Excellent trail! Did this Oct 6, 2018 with Overland Bound, wonderful time. Trail in great shape. Other than the first gatekeeper, all obstacles had a bypass, the gatekeeper might of had one as well but I did not notice it. Need 4x4, lift and bigger tires, also skids. As said do not go alone, on weekends there will be others on trail so stay alert. trail can be ran up and back or up and return a different trail. Trails not marked completely so have a map. Edison camp is wonderful camping area.

Beautiful lake. Did an overnight trip with my daughter. Temperature at the lake felt about 10 degrees cooler than on the trail. Probably due to the wind gusts. Ended up camping about a 1/2 mile from the lake. Fishing was great as well.

I hiked this yesterday with my dog. This was our first official hike. I clocked it at 9.2 miles from the parking lot. There isn’t water at the end. The Pa’san trail loops back around into the wuh-ki’o trail. It would have been much easier to start with the wuh-ki’o trail because the Pa’san is all up hill. For a beginner like myself, a quarter of the way in you feel like you’ve hiked 6 miles. Spent all our energy and resources climbing the mountain just to find out the hike back was super easy. There is a beautiful peak at what feels like the top of the mountain. Good hike though! This one is checked off the list.

First visit to site. Trail was beautiful; HOWEVER, it was VERY difficult to follow. It would be helpful to have signs/flags (recent rain washed away some trail prints). We had a large group (15) and we had to return down hill; think we went off trail after the pool area. Definitely disappointed. Hiking boots is highly recommended. This trail is NOT moderate; more on the difficult side.

GOOD LUCK and SAFE HIKING!

Gorgeous!

Great fishing at cliff lake and and an equally rewarding hike to nearby Rock lake

Do not attempt the drive to trail head unless you at least have a high clearance vehicle. And if it rains, you had better have four wheel drive. I drove in my Ford Edge and barely made it. Spun my wheels and scraped car under carriage a few times. But the destination was well worth the worrisome journey. Absolutely beautiful. There really are no mosquitoes at this time of year and no bear activity which really adds to the enjoyment. Very high altitudes though. Take it slow especially if you are a sea level dweller like me!

I will be back, but in a truck!!

BTW I have a tried and true formula for mosquito repellent. Mix vapor rub (menthol) with coconut oil. Three weeks in Fiji with hummingbird size mosquitoes and I didn’t get bitten once!

Beautiful hike. The waterfalls and pools make great spots to just enjoy the moment, cool off, and have a snack. Water is cold but refreshing! We made it more difficult than needed by going the wrong way, but will definitely try it again on the main trail. Flies/bugs were awful and took away from my enjoyment of the scenery. Definitely spray up and take a hat to shoo them away.

This was a great hike. There are a hand full of pretty water falls along the way and lots of spots to swim (water is cold.) The trail isn't that difficult to follow but i would download to trail map from alltrails, I referred to it a few times. It took me 1hr 20 min to get to the end and I was stopping a lot to take pictures. The way back probably took around 40 min. Yes there are little flys that get all up in your business but they don't bite. I wear "hoo-rag" over my face and it allows me to breathe without feeling like I'll inhale a bug. Fun Hike!

Absolutely incredible “hike”. One of my favorites I’ve ever been on. The walk down to the actual lake it a nice, easy walk. Not so much a hike. The real beauty happens when you walk around the lake and along the top of the dam (I’m an engineer so I nerd out over stuff like that). We were the ONLY people out there so that was also great. I would absolutely suggest this hike. The views are stunning the entire time.

Walked this trail many times now, with and without a dog. Beautiful views of the river and wildflowers in spring. Beware of poison oak just off the trail in a few places before the bridge.

We did this trail in Sept 2018. Beautiful views of Shaver from the tower. I did the trail in my ‘94 YJ and my buddy took his 99 TJ. Neither had any problems with the trail besides a couple of scrapes on the skid plates for the stock size Jeep. This was my first time off road and my first trip with my Jeep. I recommend taking a friend and you’ll have a great time.

