One of my all time favorite places to hike in the Hilltowns!! Trail is very well kept and the scenery is absolutely beautiful!! The arches are visible all year long but are most visible in early spring or fall. Mostly flat with some moderate inclines.

Took the Coxing Trail up to Mel Brooks Mountain, this wasn't all too difficult, mostly a flat walk through the woods. Then off to Gertrude's Nose, this trail was completely snow ridden and involved quite a bit of scrambling. My party returned using the Mel Brooks Ridge trail. The trail was very, very difficult, involved much more scrambling, sliding down ice, albeit, the entire trail was ice and snow. Looking over the towns below at night, beautiful! The plethora of stars on the opposite side, breathtaking! It was fab.

Absolutely stunning. A picture perfect day. Trail is broken in despite several feet of snow. I used my poles and micro spikes and didn’t have any problems slipping/sliding. Can’t wait to go back!

Road to and parking lot are plowed. Trail is nicely packed, fire tower is in good condition and the views were spectacular! Enjoy!

Easy walk to the fire tower and amazing views from the top.

Beautiful hike today in the snow. The waterfall was maybe even more spectacular than the last time I came in the middle of summer. Icicles and snow really added to the beauty. The trail was definitely slick (more packed snow than ice); spikes or poles would be a good choice.

It was great hiking on snowy trails and very beautiful view along the trail and on the top from which you can see high peak regions and snow lakes.

Fairly gradual hike up an wide, dirt road. We went on one of the first warm days of Spring, and the crowds were unbelievable. The tower at the top felt like a party, with probably 50 people crammed onto the top level. This would make a decent hike on a day with less people, but it wouldn’t be phenomenal.

Beautiful breath taking view!

Great snowy views!

This trail is relatively short and easy compared to most other ADK towers. It was worth the hike. Check out my full write up along with pictures and things to look out for.

Hiked this today in the snow and it was a good hike. It gets steep at some spots but not too bad, definitely need micro spikes. Due to the snow, there was no visibility at the top but beautiful snow and ice crystals on the trees and fire tower. Definitely recommend.

Good trail but do you have to take the road a ways

Enjoyable, I'll try it again in the summer for hopefully better scenery.

Definately a great hike! Challenging and rewarding all the same! High Peaks here we come!

Fun! Easy! Really muddy!

As others have stated, getting to the trail was poorly marked and hard to find. No signs for trail starts anywhere from parking lots. However, once you find the trail it’s very well marked. Rock scrambles are difficult for dogs but do-able. Only a few steep parts and they’re on the rock scrambles. The views from Sunset Rock are absolutely beautiful.

Very nice easy hike with three kids 4, 7, and 9. Fire tower steps were iced over so we didn’t venture to the top. Hope the fencing on the steps gets repaired so there aren’t gaping holes on the way up. The trails were easy to see but not well marked.

This is a nice quick local hike that’s nice and easygoing. This was a great winter hike that I enjoyed. There were a lot of animal tracks that we saw while hiking.

This was a lovely hike!

We hiked it on a bizarrely warm day in February with a small chihuahua.

There were difficult moments peppered into what was overall a moderate difficulty level. Pretty icy in the winter and for our warm day there was a ton of mud that got you slipping and sliding. You must be careful on this hike but with some good boots you’re ok. Hang onto the trees! Go topside to avoid the ice patches. Some ice patches are hidden under lots of mud so be careful.!

But again, we were with a chihuahua so it couldn’t be so hard, right?

Waterfall lookout at the top is beautiful. I wish there were picnic tables or something but we found a goood rock to snack upon.

So many stairs. But pretty and doable.

The middle section (after the initial rock scramble ) turns into a gorgeous sloping up and down adventure.

Trailhead from the road says something like “preservation” so be careful not to miss it. Parking lot gets super crowded but people are in and out all day so if you just wait a flash you’ll get a spot. A small bit of walking along the highway to get to the trail.

Crowded at the trailhead but winds up being pretty private because of all the space. A small moment of oh-my-god-cliffs. Just hang on. It’s short-lived.

Would do again any day. So would Puppito.❤️

Trail is almost entirely melted after today’s weather ! It was a beautiful hike .. you don’t need spikes anymore unless the temperatures drop again. Will be going again soon

Beautiful hike to an abandoned hotel and a fire tower worth climbing. It’s definitely uphill but we did it with a chihuahua and he was fine!

I've done Sleeping Beauty multiple times but never in the winter. Went this weekend (2/18) and it was great. Snow on the trail was packed down enough to navigate, definitely needed microspikes and I was also glad I had my poles with me as well.

Trail is in pretty great condition but spikes are a must ! With the warm temperatures there were some very slippery spots !

from what little dog and I hiked it was beautiful. our hike was cut short because as soon as we pulled into the lot a man and his three "off leash" dogs came up to my car barking and hounding us to the point I couldn't get mine out of the car without having to block the dogs from mine! we headed down the trail and his dogs immediately were on our heels and barking at us the entire walk. decided it wasn't worth it and turned around, with no apology from the man who finally caught up with his dogs. protip: If you can't control your off leash dog, then keep them on a leash. It's incredibly rude and ruins other hikers experiences!

Nice hike to the top of Skytop Mountain. The ascent is steady, but moderate, and it provides great views of Mohonk Lake and Mohonk Mountain House from the beginning. There are several gazebos on the way up, which provide nice resting spots to catch your breath and enjoy the view. At the top, there is a stone tower that provides excellent views of the surrounding countryside, including the Walkill River Valley and the Catskills. There are several cliffs very near the trail, so I would not recommend this trail to people with a fear of heights.
