December Trip Map

Great easy trail. make sure to find the hidden trail across the creak about halfway back, this will take you up a steep climb to an archway in the rock, and a great spot to relax for awhile. The views are great.

Nice easy hike.

Great cool down after Bear Mountain hike. Be a good walk if it was really warm because the trail is situated in the trees. Had to piggyback my husband out at this point. Enjoy!

Hiked on 12/5/18 - It's pretty easy, only a 620' elevation gain (Source: Flagstaff Trails Map) from the parking lot to the top of the loop (where the Mt.Elden trail T's off) so I hike the Loop clockwise, then counterclockwise.
I've now hiked the Double Loop 68 times, Humphreys Peak 4 times, Mt Elden 85 times, O'Leary Peak 51 times, Bill Williams Mt 5 times, Kendrick Peak 7 times, Lockett Meadows-Inner Basin trail hikes 5 times, Sandy Seep to Heart Trail to Mt Elden and back 2 times. Also a bunch of Caves Crater hikes.
I never really hiked much before I moved to Flagstaff (August of 2013) I spend @4 months out of every year in the Altered

Beautiful views at top.

We loved this short and mostly easy Trail back into a gorgeous Canyon. We climbed up at the end of the trail for a gorgeous look back down the canyon.

Fantastic views for such a short hike. Recommend for a gentle stroll, kid friendly, mountain vistas.

A very nice short 1-1.5 hour hikes. Trails can be confusing so pay attention to where it is most trafficked. Rocks are steep and I recommend at the intersection going right instead of left. That will save you. Rocks are slippery.

Great views!

Great trail and a lot of potential to go even longer with other connecting trails. So it could be a short hike to a few hour one depending on what you want to do.

Great trail. Some fun spots with rocks to climb as well.

Well worth stopping! Very enjoyable and different than the big peaks everyone comes for.

Well maintained, well marked trail that's perfect for a quick hike after work or before breakfast on the weekends. There are a lot of cool trees and rocks along the trail so it'd be a fun hike for families.

Quick easy walk with beautiful scenery...

Nice and easy trail. Great for all levels and a great warm-up trail before a harder hike. Amazing views going out and coming back. If you can, make sure to climb the unmaintained trail at the end to get some amazing pictures over the tree line.

Great little hike with my kiddos ! A couple hours is plenty to enjoy. I recommend.

We’re on a roadtrip from Arkansas to Grand Canyon & this was a perfect spot to stop & get some exercise.

Great trail.. took our time and enjoyed the views. Had a few nice climbs too! Took the trail right to left and it was easier than the other way.

Easy and beautiful

Great trail running trail

There's some gems in this canyon, but they're off the beaten path.

I found the trail more difficult than I expected, but that may be because the trail is at nearly 11,000 ft. The trail is very well maintained and the views spectacular. Seeing the oldest living things on Earth , the Bristlecone pines, are awe inspiring. The trail is really about 4.3 miles but I forgot to start recording at the beginning of the trail.

Easy hike, great views

My wife and hiked this trail and found it to be mostly easy with some rocky parts along the trail. I climbed about 2/3rds of the way up the mountain beyond the end of the maintained trail and captured some great shots back down the canyon.

loved it! 1st mile is easy! once the trail isnt maintained the views are even better if you can climb!
