chilly but beautiful day hike.

Did the old trail up and new trail down on Friday 12/07. This past week the weather was amazing so the hike was great. Started hitting light snow about 3,400 feet which increased with elevation.
Was all packed down though some parts were a little icy. I went without spikes or poles which would have been nice but not a necessity yet. The old trail up was definitely a challenge. I made it to the mailbox in 1:50 so I was hauling. The way down on the new trail took about 2:25 as I was taking my time but could definitely be done faster. Very rewarding hike!!

I hiked up lake 22 on 12/5.

Many parts of the trail was icy. It would be helpful to have spikes.we brought our spikes, but we didn't use them. However, it would have been a lot easier to go up and down certain parts had we had spikes on. The snow around the lake is absolutely beautiful. We walked around the lake, and the snow on a trail was packed.

Great hike! It was chilly today and we didn’t bring enough layers but still very fun!

Hiked to lake 22 today knowing that it is a very popular hike we thought a mid week hike would deter a lot of people. Well we were wrong. We arrived just before 9 and there was only 2 other cars in the parking lot. But on the way back down we ran in to everyone. I was a little underwhelmed by the hike after hearing all the hype. There is about 8 inches of snow once you hit the lake but since it has been so nice out for the past few days the snow is iced over and very compact. Did come across a few places that you had to watch your step because of water frozen over on the trail.

This is a nice trail, but very heavily trafficked (at least on weekends)
If it's not foggy, you can have a clear view of the valley somewhere near the lake. A lot of moss, a few waterfalls and river streams to cross, typical PNW landscape.

The lake is nice, was snowy when we went (Dec. 2nd).

Great today! The trail is packed snow from 1/2 way up to the top. Micospikes were needed and used most of the day. Get out there! Four more day of sun!!

Counted 17 streams along this trail. Arrived at the trailhead a few miles past Mailbox Peak at roughly 9am. There were only 7 cars in the lot that can fit 50 vehicles. The trail is nicely maintained

The hike now has snow on the upper half. Bring your mini crampons if you can. Also be prepared for a drastic change in temperature once you reach the top

Hiked Bandera and Mason Lake. Intermittent snow starts at 3000' and is 1-2 ft deep near the summit. Suggest spikes/gators/poles. Took our time through the boulder section since coverage is not great. Grey today but nice winter views

A fairly challenging hike with one of the most beautiful alpine lakes at the top! Did this one a few years back and remember really loving it.

Very challenging hike. There's other more beautiful hikes in the area, but the workout is worth it for this one.

Great hike all around! Bonus was at the top had several birds eating nuts right out of my hand with snow flurries :)

Great views

Solid climb and nice views, but the soundscape is dominated by I-90 nearly the entire way.

This is a great hike. There was Snow in the last .5 miles, but the trail is still easy to follow. There are not too many views before the top, and the Falls always underwhelm me, but Lake Serene is just beautiful, and the tall cliffs that surround it are so magnificent. The sound of snow cascading off the cliffs sound like thunder.
It is a hard hike, but worth the effort. My only reason for the 4 star is because it is a very popular hike.

Night time hiking trying to break mountaineering boots in. Not a good idea I advise everyone not to try but I did it anyways. This is not my only time going up to check the mail. For as close as a fun hike it is it’s wonderful for conditioning! Old trail up and down this time. The new trail down is about the same time as the old if you do some ruining.

Awesome hike. After the first two miles the crowds thinned and the snow increased. Winter wonderland!

Fantastic day hike - the lake was stunning with the sun coming through the peaks of the mountains. Bridal falls is an incredible bonus of this hike...trails were in good condition all the way up, but did get a bit slick towards the top as they turn into mostly rock.

Fantastic view!

Beautiful hike

It was great hiking . It was hard but safe !!!

This one has been on my list and we couldn’t have had a more beautiful day for it (11/18/18). Hiked the new trail up and back down, I don’t think my knees could have taken the old trail from what I hear. Pretty brutal last 1/2 mike until you reach the Peak but no question, worth it all! Gorgeous views of the PNW.

We did this today and it was a cool and crisp day. The trail definitely gets more steep after the falls, but it's worth it to make it to the beautiful lake. Bring layers! Got hot on the way up from the exertion, but the lake area was very cold and windy. There was ice in places with some very slippery rocks near the top, which slowed our pace. I recommend poles for this very rocky trail.

Got to the trailhead at 845 and a ton of parking spots were open on a Sunday. No snow as of yet at the top. View of Rainier is my favorite out of all the hikes along I-90

Mostly dry and no snow or bugs. Great hike, hard on the knees on the way down.

the best views, and no snow! beautiful, well maintained trail, clearly marked. started from the upper trail head, 8 miles round trip. highly recommend, very much worth the work.

Good hike. Can be muddy in areas. Very well maintained trail.
