Wet, muddy, snowy, and wonderful!
Gate closes on Dec 1st. Making it a total of 8.5 miles. Road to get there is clear as of Feb.22. I drove my RWD and parked on the side of the road without a problem. Crampons or minispikes are a must. Snowshoes are better for the first half but not required. If you go on a rainy day make sure to bring an extra pair of socks and clothes, you will get wet.
Highly trafficked with most not wearing masks but the trail itself is beautiful
Trails were a little confusing but absolutely gorgeous! Trail led right up to one of the waterfalls and it was an easy path!
This trail features the best of what the park has to offer: waterfalls, bridge crossing, and some secluded rocky sections. Best city park in the Portland/Vancouver area.
It was a lot more dry today, and more trails were accessible.
Amazing, as always! Muddy... VERY muddy, as expected this time of year. Enjoyed every minute of it.
Don’t let the beginning of this trail deceive you- starts in a busier park but shifts into smaller trails that are quiet and beautiful. Muddy in spots but nothing bad at all. I definitely recommend for a quick afternoon hike!
Such a beautiful beautiful trail! A bit muddy in places rn. Trail by one of the waterfalls was washed out but we easily went up and around to connect back to the trail. Would recommend!
**google map’s location for the trail is wrong, so make sure to follow all trails’ directions** My experience was definitely tainted by the soggy weather, but overall it was a great trail. Lush and green in the forested parts, and the lake is beautiful. IMO, there’s no need to continue past the footbridge after the lake...unless you wanted a bit more mileage. Note that a good portion of the trail is uncovered, so if it’s raining you will get wet.
Muddy in spots. So many little side trails it’s easy to get turned around/confused even with the map. The dam and wood burn falls were our favorite parts.
Pleasantly surprised. Enjoyed the waterfalls and forest setting.
The river crossing passed the waterfall was essentially washed out. we had a toddler in a pack and didn’t feel comfortable trying to hop across. The rest of the trail was pretty good.
Beautiful lake! Not a lot of traffic, but pretty muddy. Still definitely worth it.
The hike up Lacamas Creek was surprisingly lovely, creek was roaring over the falls and edged by steep stone walls. Great for a mid-winter stroll.
It was okay. The second half was much more interesting than the first. Plenty of little mushrooms. Very wet and muddy but that’s just the way it is in winter.
Muddy in places, love the color of Gillette Lake.
Muddy, bring your boots! poles or spikes not needed Sunday 1/31/21
Pretty muddy at the beginning but nice trail otherwise. A handful of people on the trail and some reported cougar tracks a little past the lake.
Calm down Karen.
A muddy, fun trail!!! We brought our 4 kids (10,8,6,3) and they loved it. The little guy rode in the pack the majority of the hike, but would have done fine with some hand holding. Perfect hike to get outside and explore for a few hours.
