One of our favorites. Never boring and the views are amazing no matter where you are on the hike. Tough scrambles in spots which is why it’s marked hard. Could be a challenging descent for kids less than ~10.

A bit crowded with tourists, but semi-challenging at parts. Beautiful views.

What a fun hike. Definitely difficult but the views were worth the effort. Short, steep, scramble toward the top.

It's definitely longer than .4 miles. Cave is pretty large in some areas and really low in others. The ground is incredibly uneven. Do not attempt without a light source, do not rely on a cell phone. At the very end, there is a tiny opening where you can squeeze through into another small area.

On 11/17/2018 (7am) l hiked to the summit. For being mid-november, it was an awesome weather day! There was very little to no wind at the Summit plus it was t-shirt weather. My guess it was a weather fluke (the mountain weather report had predicted strong winds and 8 degree wind chill factor at The Summit)
My advice is to bring crampons, they will be needed! If not, wear ice hockey protection and tie a pillow to your butt haha! but seriously, the ice in the last couple miles is treacherous. Yaktraxs are okay but I recommend Kahtoola Microspikes. They gave me excellent traction on the ice and also on the occasional bare spots. They cost $52+tax at REI and were worth it! Especially going downhill, where most butthurt occurs haha.

Nice hike, and a pretty decent workout for how short it is. Some pretty views and some fun steep sections.
A bit crowded on a Saturday morning and the parking situation was a mess. $5 fee to park and too confusing to figure out if a National Park covers it based on the signs, so I just paid.

Get there before 8 to have a relaxing hike up. If you get there late you may be sharing the trail with a lot kids, screaming tourists, dogs, and many other inconsiderate people that come with popular hikes. Fun little morning scramble though and the views are well worth it.

It’s an amazing hike. I could have hiked this in five hours flat easy !!!! Unfortunately ran into a bunch of ice pass the tree-line which slowed me up considerably. Bring crampons if you decide to hike this in the winter. I busted my ass a dozen times lol. Bring ample amount of water at least 2.5 liters.
~Things you need ~

1. A backpack

Beautiful hike! Amazing views

This hike is very challenging but well worth it to see the spectacular views! Not meant for shoes that have no grip.

There is one part where it's bad, but it's the only place that it is that bad. Otherwise I was not scrambling.

This trail gets 5 stars because the views along the way and the view at the top is totally worth it - but it is definitely a difficult trail. I would consider it more rock-climbing as there are multiple places where I was crawling on my hands/knees. I took my 60 pound boxer and had to lift him up/down in a couple spots. Even if you're in shape, the elevation changes so quickly it gets hard to breathe - my suggestion is take a couple breaks along on the way up and enjoy the views!

Awesome hike with killer views! I hiked it this past weekend as part of my training plan for Mt. Aconcagua in January. I climbed it with ease with 40lbs pack weight and my altitude training mask setting at 12,000ft. My moving time was just over 4hrs. Will easily shave off 30min with knowledge of the route and better planning.

The trail is not difficult at all. The reviews make it sound much more difficult than it really is, which is probably due to the distance and wind people experienced.

Has a good mix of climbing- that is, forest trails, rock trail, and tundra.

This is not a technical trail. It’s a trek needing only minimal equipment.

Do bring:

1. Micro spikes (at minimum) crampons do nicely. -Throw the yak tracks in the trash.
2. Trekking poles
3. Be ready for heavy wind
4. Helmet is a nice touch if you’re climbing solo
5. Warmer gloves than you expect

I highly suggest climbers unfamiliar with layering to seek advice before attempting. The temperature swing from the saddle to the summit is substantial. During my hike there were 45kt (52mph) winds. I saw a few groups of people who were inappropriately dressed and definitely put themselves at risk for frostbite.

All in all, a great mountain to hike and train on. Will do again soon!

Awesome hike up...views along the way are fantastic. We came in via Yavapai trail head and hiked Slim Shady to Templeton to get to bottom of Cathedral Rock Trail. We didn't do the Templeton loop and just backtracked so round trip it was 11km for the whole trip. Slim Shady and Templeton were easy and very few people.

Fantastic trail. Wife thought because distance was short it would be easy. Be prepared!

We went 2 days ago, and it is definitely a hard trail. Some spots we were using all fours to climb. So worth it at the top. Windy and somewhat cold so bring that extra layer, hat, and gloves to keep warm.

Favorite trail in Sedona! Especially from the Baldwin connection.

This trail is at some places tricky, but at the end, it is breathtaking!!! Hope I can do it again!

Hard but a must see! I lost my sunglasses on the way up, when coming back it was sitting on trail rock piers! Many thanks to hike mates!

A hike with great views and too many people. Its short, but I was rushing and taking too many leaps over people that my old ankle gave out. A lesson in sprained ankle therapy.

A quick hike that is worth the trip!

This trail has it all. Views, elevation, good coverage, rocks, snow & ice. Bring poles and micro spikes. It’s gets very icy and technical after the trail splits at the saddle (11,4000) prior to final ascent to Humphrey’s peak. Not safe without proper gear. Beautiful 360 degree views from the top. Gorgeous sunsets from AZ Snowbowl parking lot of you time it right.

My favorite hike in Sedona! I’ve lived here for over 6 years and Cathedral Rock is my favorite!

Did this hike a few days ago. Beautiful views when you reach the top. Pretty exposed most of the time so try to go earlier or later in the day to avoid the sun directly beating down on you.
