Well maintained trail with cutouts for views of Mt. Mansfield. Various terrain but plenty of flat forest floor to break up the few rocky climbs. About 2 hours for us 65 year olds. As expected, rocky and steeper at the top.

Machu Picchu stairway is a hoot. Bravo GMC!

Really great trail, nice views of pond. Lots for “stairs” on way up. Can get crowded.

This park is ONLY open to Essex VT residents with a valid Indian Brook Park Pass! But here’s a little secret- there is no park employee at the entrance to check passes in the late fall through early spring- so if you’re not an Essex resident you’re out of luck for the summer but......
Posted signs say Dogs are allowed OFF leash here as long as they are in voice control. They only have to be leashed in parking lots and in the picnic area.
Lots of other trails besides main loop around the lake- worth checking out. Great for snowshoeing and x-country skiing in the winter.

Nice trail - the meadow entrance trail is out and back but once you are in the woods there are many loops available which can also lenthen the hike.

this was my favorite hike all year. the top reminded me of the Himalayas a little bit.

Great local place to get away and get exercise. Small inclines, fields and the pond.

Just pure magic.

Wow, this trail is absolutely stunning. Yes there's a pond and a few nice views of the pond and surrounding views along this slippery loop trail, however the trail alone is worth visiting for this hike. Its kind of like- whatever you envisioned as woods in fairy tales when you were a child.

Great area to walk and relax!

My gps clocked it at 2 miles each way. Good little hike, lots of off leash dogs. Took about 2 hours with my pup.

A short hike great for kids!..you can make it longer if you hike down to Sucker Brook.
you will need to turn around and come back,or park a car on both sides.
Easy fun .

Great place to get started hiking and the view from the top is excellent.

If you don't like crowds, only hike this on a Tuesday when it's raining. The pond is pretty and if you go about 500ft past the pond, you'll be on the side of Smuggs and there are pretty views of Mansfield and the valley.

A must do if you’re in town. Go North to North Beach , Leddy Park and the Causeway trail { *through the lake } and South to Oakledge Park. Amazing lake views for much of this trail, and decent shade as well. Please obey the traffic rules and pay attention - it’s a fairly heavily travelled trail in season, in sections.

Even though it is rated Easy, there are some pretty step and long climbs. For our first outing may have been more than we should have tackled. Looking forward to doing it again when we’re better prepared. Last leg near edge of water isn’t much fun. High weeds and brush on a very narrow path.

Quick Intensive hike,

Great 2-3 hr hike depending on your ability. A few areas of steep climbing but worth the gorgeous view at the top of the valley. Start early to avoid the crowd and bring a snack or lunch for a break at the top.

Nice in-town trail but very busy - even on a weekday.

One of my favorite trails to hike in Vermont; probably because my late husband and I first hiked it back in 2004. It is a good couple hour hike up and back down. Worth seeing the pond but hope that it is not getting over hiked.

Really enjoyed this area. Had a little of everything. Some nice inclines to get a workout but not too rigorous. Loved the different venues, from meadows to walking along the pond and through the canopy of trees. Definitely will go back! Well maintained and easy to navigate.

This is the perfect hike if you only have 2-3 hours but still want a good workout and great view. The incline is pretty steady throughout; you don’t get too many breaks, and the last half mile is rocky (but we love that). Took some nice panoramic shots at the top. Highly recommend.

A beautiful walk around the lake, shaded and relaxed. This should be rated easy; there are a few places where you step across small stones, but otherwise it’s very flat and chill. Also, be aware that the loop doesn’t quite complete itself, we needed to walk out to the Main Street to find our car. I’d do it again!

This trail does require a bit of patience (it took about 2.5 hours to reach the peak in the wintertime. It was, however, well worth it: you are afforded a great view of the valley (you can see the chin, Mt. Mansfield, in the distance).

Hiked this trail today for the first time. The pond is great! We hiked in with my 11 and 7 year olds. It was long for them but they made it. My husband has been coming to Stowe for 25 years and this was the first time he did this hike. We will absolutely do this one again!

Nice hike with some hills and rocks at top. Beautiful views!

Nice trail with some challenging uphill climbs. Heavily trafficked so get there early to avoid large crowds at the summit.

Good day to spend time with the kids. Plenty of climbing & easier than I thought to get back down. still have to be careful though.

Nice trail with beautiful views at the top. It was crowded though. The summit area is not very large and there were so many people up there that it was difficult to find space to sit and enjoy the view.
