Dog Friendly Map

Trails poorly marked, but beautiful area.

nice mix of woods, open areas, good views. Very dog friendly

Not much to look at, but the trail is long and only lightly travelled, at least in autumn.

Big Ring off Race Road is not a hard trail. It's even for the most part and those sections on the "Roads" are easy. Best to keep dogs leashed, as there are lots of critter distractions.

We loved it!

very nice trail

very nice views, but would have loved if it would have been dog-friendly

We did this today nice rolling hills and views of sand dune shrubs

Nice wooded trails with water views in many areas.

Taken this trail many times to an isolated beach. Spectacular.

We hiked the loop around the pond with our 4 and 1 year old kids. Relatively well marked, and lots off short off shoots that you can explore if you have time. Beautiful and quiet beaches along the way, with crystal clear water. Definitely bring your bathing suits, as you'll want to jump in.

Probably the best trail at Nickerson. The pond itself is beautiful and the clear water is reminiscent of a tropical ocean. There are many great spots to take in the view. The trail can be tight at times and the bushes could use a trim in spots. The trail shown on the map goes around the top of Grassy Knob but there is a very short side trail that goes over it, which I would recommend. It's the highest point in the area and has great views. For the most part the trail is empty, you may see a few kayakers on the water. You are also far from roads so this is a great hike for those who love being alone in nature.

Nice, quiet trail in the middle of Nickerson State Park in Brewster, MA. It is well-marked and has lots of great scenery throughout the nearly 3 miles of trail. Several opportunities to jump in the water for a private swim or to have a picnic lunch. Be prepared to walk in some sand, as many places on the trail require traversing a sandy beach. It's late August so we are well into prime growing season and in some places the trail was slightly overgrown, but generally it was extremely well-maintained. A quiet oasis in the middle of busy Cape Cod.

The property mentioned on this page is NOT the Old Briar Patch. It is the East Sandwich Game Farm Property. The eastern portion trails beyond Jabeez Dam culvert and the creek are part of the Town of Sandwich Talbot's Point Conservation Land while the majority of woodlands and meadows belong to Massachusetts Fisheries and Wildlife. A small tree plantation portion to the North is owned by Massachusetts State Forestry. The State Fisheries and Wildlife portion of this property is maintained and used for education programs by the Thornton W. Burgess Society. Dogs are welcome but must be leashed or under voice control and owners must remove their pet's waste. Waste disposal buckets are located at the main trail head off the driveway past the gate. During mid to late April and the first 2-3 weeks in June school children will be on site exploring the forest and marsh areas. In July and August children from the Burgess summer camp are on site as well. The Town of Sandwich-owned Old Briar Patch Property is located between Discovery Hill Road and Gully Lane in East Sandwich and abuts the Burgess Society's Green Briar Jam Kitchen and Nature Center property. This is about 2 miles west of the property mentioned on this page. Trail maps for the Briar Patch property are available from the Burgess Society or Town of Sandwich.

Great way to spend the morning

Would have been a fun walk if it weren't for the horseflies that started attacking about 100 feet in. We gave up and decided to go to the beach instead. Also, dogs are only allowed on the marsh side - not on the beach side - of the loop (during the summer) so there wasn't even a view of the beach, just the marshes and dunes.

Not a good walking trail at all, unless you adore trudging through deep sand and enjoy the stench of stagnant water in the marshes. We went about .7 of a mile in before deciding to scrap this one and walk back. Go down the road a bit to the Old Briar Patch Trail if you want a nice walk. :)

great trail with views of Bass River. trail is a little hard to find, follow dirt road under power lines to the right of the cemetery about 1/4 mile, trailhead is on the left.

This would have been 4*.....but big signs... NO PETS/DOGS! Found only by seeking "dog friendly"

Beautiful views and wildlife . Lots of fish, birds, frogs and turtles. Easy hike but also very enjoyable. Our gps took us the dirt road route which states " not accessible to park" but it is , only attempt with 4x4. Large parking lot

At times lots of family traffic...perfectly safe for lonely rides /walks/ runs .

A good walking trail. It can be very sunny in the summer and extremely (extremely!) windy in the winter. So dress accordingly and always bring a hat or scarf in the off seasons just in case, you can always leave it in the car. Don't forget water! Also the trailhead markers by the road say, Trail 1, 1.5 miles (or similar) they mean it's one and a half miles OUT, not the loop! Beach is a good winter walk and a good place for a few shells but the beach is rocky so footing can be iffy at times.

This is a nice trail in a beautiful spot, but it runs along the road and the constant roar of traffic detracted from an otherwise beautiful scene. We ended up moving down onto the bike path along the canal and it was a bit more enjoyable. The trail is well maintained and has nice, informative signs about the vegetation and history of the area.

pretty sand dunes in looped trail

It should be nice to mount bike here, but be careful bringing small dogs here, people bike here pretty fast!

Great trail to walk with dogs! Great views!

Very flat and long. Much longer than expected. The scenery does not change often but is wonderful. You can also turn on multiple trails along the way in order to have a lighter hike.
