Great short day hike! Would love to return to backpack. Easy but satisfying. Crazy blue water, you forget you’re in Indiana for a brief moment.

Great trail, can’t wait to go back. Trail head was a little elusive at first, I recommend parking in the parking lot instead of right by the trail head.

Backpacked here in the fall. What a great place for an overnighter. Slept right by the water and could hear fish jumping all night. Cannot wait to return.

Indiana continues to surprise me! Great easy hike with lots of little ups and downs and arounds and windy-ness. Felt quick and very pleasant. Definitely 5.1 not 5.8 miles. “Rugged” is a good word to describe, and my boyfriend kept gushing about how great of a mountain biking trail it would have been, & well up-kept.

Well blazed, but it was hard to see the path so we really had to focus on the blazes had to be careful near the rocky parts because it was raining.

did it in 55 minutes hiking 5 years back.

Great trail! Did this in the fall and it was well marked. Took us two hours to complete

This is my favorite quick overnight backpacking trip, it's also great for younger kids. It's 5 miles from the trailhead/parking lot to the spot at the furthest reach of the peninsula. Horses do use this trail so if it's been wet be prepared for some really chopped up soupy areas.

Nice trail. We we’ve been backpacking on this trail twice, once in February and once in August and it was a good experience both times. Park at the Grubb Ridge parking area. From there it’s a fairly easy 1.5-2 hour hike to the shore. There are many ready to go campsites right on the lake. This is a popular camping area and there was quite a bit of trash left behind at some sites. On our February trip we got some rain/slush overnight and the trail gets very muddy quickly.

Got a little off trail following the wrong markers but otherwise good

We did this hike in a cool, windy Saturday with our dog. Lots of traffic on the trail, including dogs and horses. Well-marked and maintained, and the campground at the lake looked nice and secluded. We are 56 and 48, and in very average shape, but completed this 9-10 mile hike in about 4.5 hours with nothing more than some sore feet! Recommended but get there early as both parking areas fill up fast and overflow quickly.

Nice trail. We enjoyed the time out in the woods. Quite a few other hikers. Needed to watch our step as the trail was shared with horses.

Hiking 10/19/18 - Beautiful area! The trail was marked great in most places but missing several important places so that we were wandering around looking for a direction- losing time and adding 3 miles to the hike. Finished in 9 hours with moderate speed, stopped once for lunch for around 45 minutes. The alltrails app was a life saver! No ticks, very few bugs/spiders as mentioned in other posts.

An easy but scenic hike. Some nice looking small creeks running along the parts of the path makes for some great nature pics.

Lack of parking. We parked on gravel road with other cars and got an $80 ticket. Watch out for horse poop

Reached the trailhead around 10:30 on a Saturday and the lot was full. We had to park at the fire tower which added an extra 3 miles onto our hike there, and 2 on the way back because we took the road. The trail is shared with bikers and horses but we only saw horses. All were very friendly and we all shared the trails very nicely. The hike was mostly flat with a few small inclines. The trail is marked pretty well but it would be nice if there were more signs. The path was usually beat down pretty well but having never been, it’s be nice to have reassurance with signs. The turnaround point at the beach is beautiful and totally worth the hike. There are 4 campsites right along the water that I hope to stay at next time!!! The trail wasn’t too busy in October but there were a few groups and some solo hikers/backpackers. Not to secluded/not too busy. It was a great day!

Great morning hike with the kids. Plus the playground at the end is an added bonus!

beautiful scenery. Lots of colorful fungi. rocks and lots of acorns made it rugged. The best marked trail.

love the trails. rugged due to lots of rocks and twice turns. beautiful scenery.

Trails are horribly marked.. we spent hours going in circles trying to figure out which way to go..

Relatively new to hiking and now working to expose my kids who are 6 and 4 to the activity, this trail starts off with a light warm up and then gradually gets a bit more challenging (specifically for my kids). The creek bed and water was a great break as we spent a lot of time resting and having fun. Nice trail.

Trail is very well laid out. No special scenic areas, just a nice walk through old growth forest.

This trailhead is a joke. It's an access point for raised power lines and the trail is just a path beaten through the prairie grass beneath them. No tree coverage.

Also, the trailhead marker clearly rates this trail as a moderate to difficult.

one of the most horribly blazed trail I have ever been on, blazing is good through the first half right up to about 300yds from the road then you have to walk out of the woods and find the horse R2R trail to take you back up, no blazes, then at the top of the BIG hill where the trail splits, do not follow the the red/white trail blaze it will walk you 3/4 of a mile out of your way to a horse trail, instead stay on the R2R trail at the split and you should be fine. I ended up walking 9 miles to a 6 mile campsite. I was there 9/29 and little water on late trail get your water early.

A nice walk through the woods. I was caught off guard by an incoming cold front and the temp dropped nearly 20 degrees when I was halfway in. I had decided to shed some weight before heading out and not pack my down. That was a huge mistake that I won't make again.
