Hiking up to the peak is beautiful, but the sawtooth from south trailhead to the peak has a lot of direct sunshine and it can get very hot. The trade off is a magnificent westward view.

Great trail for the pups. Enough shade and they enjoyed the break in the water about half way in. Clean trail, not crowded on a Friday and perfect hiking weather. We will be back!

I've only hiked this trail once and it is a really cool trail, especially 12 minutes away from my house in the city, but the main drawback for me is all the bikes. It's a very popular MTB trail and I had to pause pretty much every other minute to let a bike go by. A few bikes hurtled toward me and expected me to lunge out of the way. Overall it was hard to settle into the hike itself.

It was my first time hiking in Colorado, great place to start. Really fun and enjoyed the beautiful views. Was a bit hard for the first time but I bet if you are used to hiking it would be a pleasant hike.

I did this in early Spring and it was a bit windy, but nice!

The hike is okay. The 'castle' ruins are really neat!

Attempted this hike today and saw 2 Rattlesnakes on the trail within the first .5 miles. I was alone and decided not to risk it but will re-attempt in cooler temps with a buddy. Trail looks very nice but minimal shade.

Nice trail with a variety of terrain. This trail may be considered hard for those who do not hike frequently... some narrow, rocky areas with over 1000 ft of elevation change. The river was a nice spot to stop for a rest half way through the hike.

Great parking at trail head. Good hike with views.

Great hike. A little crowded on weekends but worth it.

A nice workout with a strong hill qt the end. - beautiful - the river was great for my dog too :)

Fairly easy hike. Nicely shaded.

Solid trail for a decent

cougar was sighted at base of grizzly drive after an evening hike. other than that trails are in great shape and the creek is running.

Great scenic trail. Seems crowded on weekends.

Loved the hike there. Got to the trailhead at 5:45 PM for a sunset hike and finished the hike at 8:20.. about 2.5 hours of hiking and gaping at how beautiful Golden/Colorado is at the golden hour and at sundown.. the trailhead is wayyyy less trafficked at the time we went. Had my dog on a leash all the time because of the rattlesnakes but seemed to be ok!

This review really goes for all of the trails that start at Deer Creek Canyon. I'll echo someone else who said this is a good late start trail, it's my go-to "hangover hike" ;) There are lots of options if you get going and decide you don't have it today or if you want to add on some extra distance. Today I did Plymouth Creek to Plymouth Mountain to the Homesteader trail and I had lots of shade and solitude on PM and Homesteader. I think I was the only person on Homesteader actually, which is pretty bonkers for a trail this close Denver on a Saturday!

PM and Meadowlark both offer great views of the red rocks range and PM has a stunning view of the city framed with trees. It's also a very moderate trail so it's great for dogs and visitors.

I ended up hiking to the top of Bergen Peak. Definitely worth it to do that. It’s a long hike, but I wouldn’t characterize it as “Hard.” It’s a long moderate. Like many trails in Evergreen, alternations between rocky-narrow paths, forest paths, pretty summits, scenic views, aspens, and lovely wildflowers, especially by the meadows. But I was a bit bummed that I heard the cars on the highway almost the whole time. I tuned it out, and a few times amidst the aspens it was truly quiet. But that’s why I give four stars. Sometimes some mountain bikers come barreling down, and you’ve really got to have your wits about you. But otherwise, the views, the thick smell of pine all along the way, and the serenity of the hike, even on a Saturday morning, is why I live out here :)

Great hike, nice views. Lots of sun, only a few areas that were shaded, so don’t forget a hat and some sunscreen.

Good hike. Would like to crest the peak next time

3.8 miles 1950 ft elevation. Awesome hike for how short it is and close to Denver, we did it in the evening for sunset and there was a show going on at Red Rocks below. Some sections are pretty steep and sandy, trekking poles recommended, definitely wear decent shoes. Final scramble to the top is lots of fun.

Watch for rattlesnakes. Not small dog friendly

Challenging in some areas for novice hikers but overall a great place to hike!

Great hike!

great hike, not many people

Decent 4 mile hike. Trail runners and bicyclists were frequently wizzing by, so just something to be mindful of especially if you bring your dog. Mostly shaded but there are a couple places at top to stop and catch a scenic view.

Close to Golden, so quite busy. Close to the road leading to Lookout Mountain. So nowhere you really can’t hear the road. The views are nice though. Does get hot. Many mountain bikers, so stay alert.
