Young life lost the day we were planning to visit. Not worth it, at least in the winter when the tide is high and extremely dangerous. Be smart and be safe if you do hike it. Never turn your back to the ocean.

The loop is open, but the dam is CLOSED.
Nice mahogany forests, but no vistas and, did I say, Muddy?

beautiful half day hike.

Great views of Waimea canyon! The waterfall is a little bit small but overall, great hike!

Nice scenic waterfalls and River views, but lots of downed trees to dodge and difficult without proper footwear due to mud.

Interesting walk thru a working farm. Good signage; easy.

Nice views across the canyon. Waterfall plateau is small, but definitely worth it. All in all a very nice and well maintained trail!

Tried going today (12/7) and the entrance gate is locked. Heard of others hopping the fence to go out but did not attempt.

Hiked this - beautiful views of the canyon

I brought 2 of my sisters to this hike- there are sections of the trail that were muddy and very slippery. The views of the canyon are the most beautiful. The waterfalls are nice but not as dramatic. All in all, a good day hike.

DO NOT GO HERE! You will put your life and those of our brave first responders at risk! A 23 yr old died here yesterday. There have been so many deaths. Why would you go? Irresponsible for this site to even allow it to be listed.

Don’t mess around here this time of year! A 23 year old girl was swept off the trail out to sea and killed here yesterday and they have yet to find her body. DO NOT ATTEMPT WHEN SURF IS HIGH!!!

This is a great trail with a great destination, but....the day I hiked in (20 mins down on a very slippery down hill trail) I was chased out by fire and rescue swimmers who were there to recover a body. So no joke, when the surf is high this can be a very dangerous place. Waves can reach the “top shelf” of the beach rocks. Use your discretion!! Easier climbing out than descending. Have fun, be safe.

This loop is actually a series of trails. It can be hard to find the start and follow the loop to each connection. The redwood forest is a nice surprise.

As a novice hiker, this trail was still very doable. It had rained a lot the day before which made the way down slippery and slow. Would not do this hike in bad weather - would be both difficult and views of the canyon wouldn't be great. As it was, we had spectacular canyon views. Didn't go all the way to the waterfall because of limited time (the hike to the canyon and back took 2 hrs). If you have a fear of heights, drive to the trail head may be tough for you (windy roads overlooking canyon)

Super quick and easy hike. Did not take the kids on it but would have been an easy one to take the kids on. Great views. Beware most hikes in Hawaii are slippery if is raining or had the day before.

This hike was tough because of how slippery and muddy it was. The weather in the winter is just unpredictable but it was simply epic... go to the end, even if it’s a bit scary.

Wear hiking shoes or trail runners ... some people were wearing crappy running shoes and were sliding all over. One couple was barefoot and that seemed way better than bad shoes.

But the view from the edge is insane. The clouds would roll in for a few minutes and then open up to see the Napali Coast.

We really wanted to do the Kalalau trail but it’s closed. This was the next best for sure!

The Wai Koa Loop Trail in Kilauea is perfect for children. The trail is good for all skill levels and is primarily used for hiking, walking and mountain biking. You should sign the waiver at the Anaina Hou Community Park, which is being renovated and includes a putt-putt golf in a botanical garden setting.

Years ago I brought my daughter to Kauai and we made a cute video for her elementary school, featuring the famed, Flat Stanley. We took the little guy on an adventure to the Queens Bath, so on this trip, my wife and I wanted to relive the previous trip. After trudging through the muddy jungle bush, we made it to the lava-rock coastline. The waves were enormous and the Queens Bath looked more like a cauldron than a tepid pool. Little did we know, that as the beachgoers left, the lifeguards closed the beach at the trailhead. Before we knew it, we were the only one’s watching the turbulent ocean show. It was amazing to have this whole stretch of splendor all to ourselves.

Can be tricky in some parts but we saw children and adults in sandals completing the hike-take your time and you should be ok. Really enjoyed it! That being said, if it had been raining I would have avoided this hike that day.

Great short hike through a beautiful rain forest to this cute little waterfall (the second one), perfect for swimming and hanging out.

Awesome trail ! Pictures don’t even do this hike justice, best kept secret in Kauai! Don’t go on a cloudy day, wait for a clear day to really see the amazing terrain and helicopters flying BELOW you!

The view is spectacular !

This hike was pretty incredible. I highly recommend it but know that it's a little tricky in some spots. It was definitely slippery when we went. Trekking poles are highly recommended and just take your time. The views were amazing throughout the entire hike.

Epic hike. Definitely a little scary as many points on hike you are on step away from falling off a cliff. Take your time and it’s worth it!

Weather was nice today and the trail is in good shape for the most part. I noticed that some people used short cuts and did not stay on the trail. The trail is mostly in the shade. Wow what a view of the canyon. We stayed there and enjoyed the view for a long time. Nature was constantly disrupted by the helicopters flying around. Then went to check out the waterfall, which was okay. We liked the canyon view much better.

This is an amazing trail, so glad I did it. One of the top hikes i’ve done in awhile. Though short, impressive and beautiful views throughout the hike, so much to see. I saw the warnings about using this trail at the information center about not risking it and somebody had fallen and had to be rescued as previous reviewer said. The trail is completely manageable, first 15 minutes is steepish, use caution especially when muddy and wet, can get slippery going downhill. wear hiking boots and you’re fine. Like others said on here trust and use your judgement and you’ll be fine. It’s a good sweat at times, Never felt like I was in danger, this trail may fry a few nerves for those who don’t hike often.

Scenic but not worth the hike if you’re searching for waterfalls

Awesome hike! It was actually “easier” on the way up, than the way down. We are used to hiking 13ers in Colorado, though, so it might be more difficult if you are not in decent shape. Make sure you bring shoes with good traction, because it’s very slippery (mud and loose rocks) in certain places. We both had running shoes, and that was a mistake. Took about 1.25 hours to get down, and 2 hours to get back up. Start early and bring plenty of water!
