If you follow the trail west and up over the mountain near the mill ruins there are nice pools and waterfalls also good fishing for small Rainbow trout.

What little we were able to hike was beautiful. There was a snow storm while we were on the trail so we went about halfway. Even with snow covering the ground you could still follow the trail pretty easily. I’ll definitely be back in the spring!

Amazing views into the canyon and across the desert valley. Fantastic scenic drive coming from Furnace Creek Death Valley. Unfortunately we saw no fighter jets.

I loved this hike because it was not crowded! We saw maybe 2 people during the very busy week after Christmas. The colors of the rocks change with the sunlight and shadows and I realized that the multi colored rocks are not isolated to the artist palette area! It was very windy at the top which made it challenging, yet all the more surreal. Definitely a hike that can make you feel small in the world!!

Fun short hike, there’s a cool down climb at the bottom

Hiked in April 2018. The sand dunes are another must see in DVNP. You feel like you are in another world. Walking in sand can be a challenge and the wind was fierce along the way. We were covered from head to toe with a layer of sand by the end of the hike. Bandanas and sunglasses were a must.

I was going to give this a 3-star review as there wasn’t much to see in the 2-mile hike in other than unspectacular canyon walls. The isolation, as mentioned by others, is nice but not a game changer in it of itself. What is a game changer is the view at the end overlooking Artist’s Drive. There’s a hiker-created trail past the official trail that goes another several hundred feet up the mountain. “That” view is spectacular. If you stop at the end of the trail marked on this map, you’ve probably did yourself a disservice.

Nice and easy hike. You have to cross the creek using a log, which I thought was pretty cool. However, it’s not the prettiest hike to go on in December.

Climb sand dunes is always fun. Easy access, and be careful with sun even in winter.

5 stars for a sunset view! After a long day of hiking this was a nice end of the day stroll

Great view! Your knees can get a little shaky when you have a fear of heights, but the view will make you forget the fear!

cool views. i didn't even go on the trail. i just parked at the viewpoint got out, took a few pics and took off afterwards because the temperature dropped down to like 40 degrees ( this was on the 12th and I wasnt dressed for that chilly, windy weather...the rest of the day was perfect, warm prob mid 70s). so overall, it was cool, I wish I had ventured out on the trail with the appropriate attire

spent the morning on the dunes for the sunrise a couple weeks ago and ended up walking around aimlessly for longer and farther than I intended. got some cool pics while heading out to one of the bigger dunes in the distance. dunes look cool even when viewing from a distance

Loved it. Surrounded by pines, some great views, nice rest area at top. The pup loved it too!

Gorgeous trail! This was a great escape from the heat in early May.

Nice in and out hike. We started this hike early and enjoyed the view of the sunrise from the peak at the end of the trail. The hike started off in a wash at the end of a dirt road. Transitioned to a slot canyon and ended with a short steeper uphill gravel stretch. As the name implies we did not run across any other hikers along the way.
.

Its a nice place was there during sunset and had a great time.

Nice easy ohv drive

We spent 5 days in Feb of 2003 hiking a variety trails in Death Valley. We camped in our RV's. You can see all of the short hikes we did during the week by clicking on my member name Nancy Harvey. Weather was perfect for hiking and it even snowed one night!!!

Beautiful! Go at sunrise if possible.

This is absolutely breath taking. Don’t go at the hottest point of the day or you’ll burn out quickly, it’s a lot harder to walk in the sand than it looks. Keep going past where all of the people are and it will quickly turn silent with almost no footprints. This quickly becomes otherworldly.

Fun hike and great photo opportunities especially during sunset! Difficulty varies depending on how steep the dunes are. Saw a few folks bring a sled or snowboard to go down the dunes. Looked like they had a blast riding down the dunes

A great view that is definitely worth the drive up here. You can chose how far you want to hike and in what direction, or if you're feeling lazy, you don't need to hike anywhere at all and just enjoy the view from the parking lot. Either way, this is a great spot to start your visit of Death Valley if you are coming from the Death Valley Junction. Also, unlike the valley floor, the temperatures are almost bearable up here.

This trail was awesome! Easy hike, mostly uphill. There are a few views that poke through the trees that are really cool. I saw deer and surprisingly 4 cows at the summit. Definitely would do it again!

I am all about interesting rock formations and the rocks are definitely neat, but I imagine this trail is far more interesting to climbers and if viewed from the bottom (much like waterfalls that still flow -- always more impressive from below!). I may have to go back and attempt viewing from below or after some serious rains to see if I get lucky like one other reviewer.

And I must say, it is rather interesting to imagine the life and water that once flowed through this valley.

Bring a pair of shades and a bandana or something to cover up your head and face in case you’re caught in a sand storm while in sand dunes. Otherwise you’ll be finding sand for weeks not only in all your clothing but parts of your body that you would never suspect could hold any sand

cute little place tucked in the canyon. could use better signing at the road but overall a great day trip

Amazing trail with awesome views. There was a nice breeze and a lot of shade. Make sure you make it to the top, it’s an easy two miles.

Like some said, not a lot of shade. We only crossed one creek (still no bridge but we climbed a log), but there were some washes that may have water after the snow melts. (went in early June).

Found what looked like trail that followed along the river, but it quickly became overgrown and impassable. Would have been a nicer trail if we were closer to the water.

The trail continues on and there's no clear marker for the end of the Bull Run trail portion.

Otherwise extremely pretty trail, definitely want to hike when its cooler.
