Great little trail for viewing red rocks and foothills. There are some off-shoot trails as well. Easy enough for small dogs.

My first hike in Colorado was great , this trail is easy to do, though I would recommend micro spike if you worried about slipping, the snow is pretty packed down hard !

Beautiful setting. This is set as Easy however parking is a bit tricky and it's a pretty steep climb to get to the glacier. Was pretty slick with all the snow, will go again in spring.

this says loop but I did an out and back?? anyways, it was beautiful! I went early morning and nobody was there. I am new so took a lot of breaks but otherwise an easy hike

I just moved here and found this hike a little challenging because of the altitude. the trail is pretty packed down so I did it in tennis shoes with no problem. a lot of people brought sleds that looked fun! I took a lot of breaks but the view was great.

For someone not used to the altitude, this hike can be more challenging than most people have rated it. It’s short, but fairly rocky and steep. Combine that with the altitude, and some breaks may be necessary. Once you reach the top though, it’s worth the effort and you’ll probably want to hang out for a bit. Beautiful hike, but don’t underestimate it!

Great hike. Light cover of snow made the views beautiful. Snow packed trail, no ice. Wore my boots and had poles.

Easy local short outing. Popular community loop.

Great hike for the entire family! We battled 40+ mph winds and still had the best time! Can’t wait to do it again. We hiked on 1/4/18, completely snow-packed but made it even better. Kids slid back down the trail almost the entire way!

We did this trail end of July. Trail itself is rocky and steep but the reward is an amazing view of the lake and glacier. Hike up the glacier for more amazing views! People were sledding and skiing down the glacier!

Went to the top where it levels out today - used spikes for more sure footing but could be done without them. Such a beautiful, warm day!

Hiked 1/5/19: Very beautiful/easy short hike with a few side overlook trails! This is a very busy trail with all ages but surprisingly had the most wildlife I’ve ever seen on a hike! I saw deer, rabbits, birds and TWO BABY BOBCATS! There was quite a few people who witnessed the two babies but the mother was nowhere to be found. A gentleman in the crowd said he would let the ranger know! Also, once park capacity hits it’s one car in one car out. It was at full capacity by noon. $8 park fee! Totally worth it!

I love this easy hike for short winter days, when you really want to get out but don't want to deal with ski traffic in the high country. The trail was really quiet today except for a few out-of-towners. Folks please remember to pack in and pack out your trash. I noticed a few used Kleenexes and food wrappers tossed along the side of the trail. The scenery and wildlife here is too beautiful to be so careless.

Feel like an easy day? Here ya go!

Pretty much my favorite front range trail. Great, up close views of groovy rock formations.

Beautiful, easy trail. Came after a light snow, so there was a decent amount of snow on the ground. Snow was mostly packed, so snowshoes weren’t necessary, however there were a decent amount of xc skiers out. A homestead and an optional short hike to an old mine added a bit of history and interest. Will definitely come back - great for all levels.

giving a 3 because the pit toilets at the trail head were gross - almost overflowing, but the real toilets at the other lot made up for it.

Also, very open trail, no real tree coverage. Trail was easy.

Did this hike on 12/30. Definitely a good choice for a winter hike. Not much ice or snow at all! We decided to make a loop back to the car. We detoured down Alameda Parkway to Dinosaur Ridge and took the Dakota Ridge Trail back to the starting point. Great views on both ridges!

Easy peasy with nice views. Gentle trail running.

Very relaxing trail with beautiful rock formations and vistas. The trail is almost completely exposed so a perfect walk with the dog on a sunny winter day. Don’t expect to be alone as many other hikers and dogs were also on the trail. A half a dozen deer grazed near the trailhead right at sunset, which made for a serene end to the hike.

About as easy of a hike as you can get near Estes. I took some elderly family members here during the holidays. Dont come here if your're looking for a real hiking experience or any amount of solitude. Id say its a great hike for families or elderly people/small kids.

Fun Jeep drive. Close to Denver but far away.

The Morrison slide switchbacks were enough to put this into the 'moderate' category. It is perfectly flat once you reach the top. The views were fair. I approached from the south and am happy with my choice. I ended up foregoing the last mile down the other side -- it looked open, grassy, and shady (mid afternoon) -- not particularly exciting -- so I opted to turn around instead. Not a bad small trail close to town. Has potential for mountain biking, too.

Pretty views on a clear day...deer were abundant today. Be aware of them running across the trail.

I brought my 5 year old here to learn how to Mountain bike. It was perfect and the rock structures were pretty cool. I’ll be going back by myself to hit areas I couldn’t bring him.

Hike to the lake was easy and packed snow; beyond the lake and up the glacier was windy, packed snow and ice, with some deeper spots; we had Microspikes and they were perfect; face protection and googles a must for the top and 20-40mph winds. Views were spectacular and hike was awesome.

Yesterday was the first day of winter and the warmest forecast in the foreseeable future, so we darted out for a quick hike. It was quite windy with snow blowing, so we only went to the lake, but it was a beautiful trek! Next time we’ll make it further to the glacier!

Sunny and 55 on Dec 21st ☺️

hiked this trail in mid December. there was a snow storm during the hike, and the trail was covered by about 4 inches of snow, but we still had a blast and loved the trail.

Great spot and so close! Only did a short loop just under 2 miles. Nice nature house with bathrooms. I heard you can call ahead and reserve a golf cart to take the seniors on a ride around
