. Once you reach the lighthouse you’ll see an unpaved path that will take you up to the pillboxes. Cool views from there as well.

This is a nice, relatively short hike that is very doable for kids. I went with my 3 and 6 years olds, and there were only a few spots where I felt the need to hold their hands. About half way up, it turns into a gorgeous bamboo forest! The wind is usually strong, so the sounds can be a little intimidating, especially for younger kids. But they’ll get used to it quickly.
The last leg starts once you climb a steep portion with steps that leads to a paved service road. Follow it straight up the hill, then curve to the left after the two transmission buildings with graffiti. It’s a bit of a winding path up for less than 5 minutes, and there is a cool little stone section you can sit or stand on to get a gorgeous view of the surrounding peaks!
It has a very isolated and natural feel to it!

Nice, easy and very quiet hike. Kid friendly. We enjoyed going off the trail down to the little waterfall towards the top of the trail.

One of my favorite hikes on Oahu. The rainforest is stunning as is the waterfall at the trailhead. Not much in the way of views until you get way up high on the ridge but this trail ticks a lot of boxes... good workout, beautiful plants and wildlife, and a waterfall at the start! Prepare for rain, drizzle, and mud as this trail is in a typically wet area of Oahu. Enjoy!

It rains so often that the trail is slippery. The trail starts out wide and beautiful but narrow towards the end. Some areas are difficult to get up. The waterfall barely had any water coming down when I went back in October. Hopefully that will change because I was really disappointed. The thing I will remember the most is all the wonderful people. Tip- don't wear flip flops (too muddy) and use bug spray.

Too many tourists in flip flops struggling to get up and down made it frustrating at times. However, the vegetation and waterfall were beautiful. Definitely a great one to do if you want a short, relatively easy hike with many beautiful photo opportunities.

Too many tourists, however the views at the top were breathtaking. Definitely worth it.

Great hike if you’re looking for something that is pretty well maintained, loaded with lush vegetation, and filming locations from Lost. Easy enough for the two of us and our two dogs. Trail gets a bit small at certain points but most hikers were polite enough to make way for others. The base of the falls was a bit crowded but after the past few weeks of steady rain it was to be expected. The rain also made the falls very active and beautiful.

Easy and beautiful

My family and I had an amazing experience. It is kid and dog friendly and as well very easy to make it up with a stroller. I recommend this trail to all age groups .

The canal can be pretty if you catch it at the right time and the the right angle, was no garbage interview. Sad because it COULD BE an urban gem.

Beautiful hike.

Tired of the monotony of getting dirty and having near death experiences trying to reach some jaw dropping view? This peaceful and beautiful walk through the woods can help break that up. Sadly there was not as much garbage to pick up as I'm used to, until detouring over to the 'Ualaka'a loop, where people seem to find it a more suitable environment to leave their trash behind. Say hello to the cats and chickens living in harmony in the parking lot.

Fairly easy hike up. It was a little muddy and a bit slippery but still fairly easy. The waterfall at the end it was amazing I spent 20 minutes taking a cold bath in the pool beneath the waterfall. Only reason this is not five star review is because it was extremely crowded probably saw close to 100 people on the trail with the majority of them congregated at the waterfall

It’s an easy hike but definitely busy and slippery. Wear proper shoes.

It’s a beautiful hike! The waterfall is gorgeous and the stream can be heard throughout the hike!

However, it’s muddy and can be very slippery so wear good shoes!

Great hike! Definitely agree with some of the reviewers that rec. to go right to start with the steep uphill climb. At the top before going down definitely rec. to take the Moleka Trail. It’s a great out and back trail through a bamboo forest.

Great trail, lots of tourists though.

This hike was gorgeous at the top with beautiful views of water and Waikiki. The only negative thing I could say is that this hike was definitely harder than other people have described. I am a runner and in great shape and this isn’t a walk in the park. I saw people in flip flops and Sandals and I was shocked. There are a lot of crowds and I would definitely recommend coming early.

Very easy hike with beautiful scenery. I went on a Monday when it was pouring which made it not so crowded.

Let me add some details. When people say get there early, 8:15 on a Sunday morning is not early (when we got there). The parking lot was full, several buses were parked and the place was jammed. We went back out and parked across the street from the entrance at the Community College Park lot. Easy walk in from there. For the actual hike, you basically queue up and march up the path/stairs. During the hike up and down you are single file because people are going both directions constantly. In the 1.5 miles up and down we probably passed 500 people? 1000? Just a lot of people. I prefer hikes where miles covered+dogs seen > number of people seen so this wasn’t for me. Still gave it three stars for the views and the fact that the queue actually moved at a decent speed. My wife also recommends using the bathrooms at the community college park as well since the bathrooms inside Diamond Head had lines out the door.

My wife and I hiked this and it was a great view from the top. It is relatively busy hike with numerous tourists, but worth it for the view.

A nice quick run up and down the trail this morning. It was slightly wet and muddy in places. I can’t imagine what this place looks like after rainfall. There were families, including young and old, climbing and descending. Everyone looked like the were having a good time.

The view from the top is ok. Nothing to write home about.... but this is Hawaii and experiences and memories are what makes life so special.

Wonderful drive with so much to see and do. Set aside some time to enjoy it all and a little more time in traffic going the Kam highway via the North Shore.

The place is certainly historic and an icon for the area, but it's not a trail I'd hike again with anyone given the number of tourists that frequent the area. Recommend any diamond head crater seekers to gauge the number of buses in the area before committing to the hike.

The views are great and would have been better with a sunrise but cloud cover didn't allow. Also, wear good shoes, lots of uneven terrain and stairs.

A very easy and relaxing hike.

Very crowded. Go for the view at the top.

Enjoyable hike for all fitness levels, paved completely to the top. Come early or you’ll have to park on the street. No whales this time.

3/11/2018-Started with the group around 0815 and passed 20+ groups of hikers (quite a few of them brought their dogs along). Weather was mostly overcast and windy so it was a little chillier than usual. Didn’t see any whales on this run but did see some birds flying around and a mongoose.
