The trail is not maintained, overgrown vegetation in most of the trail areas where you can barely walk through it. The trail ends short about 3 miles due to fallen tree and now way to get to the other side unless you kayak through the waters. At the end I returned to my vehicle door crow barred at the top/failed attempt to break in my vehicle in the main parking lot. A lot of runners, kayaking, bikers. Seemed safe, just never know

man we did this hike and got totally turned around! Beware there are two trails! We were hiking for a couple of hours before we ran into a horseman who told us there was no loop and we needed to turn around!

on Bull Run Trail

Great trail normally. Tried to hike it yesterday from Bull Run Park. The boardwalk when you initially start the trail was heavily damaged. You can get around the damaged sections without too much difficultly. The stream crossing beside route 28 was impassable.

Great place

Very pretty and easy. The first part is along the river then you loop around to follow the Bootlegger’s Trail and Madison ‘s Escape to the parking lot. Some uphill walking but nothing strenuous. Beautiful views of the river and I saw a family or deer.

A few slower spots crossing the stream but for the majority you can run without too much technical stuff

if the loop is done counter-clockwise, your journey is going to be more quiet. Just know as you approach the water at Stubblefield Falls the rock scramble is very steep. The Scotts Run Falls were smelly and loaded with trash. There were people drinking beer and some of them looked underage. Lots and lots of people swimming in spite of warning signs not to swim. one girl was naked! Pretty day as was quiet until I got to Scotts Run Falls. Trails were blazed according to the color coded map. An ok afternoon, could be better could be worse.

I loved the little creeks with carefully placed stones to hop across. Also, the paths are spacious. Although I was disappointed by the situation I found at the waterfall. “No swimming, wading, or bathing” is clearly marked in at least two locations; one at the base of the waterfall and another on the trail as you approach the waterfall. They are big and describe the consequences in smaller detail including possible arrest and a $250 fine! The scene was beautiful despite the insistence of a white trash summer (clothes and trash thrown everywhere along with half-naked teens and small children romping through it). I was mildly disgusted as I ventured out for a pleasant hike with hopes of seeing the waterfall here in all of its glory. What I found was a gorgeous backdrop to a bunch of unruly visitors unwilling to keep their clothes on. These are not beaches and should not be treated the same way. Come for the view not the more obvious guilty pleasure of a few that seem to come and go without regard to anyone else.

I enjoyed this trail, and definitely improved my stamina coming up the big incline from the waterfall. The heartbreaking part of this trail is all of the trash that people have left behind. Next time I go, I'll take a trash bag with me to clean up a bit.

Some side trails are harder then others so beware ! But soo beautiful

Unfortunately the people that frequent this location have trashed the place. This trail has so much potential to be amazing and beautiful, but the smell of sewage, trash littering the creek, and young teenagers smoking, drinking, and taking up space at the waterfall is an unfortunate eye sore for those that want to enjoy nature. Luckily, someone called the authorities yesterday, and hopefully that’ll instigate some change. I will definitely go back next time, not for the joy of being there, but to clean up the mess left behind by ungrateful individuals.

Great short hike. On a beautiful summer Sunday morning, it was easy to park at the trailhead at 8:00am. When I returned at 9:30, there was a queue for parking. The hike is mostly flat with a little elevation closer to the river. As others pointed out, it is a shame there is trash left behind from others at the falls. I preferred stubblefield falls overlook to sit down and enjoy food and reading. The ability to move in and out of different trails is a nice option. Definitely recommend for a short and easy hike.

Great trial and easy to add to others! Dogs ARE allowed here and there are a lot of them! People are stupid in letting them off leash because it’s gonna ruin it for the rest of us good dog people. This is also a fun trail run location.

Easy hikes and lots of dogs. This is a busy place so get there early. Some river access for the dogs but be careful of the currents. Ticks are seen in the summer so remember to check you and your pets. I use this location for quick hike when I don’t want to drive far.

Nice quick hike, but difficult to find parking and he waterfall area had a lot of trash.

Beautiful trail through an interesting part of our country, but I didn’t get far before the hoards of mosquitos turned me back. Bring bug spray and cover up.

fantastic hike. well marked. lots of side trail options. the fam and I tromped around for about 5 hours. while there were other hikers on the way, most of the day hikers hike along over to the falls then along the C&O Canal towpath. I've never seen so many old oak trees in one area before. really had a great hike.

Lots of fun with my friend Nicole!

I really enjoyed hiking this trail. You definitely need to watch your step as you cross the run. I look forward to returning soon.

Excellent park to walk around, but there are plenty of bottles and plastics dirtying the place.

This is one of my favorite trails because of all the little mini side trails throughout the loop. Dog friendly, family friendly, and once you get near the water it provides some fantastic views. Every time i go I just sort of pick and choose the trails as I pass them and it makes it seem like you've gone on a new hike each time. The only thing bad I can say about this hike is the area by the waterfall is very dirty and constantly has trash and broken glass. Also a bit smelly.

Wonderful forest walk. Very zen. Beautiful green forest carpet, not a lot of bushes. Terrain is on the easy side but it’s a totally enjoyable walk. Agree with another reviewer that it would be great for trail running. Easy to add additional loops for more distance (such as overlook trail).

love this park. I both hike and mtb here. If you have not been here the trails on other side of parking lot are mtb only single track single direction offering varing degrees of difficulty. although it has a beginner section it is neither easy or flat. Call the park before pYblanning to ride as they do close mtb section if wet.

The blue trail off parking lot is mixed use and a excellent hiking or biking trail, particular if mtb course is closed. All in all my favorite local park for hiking and mtb.

This was a decent hike, but the trail is specifically for Mountain Biking, and you will be reminded of that fact by several of the bikers you encounter along the way. If you're not deterred by confrontation and insist on hiking it anyways, I'd recommend hiking the loop in reverse so you can see oncoming traffic in advance to yield the path to them. I would also recommend bringing a bag to pick up trash as you go to at least do a service to the park in exchange for being in an area where you really aren't supposed to be.

It’s a nice trail but dear lord does it smell like sewage.

Quick morning hike with great views. Easy for everyone. One or two spots are tricky due to down trees, and eroded trail.

best place to walk/run. lots of hills but worth it to work out with your legs . i enjoyed it . i love running there because it’s not one plain ground . this park have a lot of hills and turns and it keep yourself more busy and thinking . sorry, no dogs allowed which really sucks :( love hearing so many noises especially the birds chirping! i highly recommended to go 11/10
