Trail was bone dry. It’s a beautiful hike back into the canyon. We turned back at 2 miles at the top of a steep drop by the trail into the canyon overlooking Double Cliff House. Loved this hike!

SnowshoeingGreat!IcyNo shadeSnow

Snowshoed on April 2nd out to the 2.1 mile marker from the parking lot where they keep all of the rental snowmobiles (Silverton Powdercats). Absolutely amazing views of Electric Peak and Mt Garfield at the 2.1 mile marker. There were lots of snowmobile paths at the beginning that taper off later on, and you enter true wilderness. Its gorgeous, and you get a great taste of snowshoeing. Great starter snowshoeing trail, but bring GPS! I never saw a another soul out their other than my hiking partner!

Blue skies, red canyons, snow capped mountains, amazing trail, ruins - what’s not to love?

HikingGreat!

Started from the south trailhead. This is such an awesome trail. We were concerned there would be mud, but the trail was 90% hard packed dirt today, with minimal mud and ice. And the views are spectacular. Minimal elevation gain. Hiked to most of the viewpoints for a total just short of 9 miles round trip. We started at 8am and had the entire canyon to ourselves until we turned around, and then met several other groups starting out.

Beautiful views to see. There were cliff dwellings and interesting rock formations. Very muddy today though.. waterproof boots/shoes highly suggested. 3 miles into trail you can see more dwellings with first view over the valley.

Wonderful and easy going in, muddy coming out and I lost the trail in the last half mile, but caught the highway and walked to parking from there - first time here, loved it!

Really fun hike! Easy enough but challenging as well! Ruins start at 1 mile in, so even if your not a long distance hiker, this trail is rewarding early on!! If you can make it 3 miles out, the “2 Story Ruins” was beautiful and had evidence of a waterfall right next door- it was dry when I went but I bet it’s awesome during the wet season!! Definitely worth it!!

Fun hike. The switchback section isn't nearly as bad as the signs hint, but it does take a bit to get through it. Views are best from the switchbacks themselves, the top doesn't have much exposure. Be sure to take every spur trail sign to see the ruins! If you do, actual mileage will be higher than is listed..and what's the point of going and not seeing the ruins?

Trail is super fun. Did it Nov. 23. I don’t recommend it in the winter due to snow on the trail. Otherwise super fun!

Great easy hike and weather was perfect. Very cool topography. Would be too hot earlier in the year, except Spring. No water for dogs as no recent rain. Entire hike under 6000’ and fairly flat. Nice ruins to explore. Cell tower in site towards Cortez so good service throughout. Lots of low ground cactus so risky for dogs. Plan first aid accordingly. Definitely wear layers as lots of sun mixed with a little shade and breeze.

For what's it's worth for anyone worried/confused based on comments below, I followed exactly this route and both my Garmin watch and Strava on my phone showed the same distance that AllTrails says. Great hike.
