Hiked up on this cold (4°f) morning to catch the sunrise. Noticed a few trail markers, but the trail is easy enough (and wide) to follow (even in the dark), they aren't really needed. About 40mins up, 25 down. Lots of ice - microspikes are definitely needed! The views are absolutely incredible and worth every step! Must be a very popular trail - we weren't the only ones who hiked up in the dark on the coldest day of the year thus far...

Nice views, nice workout. Micro spikes needed as of 1/6, ice underneath a few inches of snow for most of the trail.

Great little hike after a morning of skiing Gore. Did the up and back from the west side parking. So much flow ice bring micros. Even so we slipped a lot due to lack of snow and leaves getting caught in the micros. Fantastic view of town and Hickory.

Do not attempt without micro spikes. 60% sheet of ice right now. Not much snow. Slow going but can't beat the views!

beautiful views for a short and relatively easy hike! it's over before you know it. I would definitely avoid doing this on a weekend as it was packed full when I did it in september, to the point there was no room up top! hiked it again later in the fall and it was much less populated : )

great! short and very easy, would wear spikes due to the ice. this would be a great trail for beginners or young ones, would also be a nice snowshoeing trail if there was a bit more snow! will revisit in the spring

Great view for not a lot of effort. My 7 year old thought it was awesome

Short beautiful walk! Trail is a bit icy now, though.

A great hike in the winter. Great views of Lake George along with streams and ponds. Hiked it with my dog and she loved it.

Not a difficult hike and had some awesome sunrise views!

Hiked Thomas today and the views at the top were gorgeous. As someone who is relatively new to hiking, I found the climb to be rewarding and very acceptable to new hikers out there looking for a new challenge. The terrain was sporadically covered with snow or leaves but I wore micro spikes and would recommend them for stability and safety.

Great small hike. 700ft in 1.2miles up gets your heart pumping. Probably 4-6inches of snow and icy conditions but doable in hiking boots. Some had mirospikes on that helped in the icy areas. Awesome views of Schroon Lake.

Beautiful views but a crowded trail and parking. I imagine in the summer it is worse. Only 1.5 miles RT , moderately steep in spots with loose rocks. If you are not in shape or have bad knees or are overweight, try something else. I saw several people with canes or were overweight who probably should not have been on this trail. The though was great. A lot of dogs so keep yours leashed. Active bear sightings were posted

Blue trail was easy and pretty, the yellow was fun with great views !

Simply stunning views from the top. Fairly easy hike up. Took us about 20-22 minutes to get to the top. The terrain was a mix of rocks & dirt trail. Highly recommend this if you’re in the area & don’t have time (or the inclination ) for a longer hike.

This was a great hike on a nice autumn day with my dog. We hiked the trail from Edgecomb pond to the top of Cat. The directions were a bit confusing as to parking. There are two parking lots on Edgecomb pond, both marked with the town of Bolton water shed signs. Since we parked in the first lot, our overall hike was a bit longer with some road walking. We followed the red trail to the intersection with the blue trail, and then the blue trail to the top, which ended up being 2.7 miles according to the Trails.com map app. This was a pretty nice woods walk on an old road for the first 2.2 miles, then got a bit steeper and a little rougher for the last half mile or so. The top offers a beautiful panorama view of Lake George – Tongue Mountain, the Narrows and the southern basin. The Green Mountains of Vermont were also outstanding. From the top, we followed the red trail down off the face. This way was definitely more difficult – it was steeper with plenty of wet leaves to make things interesting. The woods were very thick and the trail barely noticeable. Luckily it was well marked with red spray paint just about every 10 feet or so. Even so, I still lost the trail a couple of times. About 2/3 of the way down it opened up, with crossings of old logging roads and rock walls. There were also cairns every now and then. This trail was also a more direct route back. We were back at the car after about three hours total, including a half hour on the peak for lunch and views. Total distance was 4.7 miles.

What a great first hike in the ADK’s! Some small steep spots, but nothing to be worried about. Absolutely loved the autumnal views in October!!

Thomas to Cat for great views and a nice return

this is a super late review.. first off I would like to say if you are hiking with a dog take the long way up and down. the short way is steep with huge, slippery boulders, very challenging with a dog (this trail is on-leash). Otherwise I thought it was a nice hike, a little challenging closer to the top. Super neat views, weather was great with some rain sprinkles

Great for kids. Nice view of Lake George.

Hiked August 23, 2018. Took trail from Edgecomb pond instead of Thomas Mt. 4.0 mi round trip. 1000 ft ascent from pond. Time 1:20 up 1:10 down. No rock climbing, just a long gradual climb. Amazing view of Lake George islands, mountains.

5 stars because of the magnificence of the view for a relatively short trek. I would say moderate to easy depending on your fitness, you are rewarded with an amazing view from the narrows to the south basin. Enjoy!

Did Cat to Thomas with my 14yr old and 12yr old. They loved it. Peak to peak will be amazing when the leaves are gone. After doing this direction, I agree with previous review that you should bolt up to Thomas first, then make your way to Cat. Bring hiking poles, especially useful for the rocky/rooty sideslope between the peaks. Enjoy!

Starts out moderately steep fades to steady incline with rocks and normal forest debris. Last 10 minutes is steep with rocks as main trail. Top boasts beautiful views.
