Not the most scenic hike, but definitely a nice short hike.

HikingGreat!

TLDR: Great trail. Great views. Hard work for me as an unfit overweight guy but very doable so don’t be afraid. Loved the trail. I’m 300lb, unfit, and scared of heights but I managed to put one foot in front of the other all the way up and back ok. Sure, it was a workout, but that’s part of the fun! Beautiful trail, with some narrow paths that I didn’t love given my fear of heights, and yes there is a good 0.2mi uphill at the end that is tough, but very doable and the views make the whole thing MORE than worth it. Loved the trail and I’d do it again in a heartbeat. I wanted to leave this review so that other people (like myself, given my fitness) who may be put off by some of the reviews understand that it’s very doable.

HikingGreat!

Long drive but short trail to incredible views of Lake Jocassee and the mountains. This is one of our favorite view points in SC. We went up Horsepasture Rd (combined with visit to Virginia Hawkins Falls) which is gravel and slow going. 3.4 miles on the road to the falls trail, then another 6 miles on the road to Jumping Off Rock overlook. We had a truck and mostly saw other trucks and SUVs. Wasn’t terribly busy when we went mid-week but imagine it is busier in summer. Road is narrow in many spots so you may have to back up or find a wider pull off spot when encountering other vehicles.

Went on a Monday around 11 am and had the trail to ourselves. Strenuous parts are final ascent to knob and some returning sections. About halfway along the route, the trail narrows with somewhat steep drop offs. Widens back up for a bit but then narrows again for last half mile with a pretty steep drop off. Gorgeous views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. (You can see Table Rock.) Great rock for resting and having lunch. When the leaves aren’t on the trees, you have nice views of the mountains along parts of the trail.

Nice trail with moderate inclines. Saw a few nice patches of blooming Oconee Bells but most have already flowered. Came mid afternoon on a Saturday and it wasn’t crowded.

Well kept up, lots of roots so watch your footing. Start to finish it took about 45 minutes slow moving with a lot of picture taking. Late March and overcast, but some bells were out and beautiful! There’s a lot of informative plaques and places to stop and take in the beauty. The Oconee Bells will be found near streams and on rocks.

I did this trail solo, and I’m glad I didn’t drag my kids along. It was a nice hike with varied scenery (a lot of dead trees and one creek crossing) but no real wow moment. Maybe I’m out of shape, but the uphills got my heart rate way up! Note: Parking lot was full on a Monday morning. I used the overflow just up the road.

I liked the fact that the trail was full of roots and rocks. Made each step interesting. This was only my second hike and I found it easy.

Nice trail. 4.2mi round trip. Very clean trail. Very few rocks. Got there today before 10. Lot at trail head has maybe 15 spaces, 3 were open, and overflow is past this a short distance. Would agree with moderate trail overall, harder at end. We had the rock lookout to ourselves. Passed about seven people total on the way down. Beautiful views that will be obscured with Spring growth very shortly.

Great trail. We started from campground, so our mileage is a little higher than from trail head. Some parts of trail very narrow, but very passable. EXCELLENT view from the knob.

A nice 4.2 mile RT hike. LOTS of Trillium beside the trail. View through the bare trees is just beginning to fade as spring foliage is making its appearance. The view from the small rock overlook is still nice. We had the trail to ourselves until about 10 am; after that the number of hikers steadily grew. (Note: Parking spaces were gone at 9am)
