Hiked this trail in the snow, got lost on the first leg of the trail and ended up in a small town but found our way back. Didn't like that the road was right next to us for much of the hike but you do see some nice veiws. Also saw a lot of deer and geese near the lake.
About 1.5 feet of snow so definitely wear snow boots. You can’t get to a parking lot, it’s easier to park on the side of the road in the snow.
Feb 6th, too much snow to hike in, snow shoes are a must if you even want to try.
Bien
Went with my 2 and 4 year old. Didn't do the whole thing. Mixed feelings. Grateful to have something so close, but appalled at the prevalence of garbage, broken glass, and graffiti. Nice views at the top as long as you look past the trash.
Awesome trail! Easy wider/gravel path for most of it until the first falls, then the more adventurous climb up the narrow trail along the gorge to the 2nd falls with multiple cascades. The steeper portions past the 1st falls did still have some ice on them and there were many large trees down to climb over/under on that part as well. Once you reach the 2nd falls, you either continue up the steps to the road as on this route or there is an optional green-blazed trail (no name/sign) that veers gradually up the hill to the left and connects up with Ridgeline Trail.
Sunny, 45 deg. weekday hike around the northern-most part of the 1st Watchung Ridge, with amazing views east and north.
Really nice ,easy and accessible trail!
Loved the ease and beauty of the trail along the creek! A bit slick this time of year with ice. I had my teenage son with me so we only went to the first waterfall. We did not continue on due to ice.
This trail was great- I do recommend crampons for the icy patches... makes it a breeze. However, proceeding past the first waterfall was a bit too treacherous for me... I’m sad I didn’t get to finish it & see all of the other falls. Spring! :)
Very rough with the ice. Be safe.
Parked by the overlook and walked the nearby trails with 7 yo and 4 yo. Some areas of the trail were quite steep but mostly kids had a great time walking around and exploring.
Awesome start to 2021
