So pretty in the fall! Great view at the top. Great hike for kids (7, 5, 5, 5, 3).

I did today 10-30. Lots of ice at the beginning then snow. It was windy. Very windy. From bottom of notch road by the new Boardwalk on Stowe side I started there so w the up and down and back to my car 4 hours. only one sketchy spot at the very beginning of actual trail. I used poles and my Yaktrax. I always use poles. Some deep snow around the pond area in some spots. Very fun hike today. I saw no one. ONE MAN GATHERS WHAT ANOTHER MAN SPILLS.

Would rate this moderate, but it's a quick climb up to this lake. Very breathtaking, can be done in a hour.

Great hike with dog

Baxter Mountain is a great hike for anybody. I would suggest however wearing micro-spikes as it was dicey in spots. The views, although cloudy were good. I’m not sure most people, at least since the snow has fallen, have gone to the “true summit” as there were no footprints down the col and up the summit. It’s wooded with not much to see, but for the purists, lol.

My honey and I hiked this trail and enjoyed it. Very well maintained trail with a few fun rock scrambles. We will definitely hike it again in spring.

hard just before the top.

A little bit steep but a fun little up-hill rocky walk, I went with my boyfriend around sunset, descent was a little icy due to the rain and sleet that was coming down lightly that day. We had a lot of fun on the walk up to the pond, only took about twenty minutes. We are definitely considering staying at the lean-to on our of our next trips to the lake placid area. A very quick brisk walk up and back.

Gorgeous hike but with snow and freezing weather (oct 18) the trail almost entirely iced over and was extremely slippery. Completed in just under an hour and a half. Would have been much quicker in warmer conditions or with crampons.
The lake is gorgeous and sooo serene.

I loved everything minute of this hike, but I would not rate it is easy. It is a continual uphill walk through the woods, over roots and rocks. I felt like I needed to be looking down the entire time to watch my footing. The trail was a very well marked at the bottom and the top, but the middle section less so and I know I got off the trail at some point. Nevertheless, I loved this trail. I walked up the trail, and took the road back down which was beautiful itself but in a different way.

Great place to run and take a quick dip in the pond. There’s a rope swing on the north peninsula and a pretty easy cut off trail to find it.

what A great little challenge lots of rock scrambling ,the was socked in with clouds we waited a bit and it cleared reward us with a beautiful view.

Nice day hike today up Baxter. Many switchbacks and a relatively easy trail. Good trail to run up or down. Nice views but had some cloud cover and flurries. Foliage just past peak but still nice color!

Easy walk with nice fall colors.

Very family and dog friendly trail. A couple of scrambles but nothing too difficult. Well maintained with great views at and near summit.

Today with the weather; cloudy with mist of rain, felt like walking through a rain forest. Especially with the running down stream of the water. Chilly, but with the trek and hear beating, not bad. At the top, walking"around" the pond was closed. Don't know the season or just today. Still a great trek.

Easy start from the Meacham Campground. First 60 min are an easy walk in the forest. There is a nice shelter to rest. The last 30 min to the summit are pretty difficult and technical. Plan to walk in a small creek with slippery rocks. The view at the top is very nice.

That’s show biz, baby!

Challenging 1 Mile ascent, but it’s very rewarding. Gorgeous views from up there into the Vermont foliage. Took also the Elephant Trail around the Pond, beautiful!

Fantastic hike - don’t be deterred by the moderate classification. Our family had no trouble and their was limited scrambling on an otherwise straightforward and easy hike. All told it was about 1:40:00 to climb, spend time at the peak, and walk down. The vista just before the summit was great. The summit itself was just ok.

Was not prepared for how wet this trail was. More of a scramble than a hike in several places and I'm tall with a long steep. Beautiful though. Took about 2 hours round trip with time to stop at the pond and see the ski hill

Great trail and very easy hiking. It’s on an old rail bed so it’s flat and straight. No special equipment needed. It’s one I would do again. One note: I was there after it had rained the day prior and a part of the trail was impassible due to water; just something to keep in mind if planning a trip here.

Easy, well groomed, well marked wide trail. Enjoyable, relaxing walk through forest, past water, with lookout points along the way.

An easy 1 mile each way hike that I could do with my toddler on my back. Beautiful views of the lake and Adirondacks. The only complaint is that it was extremely crowded, but we were expecting that since we went on a beautiful fall Sunday so no big deal.

SO FUN! Awesome hike for ANYONE! quick, easy, & the pay off is tops in the view department.

It says 3 miles but it feels longer, parking is also quite problematic with the limited number of spaces and the rules about not parking on the road side. But the hike itself is beautiful.

Great hike! The trail is much wider than other trails I’ve been on. Not too steep.
The summit is amazing. There is a giant flat concrete slat at the top that gives amazing views and is a great place to hang out and have lunch with friends.

Well maintained trail with cutouts for views of Mt. Mansfield. Various terrain but plenty of flat forest floor to break up the few rocky climbs. About 2 hours for us 65 year olds. As expected, rocky and steeper at the top.

Machu Picchu stairway is a hoot. Bravo GMC!

Really great trail, nice views of pond. Lots for “stairs” on way up. Can get crowded.
