There are so many trails; even though we follow the direction, we still got lost 3 times and had to trek back. At one point the trail showed on the map/GPS doesn’t exist. Wasn’t sure I was going to make it through; but I did, yay! We got some sun, fog, and rain, too during our hike. Was a great hike though - loved it.

I walked the West Ridge trail yesterday. It gets so much traffic from hikers and bicyclers that the plants on either side are covered with a fine, brown dust. Kinda depressing. There are many better trails in the area.

stream trail is the best, all in redwoods and always chillly

Whether you start from either French Trail or Stream Trail, there's good elevation coming in and out of it. You’ll find several picnic tables along the way and enough bathroom facilities. There's also lots of side trails to explore.

My AllTrails app suddenly stopped recording at one point so I wasn't able to full record my hike but that's ok (pardon the gap on my recording).

If you decide to hike on a weekend and choose Skyline Gate Staging Area as your starting point, try to get there before 8am to have a better chance at finding parking (vs street parking).

The part that goes from parking lot to Rodeo Trail is wrong— the path is covered in brush, unmaintained and impassable. I backtracked and went further along the road to get on the trail. After that it was good. Karl the Fog was in full effect. I got lost as usual. Couldnt run strava cos of battery drain but it feels like I ran at least 13.1

What is great about this trail is that you can make it as long or short as you like. There ate lots of trails that off shoot this trail so if you want an extension or if you want to cut it short you can. The French trail is one of my favorites because first of all it’s beautiful, it’s up-and-down to get a nice workout and no bikes!
it really is a good idea to get there early as it does get crowded and it tends to get warm as you’re making your way uphill back to the parking lot. Definitely put this one on you list!

Very nice elevation loop. You will feel the burn. Start as early as possible.

Within few minutes you forget that you are very near to some of the busiest cities. A close-up experience with nature, this moderately rated hike will help you appreciate the much needed quiet time you are missing after living in the city. Good for kids who can manage some elevation.

Got to Skyline parking lot before 8am on a Sunday and it was already full so had to park along the street. Hike down Stream Trail and to the other parking lot was pretty easy, shaded and downhill, passing by campsites and redwoods. Headed back via French trail, which requires some uphill initially and then a few portions of up and downhill, nothing too strenuous. Overall a good hike, just get there early.

River trail is flat and a pleasant walk. French trail portion is strenuous but fun. Lots of foilage and shade

People do not keep their dogs on a leash even though the rules are to do so!!!

Other than being unsure of people’s dogs level of friendliness while walking, the experience is nice. I love the views of the redwoods and the creek. Oh and the lady bug habitat.

Lots of bathrooms along the trails.

A great hiking experience, minus the dogs not on a leash.

Good workout..we started with stream trail and reached play area from there we got on to orchard and then French trail. Has some elevation and trees around.

Great trail ! I recommend coming on a weekday as to avoid the traffic and enjoy a more quiet experience.

Just went today and one of the most beautiful places to go hiking!!

Definitely get there early - it gets crowded. Some good redwoods and shady, covered areas so it’s perfect for hot days. Lots of uphill. Be prepared.

Nice hike. Lots of people though. Some groups as large as 10. Most with dogs. Started on the west ridge trail (the one to the right) and was going against most of the flow.

My favorite trail at Redwood Regional Park. I always go extra early to avoid the crowds. Be warned that if you start on French and finish on Stream that the final stretch is totally exposed.

Great for mountain biking not much for hiking.

Wonderful trail right in the east bay when you need a nearby hike in the shade to escape the blazing summer sun as long as you DO NOT return via the west ridge trail which is boring and exposed! No views along French trail - this is a forested section. Lots of redwood trees and smells of eucalyptus. Gets really busy during the weekend.

on Monument Peak Loop

Hard but worth it!

Great hike! Really beautiful and varied terrain.
Note that you can omit the loop through Skyline Park to make this hike a little shorter - particularly on a hot day where Skyline is very dry.
Really enjoyed it!!!
You can replenish water and use restrooms at Sibley.

Great hike. Pretty hard at the beginning. A good variety of views over the bay. Crowded at the second peak but otherwise very nice.

This is a classic Bay Area foot hills trail. Grass lands, oak trees and steep trails. You need to get a $2 permit to enter this area. Let the person at the entrance know and he will give you the permit/map. The map is high quality and worth the $2. The trail is a long steady climb to rose peak. Mostly on fire roads that are a bit steep. Some on trails that are over grown. I did it on memorial day and saw another 20 people or so along the way. There is no shade on this trail. Doing it on anything other than a cool day will not be enjoyable. There are a lot of ticks so come prepared and don't wander off into the grass. Most of the grass is now dry. I think this trail is probably best from Nov to May. Great training hike to test fitness for hikes in the sierras.

Great hike if you don't mind the crowds. Give it five stars if it was not so crowded.

To get this trail right, start counter clockwise, and once you are on del amigo trail, make a left on Virgil Williams trail and then a left on madrone all the way to ringtail cat trail.

It’s a great trail. Loved everything about it. Going there towards end of the spring and just before summer, There are several places where the trail was overgrown and it was impossible to see the trail - especially the last part getting back to the fire road. We literally had to guess and pray that we were not stepping on a snake or something else.

Nice change of scenery to peninsula hiking that I usually do and nice way up mission peak that is significantly less traveled. I’d say drawbacks were: very exposed/ very little shade, grassy and ticks so wear pants!, lots of cow ####, and I would not do this is in the summer mainly because I think the grass would be teaming with all those pesky pricklers.

Love this hike! and got to see the lady bugs earlier this year!

Easy flat 5 hrs long loop around the Briones reservoir. Few nice lookouts from El Sobrante ridge. Be aware of lots of ticks on this trail hiding on tall grasses. Best for early morning before sun heats up the area
