Started this trail at 5pm. Took about 2 hours to finish including hiking up to Red Cathedral and stops for pictures. Would recommend going in the evening
Great fun exploring the side canyons. we went straight up to number 3, and then explored the others on our way back. slot canyons were shady and cooler, quite a few "scrambles" and some climbs. we will do this one again!
Awesome hike!! It is a gradual incline up to the cathedral. At about the 1 mile mark you will have the best view of the cathedral. When you keep going you are too close, however keep going!! When you get to the cathedral you can scramble up either side and have amazing views back into the valley!!! As with most hikes in Death Valley start early and take tons of water!! It’s epic!!
Not so much a hike, but a wander for a bit around some very unique landscape. This was my favorite part of DVNP
Started in Willow Creek and went up to the water fall and then climbed over to Sidewinder and came out that canyon. Sidewinder is a better hike by far. Lots of side slot canyons to explore in sidewinder. @wanderingbrandi
Nice little trail with good views.
Great trail! Moderate, but steep enough to be hard at the end.
With T, quiet and nice
nice scrambling section at the end gives way to view similar to Zabriskie's point
I started with the trail to Dante’s view but had read about the trail nearby. I wasn’t sure I wanted to do a big hike but I decided to anyway. The hike only had a handful of people on it and I had the mountain top (and entire trip back) to myself. The views are unparalleled as you can see miles in any direction. I thoroughly enjoyed this area of Death Valley!
I enjoyed this trail. The trail is mainly compacted dirt and shale. I especially enjoyed the ease of maintaining a good footing for over 90% of the trail. We started at 9:30 AM and 80% of trail was well shaded. The trail is moderately challenging because of long stretches of climbing without switchbacks and some pretty steep climbs. The ease of footing was especially important during the descent. The views of Death Valley, Telescope Peak and the Sierra Nevadas were outstanding.
Delightful but somewhat strenuous hike. It was so nice to leave the 100 degree heat of Furnace Creek and come up into the cool mountain air. I hiked this in the late afternoon and most of the trail was under tree shade with a lovely piney smell. After an initial fairly flat section, a good portion of the trail is straight uphill. After the viewpoint, the trail dips a little but then starts a steep uphill section to the summit. Fortunately there are switchbacks to ease the climb. On the summit there are wonderful 360 degree views: east down into the scorching floor of Death Valley and west to the cool snow capped Sierra. A wonderful finale to any Death Valley trip. The trail is mostly loose chips which can be hard on the feet on the descent. I would recommend poles. The trailhead is accessed by road from Wildrose campsite and the last couple of miles is unpaved. It's a bit rattly, but any car can make it.
View was amazing! Little bugs everywhere, my legs were covered in them 4/5/21.
The dirt road was easy to drive in my car. Interesting stop off. No hiking necessary
Scenic drive.
This was a nice hike. Far less of a crowd than the golden canyons. A few small rock climbs but they were easy both up and down. Great views at the end!
easy trail, very exposed, lots of people, stunning views.
Beautiful! We had a Dodge Ram and had no problem driving this road. We camped the night before on the side of the road near Rhylite in the car. The geological formations are incredible so many different colors and patterns. We went to Claire spring hoping to see Big Horn Sheep but instead saw a chipmunk which was unexpected being that it’s Death Valley. The last mile or two is where the road becomes the most narrow. It is a one way road so you must enter from Nevada side. It took us about 3 hours from start to finish but we definitely stopped a lot along the way to check out the mines and spent a lot of time getting out of the car to take pictures along the way.
A short rugged trail that provides a great elevated view of Death Valley. A few flies and swarms of gnats on my trip.
it was worth it to drive here beautiful be ready to drive in dirt road.
Amazing!!!!
One of my favorite trails - off the beaten path, diverse terrain and just difficult enough.
