I loved it! The only flaw is that for me I had no idea where to turn around and the constant background noise. Other than that, it was incredible!!!!

It's an easy, short hike with decent changes of scenery and a nice view from the firetower and an overlook at the top. I encountered few people on the trail on a summer Saturday, but quite a lot of feces, seemingly both human and dog. Pretty disgusting and more than I'd ever encountered on a trail before.

If you've got friends or family visiting you in Vermont, Mount Philo is the perfect way to spend a few hours. A very easy mile each way gets you some great views of Lake Champlain and the surrounding areas. Very crowded in the summer, try to hike this one around 5 or 6 pm to catch the setting sun over Lake Champlain.

This was a pretty hike but not what I would call easy. There were some pretty steep sections that left my family winded. The forest was lovely but not a good view of the waterfall and the highway detracts from the window view.

Great trail with amazing views at the top. Kinda steep at points but doable if you’re in moderately health and shape. Plenty of kids and elderly were doing it

A nice short hike. Grade was a little steeper than I thought it would be but a decent challenge. It was very foggy and there was no view from the fire tower but a good way to spend the morning.

Nice family friendly hike. You can choose to stick to path or follow the paved road both up and down. Offers some beautiful views of Lake Champlain.

Moderate elevation. Good distance. Gr8 view.

My 15 yr old son and I walked this approximately 10mi hike in 5.5 hrs with time to enjoy the views and rest stops along the way. It was a great hike, just challenging enough for us both. It had rained and the trail was muddy and slippery. There are a few streams to cross and a lot of scrambling on steep rocks near the top. The elevation gains were doable, slow and steady increase to the top. We lost the trail a few times in the second half too but our phone GPS worked up there and helped us out. There were very few people on the trail, and we accidentally disturbed a great horned owl. I highly recommend this hike.

The trail is well-groomed with many platforms to navigate wet areas. Most of the trail winds through wooded areas and the canopy provides a cool, shaded walk. We were hoping for more views of the pond, but still a scenic walk in the Vermont woods.

Nice trail had a great time. I have a bad knee so it slow coming down due to the rocks in trail, but had nice time

We did this in mid-october in full foliage. Outstanding and highly recommend it. I could see moon in the daylight up top!

So many wildflowers in the fields surrounding the pond! Many areas with planks that go over wet spots, a well-maintained trail. When we're back in the area we'll definitely do it again!

Perfect hike for beginners. Gives a challenge at the beginning, great view at the top and easy paved road on the way down. I would have preferred a wooded path the entire way but this hike was enjoyable. We passed many of all ages, 3 years to 70s. Some of the younger kids were complaining but our 8 year olds did great. The path was hard packed and steps were available in some areas.

Doing this trail again today and though wet as it’s been raining, I’m not concerned. Seems like every time we go it rains, haha! Good amount of parking at the trail head.

*As an aside, I hike with my 4 large dogs - this app says dogs have to be leashed but that isn’t true. The trail is a part of the Long Trail which allows off leash dogs except at crowded summits and when there is alpine vegetation. This app is overall not especially accurate regarding dog use and I suggest doing additional research before going out to any trail if you don’t wish to use a leash (I literally can’t with 4 dogs, smallest of which is 60lbs). That being said, this trail has a lot of little stream crossings which is great for them.

one of the high peaks in VT, she is magnificent

This is nice trail, but I warn you not to try to follow the loop to the right. The trail is poorly marked and there are many intersecting trails making it impossible to continue the loop. I went back and forth on several trails trying to get back on the loop shown in the alltrails map. I finally gave up and turned back. Luckily the app allowed me to track all my various attempts and get back to where the trail split.

Very nice day hike — varied views along the way, peaceful place.

Considering I’m 63, have two hip replacements, a knee replacement, and most of my back is fused, I’m darn impressed with myself for doing this one. So worth the sweat for views, on the way up and down, and at the summit. Very safe and well maintained trail.

Quick and easy. I liked the walk through the field before getting to the forest. Not as good of a view as I had hoped for but still beautiful.

I would do this trail again, definitely a challenge and so beautiful, took the fire tower trail up and the ridge trail down, the hike up was exhausting but doable and the way down was really nice, steep at times but relaxing environment

Great trail! Was very humid Friday which added some difficulty just in terms of comfort but the trail was great. Took the short, steep trail to the fire tower which was basically a steady incline up to the first outlook which had great views. The rest of the way to the fire tower involved a higher incline with a few places of hands and knees climbing. The fire tower offered amazing views high enough for significant temperature drops and wind but was beautiful. Took the ridge trail back which was wooded throughout. Balancing rock was neat to see.

Hiked this trail again with friends. It’s a fun hike with several options to take side trails!!!

did on a 90 degree day, shade most of the way. easy going, fire tower at the top offers great views.
