DMV hikes Map

I hiked the outer loop counterclockwise yesterday, 11/7. It was very muddy at the start because of the recent rain but the rest of the trail wasn't bad. Overall it was a nice hike right in the city and I very much enjoyed it. Will got back and complete the little but the inner trail that I didn't get to.

I went after work on a weekday around 3pm and it was mostly empty save for some trail runners here and there. I mostly walked alone the entire time.

Roosevelt. Outdoors. Perfection near the city. Also saw a crew of corgis as we entered the island : ).

got lost again, hiking in the dark

One of the best places I’ve been for hiking. Beautiful views the entire hike. I would rate moderate trails. Some had fallen trees & rocky outcropping to pass but made it that much more enjoyable. Definitely recommend.

Fun trail between Key Bridge and Chain Bridge. It is overgrown and as you approach Chain Bridge it is very poorly marked. Does remind me of the Billy Goat Trail at times. Lots of rocks and creeks to cross. Beautiful views. We walked back to Key Bridge on the tow path.

a nice trail out of the way of the city. very flat and a pretty simple, if ultimately peaceful walk. a little hard to get to without a car... walk about 10 minutes from the Rosslyn metro station

a lovely walk, enjoy lotuses but come early if during the summer: you need a morning sun to light up those flowers!

A trail oasis in the middle of the city.

Short hike that has a little challenge close to the city. With all the heavy rains we’ve had recently the trail is a little washed out in some places right on the river, but still passable. There are many trees down across the trail also but again passable with little effort. Nice Saturday morning we only saw one other hiker.

Traffic noise is a real problem on the perimeter trail.

Very beautiful musuem and trail . This trail is not well marked - it is located behind a horse farm on the underground railroad museum property. There is a small sign with a hiking man. I Took my daughter (8years old) and our dog. Not too difficult. Beautiful Creek and spring. Some spots are a little over grown- so be careful of postion ivy . Overall pleasant.

The trail is not maintained, overgrown vegetation in most of the trail areas where you can barely walk through it. The trail ends short about 3 miles due to fallen tree and now way to get to the other side unless you kayak through the waters. At the end I returned to my vehicle door crow barred at the top/failed attempt to break in my vehicle in the main parking lot. A lot of runners, kayaking, bikers. Seemed safe, just never know

Great location to start/end a long run. Started here and then ran across Teddy Roosevelt bridge and into Georgetown. Came back and finished with another lap around Teddy Roosevelt island. This is one of my favorite monuments.

easy. not much to see. good for exercise.

Great trail but a little too short for my liking. Overall great experience!

It’s a lovely trail, very easy and close to dc. Excellent for weekend mornings, but get there early because parking is limited.

It's good. A nice walk. Not challenging. Marked well in most places.

Great way to leave the city for a few moments. Great tribute to Teddy.

This trail really should be an out and back instead of what is being shown on this website. I'd recommend picking up a trail map at the visitor center before getting started as there are various points on the trail that are marked that have little blurbs about them on the map.

The trail is very nicely maintained and for the most part well marked if you do the out and back. I wouldn't recommend trying to follow the trail map on this site. It will take you into a field where there isn't really a marked path.

The trail is not well marked.

has some nice swamp areas and birding but the traffic noise is a bit of a distraction

Loved it, only a short walk before the rain but I will be back

Fantastic views, a must run when in DC!

This is my favorite place in the world! Of course lotus season is stunning, but the vast differences in the park each season are truly spectacular. The fall leaves across the boardwalk, the spring greenery, the late summer blossoms and the snowy paths are all worth a visit. This is definitely more of a walk than a hike, so don’t be fooled by that. Bring the whole family, take a stroll and bring a picnic! If you’re quiet, you can spot deer, frogs, fish, turtles, and heron!

Nice oasis in the city with actual trails to run. Wasn’t too busy for a weekday evening.

Really great and less frequently traveled trail. Going over the bridge gives you a great view of the Potomac and there is a statute of Teddy Roosevelt on the island. Very easy hike, gets muddy after rain however. You can go swimming at certain points but take caution; it's swim at your own risk.

It’s been a year since my last trip here. I brought my puppy for a nice hike and wasn’t disappointed. There is plenty of shade and places to sit for water breaks; it is kept almost completely trash free; and it’s secluded enough that, if you don’t want to run into people, you don’t have to. I can see how the parking could run out, but there is another parking area near the pier that has plenty of space.