This hike is along a road that is paved in places but mostly dirt. There are great views into the city of Big Creek. This trail can be extended but we turned around once we reached the main road Huntington. Basically a completely flat hike so it is really good for all skill levels.

very fun off road trail, the dinkey lower green gate route is easier then the tamarack route. only one spot caused problems for my open diffs cause of loose sand but there is a bypass.. I've got a 87 4runner stock on 31s and I scraped pretty bad in some areas. invest in some sliders unless you have about 2' clearance

Gorgeous hike, beautiful lakes. Mosquitos are out of control. It was hard to enjoy anything while being swarmed constantly. First night at stayed at first dinkey lake, with an amazing view of the lake and meadows. We hiked up to higher elevation and stayed at rainbow lake the second night, which was significantly better, mosquito - wise. We were all covered in DEET, and used citronella incense, as well as natural repellant, to no avail. I'd love to come back some day when the mosquito population isn't as crazy. Great trail for beginners and kids, otherwise.

Had a great time hiking this trail. Late Fall, lots of tarantulas...

Very easy and relaxing hike.

I loved this trail. But you don't want to go there alone. Trail is not marked. You just park on the side of the road (near sign that says Bald Mountain Summit) and look for a small path to the top. At the beginning path will be marked with some plastic lines on the bushes and trees. It's very strenuous in the beginning, no warmup. After about a mile you get almost all elevation and trail become easier and more spectacular. Still no marking but you can following stone pyramids other hikers left there. Be careful when going down and try to follow same markings you saw while going up. We ended up doing some back and forth because we lost our way down few times.

Nice day hike. At this temperature (low in the 40’s at Trapper Springs campground) at end of Aug, NO MORE MOSQUITOES :)...and no water in any of the stream beds.
Beautiful destination. Only 2 groups staying at the lake the Friday before Labor Day weekend.
I’m going back with my 13 yr-old and dog for an overnighter before it snows.

The hike was more rocky than I expected. Other than that I enjoyed it the corny is pretty and we saw an Osprey nest. There was an Osprey flying high too. All in all a great time.

Great hike. Very little vertical change on the whole trail. I’d say it’s 6 miles total. Lots of walking on narrow metal grates but beautiful views. The last half of the trail for some reason there are a lot more nats flying around. Idk why. The water is great. Chilly. But super relaxing. Only saw 2 other couples on the trip. Highly recommend. Unless your scared of heights or bad balance.

Absolutely worth going to the top, but there are also lovely swimming pools along the way if you take the left side (West of the creek).
The Alltrails map starts on an unnecessary hill. Park in the trailhead parking then take the road West to cross the creek as it enters Bass Lake.

Nice view. Easy trail.

Amazing views. We did the loop passing by 4 lakes. 15km. Easy hike. Cristal bleue sky, no mugs thanks to the wind. The way to get there was actually also an adventure as we are not used to drive a 4x4 (a must for the last part of the dirt road). We took the Tamarack road following the advice bellow.

Highly recommended not to hard of a hike if you start from the upper road, hidden parking on a dirt trail. Go all the way to the top very slipper rocks, but wear your swim suit at the top there’s 3 holes you can jump into about 6-8ft deep so much fun and so refreshing after hiking the trail. Hike on the trail on the left of the falls.

We took Tamarack road in as the road from Dinkey Creek is closed. We were warned about abundant mosquitos but it wasn’t bad at all. There were some at Dinkey 1, but we stayed at Island lake and had no problems with mosquitos at all. We took 4 kids on their first backpacking trip and it was fantastic!

It is 5.5 miles one way, 11 miles total. Took my 9 year old son and we made it to the lake in 2:40 and out in 2:20. Lots of people.

Actually didn’t get to hike it but wanted to post this in case others are headed down soon. Got to the road leading to the trail (Dinkey Road) and it was closed due to construction. Drove 2 hours and was bummed about that. Perhaps call restaurants/businesses in the area to inquire if the road has opened back up.

love it
