I would rate this moderate instead of easy. Only because you should be prepared to feel the burn as you hike uphill the whole way. We managed fine while wearing a baby and having a 8, 6, and 3yr old hike along too. And the hike down is a breeze. When you reach the top you will want to take the trail to the left towards Bear Gulch. Just a few feet away you will see the tunnel. The opening is small, but it's a bit roomier once you are inside. Adults will have to hunch over to walk through, but your kids will be able to stand up and have the time of their lives. There is a sign in front that gives some history of the hydraulic gold mine, which is really cool. Definitely a unique spot and we enjoyed the views along the way. The climb is always worth it!

There were no trail head marker, a mining claim sign is all that shows the start of the trail. trail is well defined for the first quarter mile. once you cross the tree log bridge, you are almost on your own. the trail seems to disappear and is overgrown with poison oak and the ticks were active.. down to the river was very scenic, we wish the trail had been cleared so it could be followed.

This was a fun little hike!

I’d probably put it at moderate and not easy, as the entire hike to the tunnel or other connecting trails is uphill. It’s steady, but all uphill. The kids, and myself, were starting to feel it towards the ends.

NOTE: once you finish the trail and it intersects the Bear Gulch Trail, you’ll want to go to your left (like you are starting the Bear Gulch Trail) for a few feet and the tunnel will be on your right.

The trail is easy enough for most kids to get there and smallish adults. I’m 5’8 and towards the end of the tunnel it becomes narrow and I had to crawl a few feet.

It was fun for sure and there are some stunning views along the way.

Very enjoyable!

nice views of the valley and Mt. McLoughlin on the Manzanita trail!

Love this time of year! wildflowers in bloom!

I've hiked this several times but yesterday was by far the most beautiful time of year to go! I also went from 5:00-7:00.

Great hike! We went towards the very begining of April. It was really muddy, but beautiful. It's an easy, peaceful trail with nice views of the creek, several benches, information plaques, and charming bridges. If you'd like to see more, my family documented our hike here: https://youtu.be/xlRGZwzmxuM

Nice trail with beautiful moss covered boulders. Wildflowers are just starting to bloom. Pearsoney falls is gorgeous and accessible.

I tried to find where this trail using my navigation but was unable to find it and where to park. Any help would be appreciated as I am not from Roseburg.
Thanks!

Passed the trailhead and almost made it to the top of the mountain before turning back and following directions left by others. Once we found the trailhead, it didn’t take long to lose the trail. Made it to the fallen log that crosses the river before turning around and heading back. We’re hoping to come back near the end of summer and maybe some foot traffic will have made the trail more visible by then.

What we did see was extremely beautiful though and can’t wait to hike it in its entirety one day!

Great little mile hike from the TH to the tunnel. Quick hike with beautiful views towards the top.

Super heavy use, in the heat of summer the flies are bad from all the horse and dog poop. Well maintained trails great for running, and very close to town. Those are the only reasons to go here. Otherwise not very picturesque.

My friend & I walked this on Good Friday it was the 1st hike for both of us this year, & it was very enjoyable. I think everyone who enjoys walking/hiking should try this trail at least once & the new hike trails at Britt (that are being planned) there in Jacksonville should create an even more satisfying day of hiking.

Great hike! Did this one for the first time this morning and I will definitely be doing it again! Super easy hike compared to Upper Table Rock trail! Trail is even easier to walk and seems more maintained than UTR but both great hikes! If you live around here you have to do both hikes at least once!

Very well maintained and many viewpoints on the way to the top that are breathtaking. No matter what time of year you will see or experience something different! We will be back soon!

Amazing views the entire trip! Very nicely maintained trails; even a couple benches along the way! Uphill all the way to the top; but once you reach the end you find information about the history of the tunnel which we found fascinating. Tall children and adults will hit their heads if they try to pass through the tunnel! Beware of ticks in the grasses surrounding he trails.

This has always been one of my favorite Rogue Valley hikes. I have hiked here dozens of times over the last 30 years and I never get tired of it. The view from the top is nothing short of spectacular!

Beautiful spring day for a family hike with folks from Oregon, Oklahoma and New Hampshire. Grew up in the area but it took 50 years to complete this hike. Well worth the effort!

Great walking trail.

Loved the view at sunset!

lots of bums and drug addicts. plus it's paved next to a highway. fuck that i prefer the mountains away from all that

great family hike....steep going up... easy down I really enjoy this hike whenever I'm in southern Oregon

Great hike just out of town for family and dogs. Can be busy on nice weekends though.

Nice stroll through the woods along the creek! looks like a popular swimming hole on hot days!
