Good for solo hike

Nice hiking trail, the first half is a bit tough, but gets easier afterworlds. If you're looking to hike in forest between trees, pick another one. This is open high elevation space with nice views overseeing SF, the beach and marin county.

Beautiful hike, highly recommend making the short hike to see the Nike Missile Launch site. It’s the only one in the US still open to the public. Open Saturdays 12-4pm

Love this trail. It’s beautiful, mostly covered for rain or sun, dog friendly. Not a lot of parking but otherwise delightful.

Gorgeous and fantastic for pups.

Done this twice. It's a nice hike.

I suggest going all the way to the top! Totally worth it. Would also suggest going on a clear day (if you can find one, haha), as everyday we've gone it's been super foggy!

Great hike! Perfect to enjoy the fall weather and color change. I’m new to the area so thanks to all the previous comments for the tips!

Great workout with beautiful views

Amazing time. Saw the Marin headlands. It’s amazing

This is by far the best trail I’ve had the opportunity to hike. The views are astonishing. Some parts were steep with lose rocks but overall this hike was easy. Not very crowded and very quiet. Will definitely be back several more times.

If you’re going on a holiday or Sunday, i recommend parking downtown on Magnolia. The parking is free and it’s only a short walk to Piedmont and trailhead. Beautiful hike. Some steep parts but doable.

Great hike! Our dogs loved the private beach to play on.

Fantastic hike. Great views. Somewhat strenuous climb up but worth it.

I did this trail but started at alpine lake took the trail counter clockwise, the trail up winds in and out of large beautiful trees and many creek crossings, and waterfalls. nice wooden bridges to keep you from getting wet even during rainy seasons. Once you get to the top, the trail loses its beauty and other hikers disappears going down.
There is a creek crossing just past the lake that you might run into trouble during rains there is no bridge.

Free and plentiful parking. Trail starts at a beach where you can enjoy watching surfers. Heads steadily up and actually away from the coast - follow signs for trail, or if you choose get sidetracked on the smaller trails that run closer to the coast- just know they don’t necessarily connect back to this trail. On clear days you’re rewarded with views and on foggy days with ethereal beauty - can’t go wrong.

One of the best hikes I’ve done in Mt Tam. You will go though many different types of forest and nature. The lake is really beautiful about halfway through.

We took a couple of detours and made it closer to a 12 mike hike in about 4 hours.

Highly recommend.

Beautiful 2hr loop.

Golden gate national recreational park is beautiful. If you’re looking to enjoy the nature though, don’t do this hike. You’re walking along the road almost the entire time if you follow this “trail”. Also, the lighthouse doesn’t even open until 1230, so if you’re looking to make this a part of your hike, you’ll have to go in the afternoon.

Beautiful

Falls were a great finish. Parking was ok...waited ~10 for one to open up but was expected. First/last 1.5 mile of the hike (fireroad) was our least favorite but overall a good Sunday outing.

Great hike, not too many views since the fog was covering the majority of the trail. Make sure to go on a clear day.

Nice quiet hike. It begins with a slow and steady decline through grasses, and meanders into the forest. Know that much of the path is quite narrow, and at times right against steep drop offs. The path can get quite slippery with the dry mud and exposed rock. Other than that, a great woodsy option for a steady hike with some inclines and declines.

This is a pretty trail with mellow elevations and beautiful views. Also a lot of different trail options along the way.

I feel like this trail was pretty moderate. If you aren’t use to hiking up pretty steep inclines, this hike may not be for you. Make sure you don’t miss the Wolf Ridge trail head. Heading up near Hill 88 had me distracted and I never saw it. If you hit the graffiti then head back down the hill and look to your right for the trail head.

Nice trail: strep up for the first half mile & then gently and finally steeply down. Fine for our medium size dog. Nice little beach. Great views!

Did counterclockwise. Highlight is the alpine lake. Pristine and not even a single soul nearby as I hiked this in the evening. I had a constant fear of mountain lion as there is a sign which said "avoid hiking alone". Nevertheless, found lot of people near cataract falls. Moderate hike.

Great trail, long but not too hard for us, we went anti-clockwise.There is not too much water at the fall but the lake is nice to have a meal break. There are several restrooms at picnic area along on the trail. We started at 9 am and completed at 1:30 pm. Dog, Cat, Crocodile friendly, not so much bugs or mosquitoes. Go early and park your car under big tree. I am kidding about the crocodile anyway.

Using this exact route we chose to go East first.

Starting at 9am on a Saturday, we saw only about 12 people in total until about the 6 mile mark.

The trail is beautiful but not in a scenic vista way. You will constantly have shade and a limited view of the path before and behind you as it is well grown bushes and trees as well as numerous turns.

We didn't see much wildlife but the manzanitas are amazing as well as the redwoods here and there.

The lake is a nice serene spot to have a small break. No bugs or mosquitoes.

The path is well marked but bring your map on the app as it did help. Also, it is well maintained but there is a lot of erosion which means you will need to concentrate on your steps for most of the entire hike...so a lot of engagement with the path.

If you do this exact hike, if you are just in average shape, it will be hard. If less than average shape, it will be strenuous. If in good shape it will be a good long exhausting hike.

Easy trail, lots of parking right near the beach.

The trail is mostly fire roads with a short section on stairs. There are several areas that have been rerouted because of closures.

The eastern half coming down from Hill 88 is slightly boring as there aren’t many views and you can’t see the beach. There were several Batteries and other historic things to see along the way.
