Fun trail! Packed with snow but beautiful nonetheless. For some areas having trekking poles would make it easier.

First ones on the trail 1/13/18, for the most part followed skiers along the trail I was familiar with. We reached a point where the trail was lost and followed up a skiers way for a bit and turned back. We were about .5mi from the lake which was a bummer !!

Absolutely bring snow shoes and spikes. Views are just fabulous

Very enjoyable! Plenty of trails to pick from. There’s about a foot of snow right off the trail but much more if you go too far off. You see elk and wildlife here and there. Woods but if you go to perimeter trails then you see meadows. I used my basic spikes (smaller less heavy duty) over my hiking boots and it was a great hike!

Beautiful bluebird day! Snowshoes were very helpful with about a mile to go. The trail was clear and easy to follow. I highly recommend!

trail is snow covered but not icy! beautiful as can be!

Great hike. Light cover of snow made the views beautiful. Snow packed trail, no ice. Wore my boots and had poles.

Went with just spikes and gaiters. Unavoidably deep at some parts. Waist deep about 0.3 miles from the end of the trail, which was a real bummer.

We started at the Beaver Brook trail which is 3 miles downhill and back up the Chavez which was 2 miles uphill. We went 1/6/19 and there trail had some snow and ice in some areas. The trail is a mix of flat trail, rocks you need to hug or climb over and crossing streams. Just be mindful that the last 2 miles have quite an incline uphill and it’s not easy. I am looking forward to doing it again in summer as it is well shaded and I may be in better shape

Amazing trail you have to try. Little bit everything on this hike. It was bit sketchy in some areas because of snow and ice over some rocks, but overall it’s a great trail and will be back.

Great day to get out and explore. Honestly, the trail is so packed you don't need snowshoes. I put mine on about 1/2 miles before the lake, thinking I would need them, but I didn't. Micro spikes would've been fine. Also agree with the last comment...please pack out all of your trash and your dogs as well.

trail in great shape for this time of year, no ice!

Beautiful hike that crossed over the creek several times. It was snowy/icy in several areas. Starts off downhill then the last mile and a half or so is uphill. Well maintained but could use better signage.

Good hiking trail. Beautiful view of Mt Evans from the Brothers Outlook. Trail had some snow pack on it but didn’t need micro-spikes to hike it today.

Great hike with multiple creek crossings. Went right at the start of the loop and it was 85% downhill and flat, easy. Probably more on the moderate end the other way. Recommend going in the summer to see the awesome creek. It was frozen during my hike but still was a gorgeous hike! Moderate hikers and dogs.

Great hike! Started mid-morning and the sun and incline kept us warm. Snowshoes definitely recommended for the second half closer to the lake. Personally had fun figuring out where i would less likely sink down ha
My friend had snowshoes which helped a lot

Gorgeous views throughout! We snowshoed today but probably could have gotten away with just microspikes as long as we didn’t step off the trail (we definitely saw evidence of postholing a couple feet deep just inches off the trail). Please pack out ALL trash as there are no trash pick ups here. In other words, please don’t leave bags of dog poop on the side of the trail or laying by the port-o-lets - take it home to throw away. Thank you for keeping the trails clean.

Pretty much my favorite front range trail. Great, up close views of groovy rock formations.

Fun "wander around" trails. Worth the trip.

Steeper than you think, but views at the top are spectacular. Leave some extra time to hang out / explore around the lake. Wildflowers are fantastic in season.

Beautiful views, varied terrain, busy with hikers and dogs, some tricky spots, several amazing rock stairs, very little snow or ice on the trail on the day we went...It definitely satisfies the need to get some peace in nature!

A bunch of Powdery snow fell the night before so it was a A wonderful trail for a snow hike. Early morning hike. The temp was -1 so we bundled up a bit more than normal. We loved the quiet serenity and the elevation gain/drops were easy. Lots of animal tracks and some deer spottings. We wore crampons to navigate the snow but no ice.

This was a pretty hike. Not well posted and we lost track of the trail a few times...which would likely be more difficult right after a snow. Easy access from the city.

Did this hike on 12/30. Definitely a good choice for a winter hike. Not much ice or snow at all! We decided to make a loop back to the car. We detoured down Alameda Parkway to Dinosaur Ridge and took the Dakota Ridge Trail back to the starting point. Great views on both ridges!

trails dust covered with snow, but no ice. nice hike very few people on trail. eager to try other trails in the area. was cold started flurrying at the end. dress in layers

We went snowshoeing a day ago and it was great conditions and views, especially after a fresh snowfall. Snowshoes are definitely required at this time. Poles were also helpful to have.

Pretty little dusting of snow on the trail today. Option to mix and match with all of the other intersecting trails along the way. As long or as short as you like.

The Morrison slide switchbacks were enough to put this into the 'moderate' category. It is perfectly flat once you reach the top. The views were fair. I approached from the south and am happy with my choice. I ended up foregoing the last mile down the other side -- it looked open, grassy, and shady (mid afternoon) -- not particularly exciting -- so I opted to turn around instead. Not a bad small trail close to town. Has potential for mountain biking, too.

Nice trail but a lot of road noise because it is so close to the road. Trail had little to no snow or ice on 12/25/18.

(12/9) Pretty easy hike, my guy is not much into hiking or great shape but was able to do this pretty easily. Not much snow on the trail, only in shaded spots. Still a good hike and nice views

Love this trail! If you take it clockwise from the parking lot, there are some steep sections to get you warmed up then the remainder is moderate with beautiful views over Elk Meadow. Perfect for a quick afternoon local hike!
